Here’s some of the process for the wolf sketches I posted on Monday! This one is sped up, the normal speed version has just been posted as well! Hope you find it enjoyable!

Here’s some of the process for the wolf sketches I posted on Monday! It was filmed outside so the lighting kind of changes a bit throughout the video. This one is normal speed, and I’ll also be posting a sped up version in a minute! Hope you find these useful!

I’ve been diving back into my sketchbook after a long phase of not really using it much! The sketchbook tours and beautiful weather outside inspired me to grab my sketchbook and make some studies. I didn’t even realize how much I’d missed this honestly. Here are some wolf studies, trying to capture their expressions and fierceness. Video with the drawing process is coming up soon!

Can't believe April flew by so fast! Something about this lockdown lifestyle is turning time into a blur. How are you guys doing? Are you still hanging in there? Here's how April went for me:
GETTING OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE
I’ve gotten back to doing animal studies and environments which I’m really enjoying. I haven’t had much space to get out of the comfort z...

I’ve been using the lasso tool more and more often in my process lately, so I wanted to throw together a quick resource so you guys can see how I use it. I used this technique a lot for the process of Ruffle (https://www.patreon.com/posts/process-video-1-35213520) and also for the thumbnails that I created for the volcano and wave piece. I’ll be uploading videos for those as soon as I get the ti...

I know, I know.. So many posts in one day! But in the sketchbook tour I just posted, I mentioned that I have just one full sketchbook left, which I will flip through next month. After that, I’ve only got sketchbooks with a few pages filled here and there, so I need to consider some new ideas for video content!
Help me out, guys - what are you most interested in? With the time I have set aside to film and edit, these are some options for future videos. Let me know what you’d like to ...

Hey guys! Here’s my fourth sketchbook tour, filmed from my very own bedroom! Here’s a photo of the setup:

Just a fair warning, some of the sketches contain nudity so technically not safe for work. It’s nothing extreme, just some nude models / sketches here and there!
I reference a bunch of stuff in the video, which I’ll link here:
- J.A.W Cooper’s work...

For those of you who haven’t seen my second artbook, The Sketchbook of Loish, here is some art from one of the chapters called Departure! Because the book was focused on rough work and my creative process, I wanted to develop a story concept exclusively for the book. This way, I could show how I use sketches and rough developmental work to visualize an idea. I started with the simple idea of a character...

I’ve been getting back into doing quick animal sketches and studies! I’m using the lasso tool more and more in my process, as a way to quickly create shapes and also layer on shading and gradients. I’ll put together a quick resource explaining the process for that later this week, it's really helped me to speed up my painting process. Hope you like these!

[UPDATE] I tweaked her face because something was bugging me about it! Here's the updated version with the new face :) Only got about 1500 followers left to go before I hit 2 million so you guys will be seeing this post go up in the coming week!
Here’s a painting that is kind of odd timing-wise: it’s for when I hit 2 million followers on instagram, which hasn’t happened yet but I hope it will happen soon! Right now I’m 15k below that, but it’s such a huge mile...

Today I filmed the fourth sketchbook tour! Since I'm working from home, I transformed my bedroom into a studio for filming. I'm guessing this will have a positive effect on the audio quality, haha! The video will be posted up early next week! Stay safe everyone. <3

Thanks so much for all your feedback on the volcano piece! I’m feeling so inspired to finish one (or more) of them!
I did some more work on this series where I explore dream-like settings, this one features a wave that stays in place (sort of like those scenes from moana)! Here are three thumbnails. Which one do you guys think works best?

Last week I did a little live demonstration of my drawing process for Playgrounds Online! It was really messy because I wanted to show people how to work fast, so there wasn’t a lot of time for detailing! But later that evening I imported the sketch to my iPad and finished it off in procreate. For me, adding details is a really relaxing process once I’ve chosen my color scheme. After that, it feels like sculpting - I just pick colors and gradually add detail until it feels done. Here’s ...

I’ve been thinking about creating a series where I take memories that I have, or common settings for recurring dreams, and turn them into paintings that have a dream-like feeling. I want them to convey a poetic, weightless vibe but also use them as a jumping off point to practice scenes and settings more. I struggle with making settings feel large and expansive, so that’s something I want to improve at!
Here are some thumbnails I put together, based loosely on reference pics of the ...

Just a post to let you guys know that I'll be doing a live event tomorrow! A lot of stuff has been cancelled lately, which is sad because these events can be so inspiring for the artist community.

I dug through my procreate folder and made a long video with all of the process videos featuring character art! It’s 1 hour 20 mns long in total.
Here are the main steps of my creative process, which you can see more or less repeated in each drawing:
1 // ROUGH SKETCH
I like to keep the sketch as simple as possible, to maximize movement and gesture! The less detail, the better, because that allows me to focus on the overall shapes and movement ...

Some procreate doodles! I changed my focus to lineart and simple colors when using the iPad and procreate. If you’ve seen my digital painting process videos, you know that tweaking the colors and using shortcuts like feathered lasso are really essential to my painting process. I find these tools really difficult to use in procreate - the color editing tools don’t quite achieve the effect that I’m looking for and I don’t quite understand how the selection tool works there, so I’m foc...

I wanted to do some anatomy studies focused around shapes - trying to exaggerate or simplify them so that the shapes were more expressive. I got a bit frustrated during the process and I’m not sure if these really worked out the way I wanted. This is generally a stage that I’m at right now - I want to stylize more, but I’m not totally sure in which direction, so I end up getting kind of stuck in the middle. Gotta keep at it! I hope you like them :)

Hey guys! I did a little interview with Wouter Tulp yesterday on his YouTube channel and I wanted to share it here in case you guys wanted to see! It was a lot of fun to just be able to talk about art and answer questions. Took my mind off of the pandemic and other stressful things for a little while! Would you guys be interested in doing a patron-only live stream Q&A session? Let me know - if enough people are interested, I'll look into it and find a way to make that happen!

I kinda struggled with making this video and there were some focus issues, plus the phone bounced around a lot while I was filming, so I hope to make another sketching video soon that is better production-wise. But for now, I hope you enjoy this one!

Here’s the process video for the self portrait I just posted! The painting took me around 3 hours to make, and it’s sped up about 4 times (slower than most of my videos so you can get a good sense of how I approach paintings like these!)
Things to keep in mind while watching:
LAYERING LIGHTER COLORS ON TOP OF DARKER / MID TONES
This is a technique I use when I want my drawing to have a creamy, painterly feel. Basically I start with slightly darker colors...

I haven’t made one of these in a while!! Here’s a self portrait that doesn’t really nail the resemblance but I’m happy with how the colors and lighting turned out. I usually draw from photo reference, so painting from real life is aways a huge challenge for me. Also, the lighting changed as I was painting so that added an extra level of complexity :’) It was definitely a fun exercise though!
Here's a selfie that I took while I was drawing so you can compare how my eyes ...
