Here’s the process video for the gouache studies I posted yesterday! For some reason it didn’t film the process for the last face so it jumps straight to the finishing details, but hopefully that’s not too big of a problem.
I love watching the effect of the paint dry during videos like this - you can see that the color and texture slowly changes. You can speed the video up or slow it ...

Here are some gouache studies I did before new year’s, but didn’t have the time to properly photograph until today! I bought a new tube of ‘opera pink’ winsor & newton gouache and wanted to try it. It blends wonderfully with reds and blues!
Even though I still struggle with this medium, I just love it so much because of the way the colors dry. They turn into softer, more muted versions - the darks get a bit lighter and the lights get a bit darker. I just love how that brings...

Is it really the last day of the year?? This year was honestly a blur and I'm having trouble believing it is almost over! Here's a little overview of how the last month has gone for me:
BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!
This month was so much busier than I had anticipated. A lot of stuff that was supposed to be wrapped up in November ended up getting dragged out well into December, and then came the holidays which are always a bit chaotic. As a result, my creative process w...

Hey lovely patrons! Have you recovered from the holidays yet? It’s time for this month’s tutorial, and it is about drawing masculine faces! I got a lot of requests for this one, and this is something I struggled with for a long time as someone who was more comfortable drawing feminine faces. Hopefully the techniques used in this tutorial will help you out as they did for me!
As always, I’m using the MaCaLabs HB penc...

Grabbed my fineliners and made an inked sketch! Lately I feel like I keep adding too much to my inked drawings and it’s hard to scale back from there, so for this one I tried to use a bit more restraint than I normally would. I like how it turned out, I think it worked to keep that mindset of being more careful with my lines! It’s based on this reference photo.
By the way, I finished re...

Some head studies! I’ve been trying to adjust my workflow a bit in order to maintain the spontaneity of my first sketch. Normally I do a very loose first sketch and then a more detailed skech on top, but for this workflow, I only made one sketch. I tried to make my first sketch a bit cleaner, and then go straight from that to color. I also wanted to try a rendering style that was more about enhancing and supporting the sketch than painting over it. Basically I just want to keep the flowines...

Things have been so busy with the book! So I was craving some comfort drawing. I decided to draw some baby donkeys. How cute are these little guys? I’m considering adding little wings to them haha.

Hey lovely patrons! I’ve been spending the last few weeks working intensively on the upcoming artbook. We’ve been working on the page layouts, which basically means that 3Dtotal sends over a draft of the book, and I put together detailed feedback and adjustments. They modify the draft and I continue giving feedback until I give my approval and it’s ready to go to print!
I finally approved the layou...

I filmed some snippets of my process for drawing the mushroom studies from my sketchbook. It isn’t the full process from beginning to end but just some parts of it. I figured it might be interesting to post nonetheless! Hope you enjoy!

Here’s the process video for my recent mushroom girl sketch! As always, you can speed it up or slow it down using the gear button in the player. If you get an error saying the video doesn’t exist (which unfortunately still happens from time to time), be sure to watch it in your browser instead! I did a few inking sessions in my sketchbook! I’m frustrated with the faces on both of the characters so maybe I’ll paint over them in photoshop. We’ll see! Also filmed the process for some of these so I’ll try to put together a video soon. Hope you enjoy!

Happy December everyone! I finally finished painting a piece that I started working on in March! It went through a lot of iterations and changes over time. I would revisit it every couple of months and then make some changes to the idea until it finally became what it is now. I included some process shots in this post so you can see how it evolved. It’s funny because I can see the influence of the seasons on this process. It started out much more of an early spring mood (which is when I too...

It's the last day of November! I can't believe autumn is almost over. It flew by in a blur! Fortunately I did get some good forest walks and pumpkin spice lattes in to remember it by. Here's a little review of how this month has gone for me:
KICKSTARTER ENDED
The Kickstarter for my new artbook finally closed on November 10th. The support was overwhelming and I was so grateful! It was also a huge relief to be able to close that chapter and focus on other things, si...

Hey everyone! As promised, here is the process video for my Wet Asphalt drawing! I edited it into two parts. Both videos are about an hour long and they are in real time. If you want to speed it up or slow it down, just use the gear button!
For this part of the process, it was mostly about getting the basics down. I basically add the elements layer by layer, and use the gradient tool to get t...

Time for this month’s tutorial: drawing environments in procreate! I’ve done an environments tutorial in the past, but it was focused on my workflow in photoshop. While it is possible to replicate that same workflow in procreate, I tend to take a different approach, mainly because I prefer to work with textured brushes on the iPad since it is so intuitive and responsive!
Because this workflow is ...

My big sister lives in Edmonton, and she’s been seeing some beautiful sunsets there in the last weeks. She sent me some photos and I had to use them as reference for these quick speedpaints. My main focus was capturing that vivid, intense color! She recently sent over some gorgeous sunrise pictures with freshly fallen snow, so I might be tackling those too :) Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey lovely patrons! Just a quick update to let you know that this month’s tutorial is almost ready to be posted! So keep an eye out for it :)

I recently drove home after the rain had stopped and the road was still wet and reflecting the sunset as well as the stoplights. It was such a beautiful sight! I took a photo and made a study of that moment, to practice capturing reflections and also some perspective / buildings. You can see the original ref as well as an early version of the painting. Really enjoyed this one! I’ll put together a process video for it since I recorded the full drawing process, but for now, hope you enjoy thi...

I’ve always been fascinated by Gibson girl artwork, especially the flowiness in the hair. So I decided to try drawing it in my own way, using a brush pen with a bit of a dry brush effect because it’s running out of ink. Here are the results! I filmed most of this process, and I’ll be posting that video in a minute. For now, hope you like these sketchbook explorations!

I finally finished this one! This is one of those paintings that I just loved doing from beginning to end, but I didn’t get to work on it as much as I liked because I was so swamped with other errands and tasks. Today I finally got to sit down and finish it up. Like most of the art I made in the last month, it’s an ode to the autumn and how much joy it brings me! Hope you like it :) I recorded the full process for this one so I’ll try to put together a process video soon!

Here are some stylization studies I just did in procreate! The idea was to take a reference photo as a jumping off point to do two different treatments: one more angular, and one round and soft. I also included the reference image, which is from grafit studio.

Earlier this month, I sat down to create an autumn-themed painting, but I wasn’t happy with where it was going. It just felt too empty to me, and more like a random study than a proper painting. I ended up ditching it and drawing this image instead!
A few days ago, I revisited this study and tried to fix it up so that it felt more like a companion piece to the ghost painting. I’m ...
