i won't claim to be a huge 40K expert, but I've been enjoying Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader a lot these past few days, and Space Marine 2 looks pretty darn neat, and today I was sat working on Raphael when suddenly I was drawing the aquila on teeny tiny boxers. just a lil sketch I wanted to share with you

Wip raphy wip wip

Changed the wings a fair bit. I try to not change composition too much after the foundation stage because I nearly always end up regretting it, but this one felt right. a bit more exciting, a bit more flowy. we shall see if I come to regret it or not.

slowly but surely making progress on this guy! going even slower as I managed to get ill, but that's life sometimes. hopefully ill be on the mend soon and back to my usual pace.

Raphael WIP

went from one arm down to zero, poor sod. rest assured, he'll get them back. we got some colors now! always fun to see it suddenly pop into life once that's in place.

but I'm not going to lie, this is giving me a lot of trouble ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) very on brand for him tbf. ill keep chipping away at it and keep you updated 🫡

Raphael Rough Foundation

As expected, everyone got it right. It's Raphael time! Recreating the lasso technique I used with Halsin, trying to build up the form and composition at this stage. Yet to figure out what I'm going to do with his other hand, but I imagine it'll just be something relaxed. Onwards!

His hand will rest on his hip in the final version, but for now we can imagine he's holding a bouquet of wildflowers behind his back. just for us. what a romantic fella

anyway, starting to shape up now, eh?? still a fair amount left to do, but we can start to imagine how the finished painting will look. clawing our way out of the ugly stage, brushstroke by brushstroke.

It's July. What???

The great thing about being an artist is that I can work from home and I never have to interact with the outside world. This also means that I never have any clue what day of the week it is. Such mortal notions hold no sway over me anymore. Which also means that when I do notice the passage of time, it always surprises me just how friggin fast it's going, what do you mean it's already July, BG3 only came out a few months ago right?!

Halsin Clean(er) Form

starting to look juicy. and Halsin resembling! still very rough and it's giving a bit too feminine vibes, the proportions aren't quite there, but I reckon it's time for me to start adding some colors. I've got the base form and values down, and I don't want to polish it too much in greyscale as I find a lot of character comes from building differently coloured brush strokes on top of the base form.

Astarion adjustment

Less wine mom, more come hither. It's not often these days that I need to transform the sketch as much as this, but this time it was just not right, and I had to spend a few extra days just making sure I have a good foundation. Thank God for the liquify tool. I erased his face and completely redid it, which was definitely a good decision.

I've also decided to have a relatively monochromatic colour scheme, with mostly desaturated blue/grey and red being the only real pop... unfortunatel...

Ahh, that's better. Actually looks humanoid now. Still a very rough sketch of course, looking rather baby faced, but we're getting there.
