The most unexpected thing for me was the sabotaged execution of Ames. Sounds like you kinda answered your own question about the property LOL so yea they wanted to investigate his properties for clues, which is pretty normal, especially since he was trying to keep them unknown through some corporation in Panama. Anyway, was fun to watch :) Thanks!
