thin privilege

been sitting on this one. saw it on twitter and had to reply.

I can certainly sympathize with her position, but as generalization she's completely wrong. The null hypothesis should never be considered a generalized privilege; that's absurd. Being thin might seem like a privilege to someone with an eating disorder, but only in the same way that being sober might feel like a privilege to an alcoholic. So I sympathize with her, but I don't agree with her.

same here it doesn't work plz halp @ Steven Beest #4206

I was 5'10", 330 pounds. LIFE SUCKED. Then I lost 100 pounds and got hella laid. Being thin is a better experience than being fat; calling it a privilege is emphasizing an "external locus of control," which cripples someone's ability to make positive change in their life. I mean, damn, son, it's not being in a shitty situation that spells the end of happiness, it's giving up, you know?

I am almost a 300 pound man (I'm 6 foot even so I don't look that big, but still pretty fat.) And I have NEVER Disagreed more with someone then I do with this chick, I mean Damn she's finding the smallest (This will never actually matter.) Crap to complain about...
