"Upload fear" (see description)

Edit: It's on the main channel ๐Ÿ˜ฑ https://youtu.be/y2XV7pmvLs0

I've developed a strange "upload fear"... If a video does well (like my last one), the algorithm usually suggests the next upload to a broader audience as well. If that video has a lower audience retention, the upload after that will be suggested less again. I probably should make a lazy video about that...

This is another not-very-lazy video that two years ago would go on the main channel. So I should do that now too... Stop me! ๐Ÿ˜

Also, I have a feeling the majority of my audience does not like fireworks but I could be wrong.

My memories of fireworks! I got a little piece of sparkler cinder in my eye as a kid when I played with one, somehow that didn't do any damage. Also yep, council fireworks were the best. Now I have three cats so don't really like fireworks as much as I used to as they're bothered by them, but we keep them indoors so generally they're okay.

Cool! How do you keep everything organized digitally? So far I only have a file structure with the root folders being different types of files and then organizing subfolders by project names or by dates (when it's unedited photographies and movies). It's not great. I'd much rather get a system where each file can have multiple types of metadata associated with it. Do you have a good system?

Great video, I imagine it's mighty difficult to predict the brightness of a firework when setting the exposure. Brilliantly done and perfectly shot. The artful coordination of your fireworks shows were also spectacular - what a lucky audience.

I digitized that a couple of years ago using an old VHS (just before it broke) and an USB capture device :-)

Nice, I want to buy fireworks now! ๐Ÿ˜ How are you archiving all your footage? Keeping track of footage from 1993, filmed by your dad, that requires a system...

Rasmus

Regarding the upload fear: you create videos that interest you, and then as it turns out, others share your interest (and then your videos). you shouldn't change that because 'number goes up', in my opinion. "Dance like nobody's watching"

I love your dad's video with you silhouetted against the sunset. That'd look right at home in a Boards of Canada style music video. Happy New Year, Posy & fellow fanatics ๐ŸŽ‡

When I grow up, I want to be 60 too.. (I'm not sure if I'm getting that joke myself..)

I meant to add a more positive paragraph to my post! But I accidentally hit Return without Shift. I know that people all over the world will continue to pursue fireworks thrills, and that the laws are just trying to prevent injury (physical and commercial). Iโ€™m more interested in the chemistry and the art aspect. So I guess professional displays on video are more my speed. (P.S. Iโ€™m 60, heh.)

You've just given away your age! Now we all know you're 39.

Yes it's a very controversial topic, you either love or hate it. And it appealed more to child me than it does now. But then, I perhaps became an adult at age 40, so... ๐Ÿ˜‰

When I was a kid we had a few sparklers โ€“ enough fun for me. Once about 35 years ago a veteran friend was too spooked to watch the 4th of July display. In NYC since then, I have grown inured to the big fireworks displays. My cousins in Maine make a huge deal of it every July. It seems to me needless violence. One year I stayed in the house trying to comfort the poor dog. Next summer I wonโ€™t go.

Thank you! Raising the black level is actually quite a good idea because the shot is very boring as an intro ๐Ÿ™‚

...and it could be main channel content! I'm feeling nostalgia.

Very cute! I like it I miss the local council fireworks we used to have when I was a kid. I have a video nerd opinion that should be ignored if disagreed-with: I'm experiencing a tale over time with the quality of the footage, but the starting video from 2010 is too clean it looks out of place. I think the background noise has been filtered out by video compression. Maybe raise the black level of the 2010 content just a smidgin, to make it show its age, so the cut to modern fireworks is more dramatic?
