Happy November! This month we will be making portrait studies together. Use one of the reference images provided, or find your own reference, to create a portrait that is based on the photo. Rather than simply copy the image, try giving the study your own unique artistic touch by diverting from the reference image and exaggerating specific aspects of it.

This has been the busiest month of the year for me. There was so much stuff going on! I went to an art event, had friends and family visiting, and of course I started up my Patreon again after a break. I guess that explains why it flew by so fast! (Or should I say: Flu by? Read on for more context on that one.) Next month is a lot calmer, so I'm looking forward to spending more time hanging out on my couch and drawing.
Here's a little review of how October went for me:

I wanted to make some skin studies with this one, and more specifically skin that has a lot of blemishes on it. I’ve had acne since a very young age, and because of it I was put on hormonal birth control when I was just 12. Last year, after almost 25 years of taking birth control pills, I decided I was going to stop taking it because I felt like it had a lot of negative side effects, including for my mental health.
I’m really glad that I quit, but my acne has returned and sometimes ...

It's been a while since I made a painting! I love how the ginkgo leaves turn a beautiful yellow around this time of year, so here's my little ode to that. I'm also trying to find a painting technique that isn't too stressful on my arm. So that means less hard round brush and other brushes that are sensitive to pen pressure. Basically have to paint more as if I am using gouache and layering it on very thickly so that I don't have to press down as much. I'm enjoying it though, feels good to be ...
