Carmen's bad luck begins!
This page is here to illustrate that Carmen falling into that bad luck potion last page has had negative consequences, affecting all aspects of her daily life.
The paneling was changed a bit from the script to the page, to make everything flow better. The first panel was also changed to combine panels 1 and 2 in the script, serving to both establish the scene (and show Carmen specifically going to class, which wasn't mentioned in the script) and make everything ...

Salvadora is pretty great at defeating villains but often ends up in sticky (or wet) situations anyway. Here, an errant puddle has caused Salvadora to careen into the bad luck potion Loa was brewing, which will give her bad luck for the rest of the issue, with hilarious results!
Salvadora standing next to Loa in the first panel was cut, leaving the first panel to just focus on Loa, as that improved the comedic timing. Similarly, the sound effect in panel 2 was c...
2018-10-22 11:31:31 +0000 UTC View PostA new episode begins, and a new villain debuts! Give Loa a warm welcome to the cast!
The name "Loa" was recommended by a friend, as it's a name for "god" in a voodoo cult they had read about, and it sounds cool to boot.
Loa's lair turned out so well, it's definitely a location we'll reuse in the future.
This page checks off something I've been meaning to put in this comic for a long time, the heroic entrance right next to a door played for comedic effect.
I always love doing Ask the Cast pages.
For a while, I had been thinking about expanding Salvadora's powerset, and this Ask the Cast provided the perfect opportunity...to put it off because I can't think of anything that would be really good in the comic yet. I used this Ask the Cast to leave Carmen's powers open-ended so I can have her do more stuff later when I can think of cool powers to use (and Xatra, too, since they have the same powers).
There were some minor changes made to this ...

Above is the first ever sketch of Pulchritudinous. She was one of the earliest villains concepted for the comic, and was almost entirely a Justin creation. Her name, her bodytype, and her costume were all Justin, for sure. I'm a bit hazy on who came up with her powers, it could have been me or Justin but I'm inclined to say it was me who decided to make her a speedster. Her motivations for doing bad things have changed a bit since she was first designed. Originally, Pulchritudinous was going to ...

Coming soon...ish. Gotta get through a couple episodes first.

2018-10-01 11:22:36 +0000 UTC View PostAnd thus, Selfie Showdown draws to a close!
This episode set out to do two things: establish Xatra's new bodytype, and establish Xatra and Pulchritudinous (or X&P for short) as best friends. We also got a chance to show off Thirstagram more, which is always fun. That's definitely something that we'll be bringing back regularly.
X&P kind of came up on the spur of the moment, as I was writing this episode. With Finch now appearing regularly as Salvadora's crimefighting friend, it o...
2018-10-01 11:21:41 +0000 UTC View PostThe main change this page got from the script to the actual page was the addition of a panel for Jean and Finch's interaction. Justin felt, rightfully so, that the smoke bomb getaway would be better if there was an extra panel of Finch displaying the smoke bomb before she bamfed outta there. It came out looking pretty good!
This page is part of a common theme in Salvadora of self-defeating villains, who cause their own undoing in their overzealousness to defeat Salvadora. In this case, I took ...
