It's the spookiest month of the year, but also the coziest! This is why we'll be making expressive cat studies together this month. Depending on how you draw them, they can be either cute and fluffy, or possessed by demons. Which vibe are you going for?

Here's the process video for my glossy surface studies! Here's the final result of the session:

Some info about this process:
This month’s challenge for flame members was on studying glossy surfaces! I took it as an opportunity to draw autumnal comfort foods because why not? It is the season after all! It was a bad idea to draw these while hungry, though 😂
Flame members also get the full process video, pl...

Here is the recording of this month's Q&A session! I loved this session, there were so many recurring themes like imposter syndrome, mental health and positivity towards one's own art that kept coming back. These are themes that are so important to me, so it was nice to be able to talk about them!
Some of the topics covered in this session:
Hello flame members! This is just a friendly reminder that this month's Q&A session is on Sunday, at 5PM CEST. That's in two days! Visit this time zone converter to see what time that is in your area.
I hope some of you can make it, and as always, feel free to drop any questions you have into the #ask-loish channel on the disc...

Earlier this year I explored a style that was inspired by Egon Schiele's work and the way he separates the planes of the body and face into different colors. I wanted to play around with that style a little more and see what came out of it! I really like drawing in this way because I feel like it's a mix between studying the body and face, and pushing a certain stylistic approach - the sweet spot...

Here’s the process video for my September sketch session! This is part two, which is the process for the second two pages (random characters and birds). Here’s the final result of the session:

Some information about this process video:
Here’s the process video for my September sketch session that I posted last week! It’s been a while since I recorded the process of a traditional sketch session and some of you have been asking for that, so I figured it was time! I’ve divided it into two parts - this is the video showing the process for the first two pages (the foxes and the mushrooms). Here’s the final result of the session:

It was time to sit down and spend some time with my sketchbook - this always gets my creativity going! It’s almost autumn so I wanted to get into the flow with some fall-inspired sketches: foxes, mushrooms, and cozy clothes. I'm especially happy with how the mushrooms turned out! It can be so freeing to draw something that doesn't need to be drawn perfectly to make sense.
I also filmed the process for these sketches and I’m putting together a process video for you! I’ll post it ne...

This is a theme that I’ve drawn before, but I wanted to revisit it again! I sometimes talk a bit about my art school experience in Q&A sessions, and it’s been on my mind lately because last weekend I visited a city I used to live in: Gent (or Ghent) in Belgium. While walking through the streets of this city, it suddenly hit me that it’s been exactly 20 years ago since I started my college...

It's time for this month's tutorial, which is on stylizing anatomy! In many ways it also touches on the topic of stylization in general, so I think this is a useful video for anyone who is cultivating their style - but especially for those of you who are trying to figure out how to get away from realism when drawing characters and figures!
There are a bunch of tutorials I've made which form excellent companions with this one. Here's a list:
September is upon us at last! Here's what you can expect from me this month as a patron:

As always, I'll be making a tutorial video this month! It's going to be on stylizing anatomy. I got a lot of questions about this and I've been brainstorming the tutorial today! I've got a lot of...

September always reminds me of shiny, red apples 🍎 So I thought it would be fun to take a closer look at the kind of glossy texture they have. That's why for this month's challenge we will be making glossy surface studies together! You can draw any subject matter - fruit, leaves, honey, candy - basically anything that has a shiny, glossy surface! There's a lot of images in the reference folder, and the inspiration folder has interesting examples of how you can approac...

Here's the process video for my simple & expressive shapes sketches that I did for this month's challenge! This part is just me warming up and trying out some different rendering styles. I only really land on something I use in the very last stage. The drawings I make in this process video are kind of random, but I figure it would also be good to share how I warm up / experiment / try things out before proceeding to the final!

This month’s challenge for flame members was on drawing poses with simple and expressive shapes! This is a great exercise to practice stylization and push the personality of the poses. It's actually so much more complicated than it sounds - simplifying takes a lot of effort! I also created some warm-ups and style tests before I figured out how I wanted to draw these - they're included in this...

It’s been a long time since I drew a self portrait! I’ve definitely been through a lot since then. My health took a nosedive and I got sick so many times, and I also went through a really rough time for my mental health which led to many aspects of my life coming to a standstill. I even had a flare-up of my arm injury which I hadn’t had for years - It took a whole month to recover from that. It w...

After drawing last month’s emotional painting, I realized how rarely I draw more extreme or negative expressions. It’s sometimes hard for me to reconcile my style with that type of emotion. Because of that, I wanted to practice these expressions and see how I could strike a balance between that intensity and my more rounded “cute” style. This was definitely challenging to do but I learned a lo...
