So... The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) passed...

It passed the Senate of the US... the only hope is people calling their representatives to strike the thing down...

It won't make kids safe, it will just be used to censor the internet even further... "Think of the children" is just an excuse.

Asking for verification in adult sites sounds good on paper, but in practice is another thing. People won't risk their anonymity for it. People (Including unsupervised kids) will go to dark, unregulated, extreme adult content platforms just to get 2 minutes of pleasure...

The internet is not a babysitter. If they want age verification it should be at hardware level, and unskippable during configuration. It's safer and it would be 100% parents responsibility if their kids access inappropriate content.

I can just wonder how Patreon will handle this... NSFW artist are already in the darkest corners of the site and restricted af...

I can probably make it into SFW spaces... but... the bill can also be used against anything LGBTQ+ centric. It's pure bullshit at this point. Because this is happening in the place where most of the relevant websites and apps come from, and will fuck up everyone in the world.

I already had to surrender my ID to Patreon, but I get it... I'm a content creator. BUT YOU, as supporters... I hope it only takes your credit card/paypal to verify your age. Because ID checking is complete bs and untrustworthy.

The law still has a ways to go. The house sounds like it will make changes which mean the senate will have to revote on the changes (unless they change it too). It could get flat out stalled with this back and forth. Even if it passes, it will likely go through the courts due to constitutional issues. So it def has a ways to go.

I Feel as though its just a way for the government to know whos seeing or watching what and being able to verify it with an ID.

Typical Big Government at work.
