Early & Ad Free | Whippet – Fast and Furious 1918 | Tank Chats Reloaded

Hello Patrons!

Enjoy this early access video about the Whippet. Was the British Medium Mk A Whippet the World’s first proper tank? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Able to do 8mph, but incredibly difficult to drive, Whippet was far faster than the British Heavy Tanks of WW1. Using their speed, Whippets were able to operate behind the enemy front line to destroy enemy formations and create chaos. At a stroke, the tank was transformed from what was effective a siege eng...

Early & Ad Free | M47 - The Most Boring Tank Ever? | Tank Chat

Hello Patrons!

Enjoy this early access video about the M47. Is this the most boring tank ever? Let us know what you think in the comments.

The US built M47 probably isn’t the most interesting tank in history – but it was a vital part of the NATOs Cold War tank force. Rushed into production at the outbreak of the Korean War, it never saw active service with the US military and was quickly superseded by the M48.

However, large numbers were supplied to US Allies around t...

Apprentice Update

Hi Patrons

I hope you enjoyed Tankfest 2024. We had a busy time beforehand preparing our own vehicles and helping guest vehicles.

During Tankfest I was the fuel courier, managing the supply to vehicles during the three days.  I also participated in the opening display, commanding the Warrior which I enjoyed. The work continued afterwards as we washed down the vehicles and parked them up.

During Tankfest the Light MK4 started to run awfully. So after Tankfest we br...

Early & Ad Free | $7 BILLION - Is Ajax Worth It? | Tank Chats #177

Hello Patrons! Enjoy this week's video early and ad free. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Troubled. This is how the UK's newest armoured fighting vehicle, Ajax, has been described time and time again by the British media. With repeated delays and continual bad press, the Ajax programme has been subject to much scrutiny over the course of its procurement and development. Public opinion of this vehicle is, in a word, poor.

But is this perception wholly accurate, or is ...

Early & Ad Free | Evolution of Airbourne Armour

Lightly armed Airborne troops are at a huge disadvantage when faced with regular troops with heavy weapons and armour. In World War II this led to huge losses in paratroops on Crete and at Arnhem. Since then, many attempts have been made to level the playing field, to give airborne soldiers a fighting chance. This video explores how using first gliders, then helicopters and heavy lift aircraft, attempts made to develop and deliver airportable armour.

Early & Ad Free | FV4005: The Tank That Shook Itself Apart

The Berlin Victory Parade was a chance for the Allies to come together and celebrate the end of World War 2, but as it played out, it would lead to the West becoming increasingly paranoid towards the Soviets.

The revelation of the new Soviet IS-3 heavy tank was a cause for concern amongst the West with it being more powerful than anything they had to show. And if this is what they had in 1946, what would they have in the near future?

Different Western nations then looked for...

M47 I Restoration Project

After the success of the FV4005 restoration, we're raising funds to get our M47 ready to run at TANKFEST 2025.

This Cold War US tank was acquired in 1987 after nearly ending up as a range target and has never been on public display. A restoration project began in the 1990s, but was paused... until now!

Early & Ad Free | Quality v Quantity? | Panzer IV v M4 Sherman | Tank V Tank - Normandy, 1944

Normandy, 1944: in the dense bocage countryside, two tanks, the US built M4 Sherman and the German PzKpfw IV go head-to-head in the fighting around the Allied bridgehead. Both are similar in capabilities but which will prevail? In this film, Chris Copson compares the armour protection, firepower and mobility of the two designs, and we recount the events of a specific engagement fought at Mouen near Caen on 28th June, 1944.

D-Day Tanks: Operation Overlord's Strangest Tanks | Early Access & Ad Free

An opposed beach landing is the most difficult and dangerous military operation it is possible to undertake. Anticipating massive casualties in the Normandy Landings, the British Army devised a series of highly specialized tanks to solve some of the problems – Hobart’s Funnies.

Named after General Sir Percy Hobart, commander of their parent unit, 79th Armoured Division, the Funnies included a mine clearing tank – the Sherman Crab, a flamethrower - the Churchill Crocod...

Hello Patrons!

In 1940, this small but well armoured tank was pretty much all that stood between the German Blitzkrieg and a battered British Army that was retreating to the coast.

Slow, small, and armed only with a machine gun, the A11 Infantry Tank (Matilda I) would achieve great things in its only significant battlefield action – effectively saving the British Expeditionary Force from annihilati...

Apprentice Update | May

Hi Patrons,

There have been a number of projects since my last update that I have been involved in.

We have removed the valves from the Meteor head using the special tool we created specifically for the task.

I have also been helping to prepare and repaint the FV4005 barrel and turret. We knocked out the wood blocking it and then used the Chieftain cleaning brush to remove all the stones and house brick which were behind it.

It was Tiger Day a couple of weeks ago. F...

Michael Wittmann’s rampage at Villers-Bocage was just the start of a fight that was far from the great victory the Germans would claim it to be.

At 0930 on 13 June 1944, in the chaos that followed Wittmann’s fortuitous lunge into the British column, the men of the 4th Country of London Yeomanry lick their wounds and set up their defences.

Evolution of WW2 German Tank Destroyers

Used extensively by the German Army of World War Two, the “tank destroyer” was developed to counter the increasing dominance of the tank on the battlefield.

Germany would field a massive 18 different types of tank destroyer in World War Two – compared with the 7 or 8 different types used by US, British and Commonwealth forces. One of these in particular, Sturmgeschütz III, would d...
