Was looking for the Korean BBQ dinner feed. Much sadness. :)

Regarding Tim's observation of game development over many years... "OK, we ASSUMED that hardware would advance to the point where the minimum RAM would be 16GB, so we made a game that wasn't 100% playable on 8GB), etc... Something like that? Or, maybe: "We made the game with the hardware on which the game performs best in mind. Now, because GPU manufacturers think 8GB is enough for 1080p, we have no intention of wasting time and money on optimization. We're very sorry (i.e. we don't care, we're already making billions anyway)".

Explain to me this ruling logic of most developers, please! The developer makes a game, puts all the new technologies in it (RT, PT, FG...) and releases it. I, as someone who owns, for example, an RTX 5090 and has a 4K monitor with a refresh rate of over 100 hertz, run that game on maximum settings and get something around 60 hertz per second. It's also funny to ask if those developers own an RTX 5090 to see if their game runs like a tank on an uphill climb. It seems that we are doomed to software solutions to this problem with visual penalties, because the industry is more concerned with how much profit is, not whether the game will run well on as many machines as possible. And that's where we come to 8GB cards that can't physically support that philosophy. Imaginary CEO's thinking: "OK. As developers, we want our game to look spectacular, but on 8GB it's not feasible, and we know how much hardware there is with 8GB. Okay, let's optimize the game for them too (texture manipulation seems to be the biggest problem) - let them have +60Hz at 1080p, with full hardware support except for the latest technologies that negatively affect 8GB." I doubt that, when the action gets going, anyone would notice that the game is visually lacking. The only thing that matters is that it doesn't stutter. It's not all about the GPU manufacturer...
