EARLY ACCESS // foreshortening studies

This month’s challenge for flame members was on drawing extreme angles and foreshortening! It was all about capturing overlapping shapes and understanding how the body and head look from angles that we don't usually draw them in. It was a tough one but lots of fun to do!

It’s time for me to sit down and come up with some new ideas for paintings to create this year! I was thinking of tackling some “oracle deck” inspired themes that represent different stages or turning points in life, which led me to come up with these ideas. PROCESS VIDEO // wave - 01

I decided to put together a process video of the waves paintings I did last week! I use a wide variety of techniques in these, which is why I figured these might be interesting to share. I made a separate video for each one, so the second part is coming up soon!

EARLY ACCESS // anatomy sketches

Back to the drawing board with some anatomy studies! These are a bit inspired by Egon Schiele’s sketches. I just love the colors and contrast he used to convey his subjects. I also discovered Jookpubstock, who has some really great expressive poses that I wanted to try capturing. I included the reference in the post above! I really enjoyed this session ~

EARLY ACCESS // waves

I felt an urge to paint some ridiculously tall waves. I have a lot of dreams about really dramatic waves, so it felt satisfying to paint them for some reason! I also get a ton of those north sea videos on tiktok. I guess the algorithm knows me well! Hope you enjoy these ~

This month we will be drawing people from extreme angles! This will help us to gain a better understanding of the 3-dimensional shapes of the body and head. Use the reference images provided through the links above to create some studies of heads and bodies from extreme angles. Focus on the construction of the overlapping shapes when drawing your studies!

UPDATE // spring is almost here!

I feel like spring is coming early here in the Netherlands. I've already spotted so many buds and flowers, and heard a lot of birds singing! It's been rainy though, so I haven't been able to enjoy it as much. We're getting more sun soon so next month I'll be outside enjoying one of the most beautiful seasons of the year!
