Speedpaint of a landscape with baobab trees. I just love how chunky these trees look so I had to try and capture them!

The second process video in watercolor! Again, had to edit out some parts because my head dipped in, but for the most part the full process is on there. I sped it up 2x, and you can adjust the speed to be faster or slower with the gear button.
This one was more painterly than the mushrooms and a bit harder to do, but I really enjoyed gradually layering on the shadows. From this process I learned that the key to painting in watercolor is to know which areas need to stay light, and ...

I filmed the process for two of the watercolor pieces I did: the mushrooms and the forest sketch! Had to edit out some parts because my head dipped in, but for the most part the full process is on there. I sped it up 2x, and you can adjust the speed to be faster or slower with the gear button.
I really enjoyed painting this one, I got into a nice flow of doing the basic gradients first and then adding more detail at the end with a thinner brush! In this sense it was very similar t...

I sat down to try acrylics this week for Brushtober and it was just awful, haha. After two weeks of using watercolor type paints, I found acrylics to be super blobby and difficult to manage. I used to use it all the time in high school and I was struggling with the same stuff I did back then: muddy colors, blobby/cakey layering, etc. I was so frustrated! I made this sketch and went out to buy some medium today to help thin the paint. Hopefully that will give me a bit more control over this me...

I spent this weekend trying out watercolors for week 3 of brushtober! The theme was nature in autumn so of course I had to paint a forest and some mushrooms :) I filmed the full process for these, I'll be editing / rendering out that video this week so you can see how I handle watercolors! I definitely fell in love with this medium and want to create more with it in the future. This week: Acrylics! I'm so scared haha! Wish me luck :)

Here it is guys, the long-awaited procreate tutorial! I filmed it in 4K quality, for those of you who have 4K screens and wanna see the iPad screen in max detail! Just press on the gear button to adjust the quality.
The brushes I used during this video were:
• Razum_inc Pro II shade upd 1 from the RazumINC brushpack.

I saw a photo of this dog breed called a cane corso, and I was really captivated by the fur. Something about the inky dark fur with these glossy highlights made it look like a living drawing! Also, it was really large in size which added to the surreal vibe. So I had to make some studies of them (plus a few dogs that might not be a cane corso but look similar), trying to capture that mysterious quality to them!

My final drawings for week 2 of brushtober! I did the sunset piece first and I really fought with the drawing. I just couldn't make it work. But then when I did the swirly one, it finally 'clicked' for me. I started painting rather than drawing. I think it's because I was more patient with the drying process (also used a blow dryer which was helpful!) and found a brush that really worked for me.
The swirly one is about my chaotic brain when I have time to think and end up ru...

Diving deeper into the ink wash & ecoline for #brushtober! I found a box of ecoline inks from my art school years and discovered that they still work after 15 years, so I used some of them for this drawing!
It’s a self portrait, showing what my hair used to look like before the pandemic hit. I miss having blonde tips, but I’ve decided to wait until the pandemic is over to get my hair dyed again. So for now, this hairstyle is a distant memory which can only be re-lived thro...

Here’s part 2 of the thumbnailing process for my procreate commission! You can find part 1 here. Hope you find it useful! I’m making a procreate tutorial this month, so if you have any questions after watching this, post it below! I’ll see if I can address that topic in the tutorial!
Again, more info about the procreate brushes I like to use here (includes links): https://www.patreon.co...

Here’s a new type of video for you guys! It’s my first time making one of these so I’d love to hear your feedback. Basically I filmed the thumbnailing process of my Procreate commission, and kinda talked through it, explaining more about what I was thinking and aiming for. I think that it’s one of the most honest process videos I’ve made because it shows how much I go back and forth, try random st...

It’s week two of #brushtober so I’m diving into ink wash and ecoline! For me it’s basically a transitional phase between inktober and full-on painting, a way to dip my toes into the painting mindset. I’m trying to approach ink in a more painterly way, creating volumes and blending a bit more than I normally would. The theme for this week is ‘slice of life’, and since I had a beautiful deep yellow ecoline ink, I wanted to make it about the yellow shoes and scarf that I wear when au...

Week one of my #brushtober challenge is complete! Over the weekend I tested out gouache and acrylic, and I’m not gonna lie, it was rough. A part of me regrets taking on this challenge because I have such a long way to go in figuring out how to make this work for me! 😂 But then I remind myself that the reason I decided to do this is to expand my skills. Let’s hope I can figure this out before the end of the month!
To finish this experimental week, I made the first drawing wi...

I started on Brushtober! This week is just to experiment and play around with the paint and paper. I started by playing around with ecoline ink and watercolor, just testing out the paints and seeing how it interacts with two different paper types. It’s been such a long time since I just tried out something new just for the sake of it, and I’m really enjoying it! Next up, I’m going to try out gouache and acrylic. If you guys have any tips for me, let me know! I'm so new to this haha.
2020-10-02 13:09:00 +0000 UTC View PostIt's almost time for the month of drawing challenges! October is one of my favorite months of the year, because I love the autumn and also it's my birthday on the 11th! Bring it on ~ but first I gotta wrap up this month! Here’s a quick review of how September went for me:
FIRST AUTUMN DAYS
Autumn has always been so intensely inspiring to me. Something about the seasons changing, and the beautiful colors, always made me want to capture that in my art. You c...

I've gotten a lot of questions from you guys about whether I'll be doing Inktober, so I wanted to address that in a post! I won't be doing Inktober this time around because I want to try something new. Last year felt a bit like a repeat of the same techniques and approach as the year before, and I didn't feel like I would get the same learning experience out if it by doing the same thing again.
The main thing I really loved from doing Inktober in the past was the challenge of lear...

I posted the WIP of this at the beginning of last month, and a lot of you said that they would like to see this piece finished because it’s so different from stuff I’ve drawn before! I really enjoyed this one, tackling the texture of the snake’s skin was interesting and new for me. I’ll post a little step-by-step on how I did that soon.
This one was inspired by the yellow indigo s...

I’ve always been a huge fan of the art of J.C Leyendecker, especially how he gets a sculpted look to the faces and how he did the skintones. So I did some loose studies, trying to capture a similar sculpted quality. Leyendecker is one of those artists that always inspires me, I just never tire of looking at his beautiful paintings. Hope you like these, and most importantly: have an awesome weekend!

Hey patrons! Thanks everyone who is sticking around for this month or who just joined :)
Here's a new drawing! This was meant to be a speedpaint based on a photo ref I took, but ended up taking way longer because I was struggling to capture the texture and colors of the sidewalk! It's from a photo I took of some magnificent clouds right after the rain. Really enjoying being able to do more environment studies lately!
