So, if you're wondering how Crimson Gray has done... me too. Nutaku's site is having issues and they are not returning my emails due to AnimeExpo. -_- But enough about that, Crimson Gray discussion can go in the previous post. Also check out this user post for a full spoilers discussion.
So, about the next TLS update... I can say with som...

It's finally out! Some of you have already heard about this, if not helped beta test it, but for some of you this will be the first time. So, let me formally introduce Crimson Gray!
A synopsis some of you have read is below, but none of you have seen the trailer, so feel free to take a look!

So, as some of you have noticed, the update wasn't out in the average amount of time. One thing that I want to make clear for people who are new here: I will almost always talk about how an update is incoming before it arrives, so that is the surest way to set expectations. Having said that, let me explain why this release cycle will be longer than usual.
Right now I'm nearly certain the war will be spread over two updates. The first one will be larger than a normal update, covering the majori...

Productive week. The war will definitely start with a larger then average update. I was going to type up a thing about the structure of the war event and how update length interacts with my workflow in general, but I'm kind of tired and I think my energy is better spent on creative work. (Apologies if you're awaiting a reply from me somewhere. I will be busy this evening, but after that you can expect replies.)
However, one of you guys requested fanart of Robin from 2017-06-18 22:12:55 +0000 UTC

Sorry this update is late in coming, I have been spending creative energy on other things. I have made sure to try to get other things in motion, though - for example, the next time you see the game, it will hopefully have a custom GUI.
This update is mostly polishing, so only play if you're interested in that. But I do have a question for anyone who played the previous version: did you make use of the q.save, q.load, and f.skip options? I'm looking to cut less useful functions fr...

Spent all week doing solid creative work! To keep this from being a tiny update, I'll go into a little more detail on one aspect.
This section is going to have quite a few maps: familiar locations, new locations, and scene maps. Since this is a continent-spanning war, it needs to have a sense of scope. Part of the benefit of a long game is being able to return to places you remember from previous sections, but I think it's also important to see some brand new places for the sake of verisimilit...

This has been a busy week and TLS progress has been slow. One thing I want to note is that the causation doesn't flow that way. I scheduled more busyness for this week because I knew TLS progress would be slow.
Planning is a tricky exercise, because you get diminishing returns on quality the more time you put into it, but sometimes you really want those small returns. Right now I'm setting up the entire structure of the war, two or three updates worth of content. It involves so much o...

Time for another project preview! This one is actually mostly done and you guys will get a chance to play it before too long. More about that and possible future routes for this game at the end. For now, here's my begrudging effort at promotional text:

Hey, everyone. The TLS release is public, KoD is launched with great success, these are good things. I am kind of tired for a number of reasons, but I'm not going to let up now. Onward to the next updates of both games!
Meanwhile, though, I wanted to get everyone's opinions on another matter. As I've mentioned, I have a number of side projects in the works. One of these is essentially done - I could release it now, I'm just not sure if it could use more polish or if now is a good time. I will ...

Hey, everyone! This week's update could be the opposite of last week's: I did a huge amount of work on TLS, but don't have a lot to say. I'm confident the next version will be ready by May 19 even if this week presents a lot of unexpected obstacles. There's a small chance it might be ready but I won't be able to release it then due to other things, but I hope not.
Now, you're probably wondering about the lovely picture of Qum up there. ^-^ It was drawn by an artist called 2017-05-14 18:30:09 +0000 UTC

With Patreon accounts there is a tendency to constantly stress the amount of work that goes into our games. Some of this is gratitude for everyone who supports us, but I worry that at times it's a cynical PR gambit: "WE ARE WORKING 20 HOURS PER DAY UNTIL OUR FINGERS BLEED I HAVE NOT EATEN IN DAYS" and so on.
I've always tried to be more direct here, and I'm honestly not sure to what degree that's wise. Patrons do often approve of my openness, but I also get negative reactions outside Patreon e...

April has been an unusually busy month in terms of Patreon updates, hasn't it? I'll cover some miscellaneous business, then talk about TLS 0.27.0.
Thanks again to everyone who helped out by reviewing Ouroboros in Newgrounds. I wasn't sure if it would be well-received, but it has a rating approaching 4/5 and it got three awards: Frontpaged, Daily Second, and Review Crew Pick. With over 25k views so far, that's a lot of new eyes on my work. It didn't lead to all that many sales or new patrons (t...

Alright, everybody, it's time to talk data. Brief TLS update first: progress has been very good, I'm hopeful I'll be able to release version 0.26.0 on Friday (cross your fingers). Now, to the surveys.
We got a total of 1256 responses! 285 patrons, which is about a 35% response rate - that's pretty good. The rest of the surveys were from 971 fans. I'm going to lay out the data in order, in most cases looking at patrons, fans, then the combination of both. Huge thanks to everyone who filled out ...

This post is both an early preview of a game that will be coming out eventually and a bit of insight into my creative process. What is the game actually about? Here's my first attempt at an official blurb:
Game Intro
The Endless Court is eternal, ruled by Immortals who have guided the four races of the world since the dawn of time. But they seem very concerned that no one spends too much time studying the broken ruins that litter the world, and peace is more ...

The survey has received over 1000 responses! Those are the kind of numbers you see in some pretty big surveys, so it's impressive that we got so many. I'm quite pleased by this, and we should get some very interesting data.
However, I'm not going to be making my big post about the results this week. The survey has been great - fun numbers, plus many people have written thoughtful or heartfelt comments - but it has sucked up a fair amount of my time. And though many secondary tasks are ne...

Early update to maximize schedule productivity!
I've made some good progress on 0.26.0. My notes came together well and I actually got a decent number of maps made - that's more than I would normally have done a week after the public release. Just because I was inspired, though, I'm also going to take some time for fun things, starting now:
It's time to talk about the demographics survey I mentioned last week. I wanted to get people's thoughts here. Is anybody opposed to the idea of a su...

Hey, everybody! This update is going to be a miniature state of the union. Uh, state of the Patreon. In brief, though, I will likely take a bit of extra time on the upcoming release.
In the last half of 2016, my creativity went in every direction due to personal issues. To keep myself productive, I started a bunch of side projects. Too many side projects. I hope not to waste the work I did on those, but many had to be shelved for the near future. More on these later.
For 2017, I wanted t...

Hey everyone, it's time to talk dual techs. These are something I considered early in development but didn't think was possible, so I didn't really plan for them. Now that they're possible (thanks to Decanter), I want to include them, but since I haven't planned them into my game balance stuff, I thought it'd be best to crowdsource the subject. You guys collectively have a ton of experience with TLS combat, after all.
First, the basic details of these skills' functioning. These skills will use...

I'm not sure whether or not the next update will be released on March 3rd. I hope that it will, I'm just not in a position to commit to that date. I am ahead of schedule, but I anticipate the coming week will be busier than usual.
This update will cover a longer period of time spent in Yhilin, though my intent is that it won't take much longer to play. The party can't be doing exciting stuff all the time, after all, so I like writing periods where they get a chance to catch their breath and do...
