Glad we got the 'OF'. It was a first time for me as well. As Adam mentioned, the positive spin on the same-sex relationships was refreshing for that time. Having DeeDee's snide narrative was refreshing, too. And I adore Lisa Kudrow, such great casting. Love, sex and the humanity of it all makes for interesting stories.

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. At the time, as I said, public attitudes were very different from LGBTQ acceptance that we have today. In the movie theater where this played, at the end when they showed the gay kiss between Matt and Bill, even though it was totally blocked by the back of Matt's head, there were a lot of snickering men in the audience. And then when DeeDee's voice went on about "Girls, if your man just laughed, he's what we call a 'closet case' because straight men don't spend any time thinking about naked wet men." Well, DeeDee 'got' all those guys who were SO uncomfortable that they had snickered, and the whole theater erupted in loud laughter and left them all blushing in shame. The movie was also noteworthy because it was one of the few films of its time where the gay man was very level-headed and sensible (Bill) and where none of the gay characters died except Tom the Dead Guy who had already passed before the film began. Even after this film, it wasn't until relatively recently that gay films or media focusing on queer people showed them living normal lives and not either dying by violence or disease or being targeted for queer bashing as part of the plot. Heartstopper is the first real noteworthy modern drama series that presented queer lives as normal, and that just came out three years ago. DeeDee is, of course, horrible, but you know at the end she's going to go back to Bill's house and become a changed person, start maturing, and you get the sense that she's figured out enough of herself that she won't be causing so many problems in her own life from then on. No worries on the delays, it makes for an interesting story for the channel! And among the queer community it's not uncommon for the older gays to drop quotes from this film even today. The monologue between Bill and JOhnny Galecki's character is a well-known speech used in acting classes still today. Thanks for the reaction!
