How I made the illustrations for TBB [GIF]

I can honestly say I've never worked on two illustrations side by side on the same canvas - until now! I had to make sure they both matched perfectly and the best way to do that was to work on them both at the same time.

While I've not actually read the book, working with TBB was a new milestone for me and it was such an experience working on a big commercial project.

Rhysand Rough Colors

Yknow, when I started this I was like "okay take it easy, no crazy colors where you need to use your brain a lot, just do a white studio light and it'll look good and you'll fly through"

Yet here I am. PURPLE MAIN LIGHT?? I always struggle with these moody colors and yet I keep doing them 😂
Fingers crossed it'll turn out alright.

Also he's turning out to be very beefcake, my vision is for him to be a bit sleeker and lean, so don't grow too attached to the booba.

An unexpected (albeit obvious in hindsight) side effect of drawing so many naked dudes is that I'm getting more confident in male anatomy. Who'd a thunk! Feels good though.

As promised, the cleaned sketch. Pretty happy with how this is turning out so far, fingers crossed it'll stay that way 🤞

Also I know he's depicted flaccid here but I reckon I'll do a flaccid and an erect version at for the finale.

It's official, we're throwing absolutely any semblance of workflow out the window for this one. We'll see how it turns out in the end. The colors are wonky at the moment because I wanted to make sure the canvas had a gradient transition from blue to red. Rest assured Az will look a bit less blue when we're done.
