"Nick from The Linux Experiment doesn't want kids because they remind him of Arch Linux. He even divorced his first wife because she wanted to have Arch installed." Modern media reporting in a nutshell :D

Grimoire Weiss

Yeah, I thought so for the video version. I do it on Youtube because there's no drawback, but I don't see the value in taking x% out of your donations for a video format that most people don't seem interested in!

The Linux Experiment

Yeah, that's what I don't really want: I want my life to be dictated by my own needs, and the ones of my very close friends and family. i don't want to have to put anything on hold for an extended period of time, and that would probably mean I would resent my kids at some point or another, so it's probably better I follow my instinct, and don't have any :D

The Linux Experiment

Yeah, we were young, and we both assumed we were clear enough on what we wanted... That's a mistake I won't do twice! As per Arch, i'd rather have a working system that doesn't require me to babysit it, so that's probably never happening :D

The Linux Experiment

I would continue to listen to the audio version even if a video version would be available.

To the topic of video: I don't need it and would like to keep the audio only. I usually listen to the patroncast when walking home and would not watch the video even if I could.

I can confirm people in the US have the same reaction to not having or wanting to have children. Any deviation from the norm disturbs people, with probably a bit of envy that you are able to make decisions they didn't think were "allowed". It's always easier to "go with the flow".

Steve C

I can't fault you for not wanting to have kids (I disagree with you, but that's my thing). What I will fault you though is getting married before discussing that. Technically, it's your ex-wife fault as well. In the end, we all make mistakes. I really hope that you will come around and reconsider your choice... of not using Arch as a daily driver.

Grimoire Weiss

It's clichΓ©, but kids are different when they're yours. Having said that, kids are definitely not for everyone. It's hard, even if they are "perfect," so having a difficult child is a nightmare. Your life is now dictated by their wants and needs.

Brian

First off, based off the personality we see on here, you would make a great dad. That said, there is nothing wrong with choosing not to have kids. It should always be the choice of the couple and person. I would rather people understand they don't want children, than people having children only because they fell they should. I love my kids, they are mostly out of the house at this point, but a few of my friends never had any nor do they wish to. I have never thought anything about it. As far as the Video on Patreon for these podcasts, I don't see any benefit personally. I like the videos you do on Youtube for reviews and weekly news, but for podcasts like this, it doesn't make sense to me.
