Chapter 254 – Day 535 (Part 3) – A Rampant Invasion

General Smith, you earned some major points. I looked at the devastation his soldiers had done on the Ritualist’s army. I noted the soldiers retreating along the top of the wall. Well time to bait the Ritualist inside and cut him off with the city shield.

I noted friendly summons were still around, ready to relay information back. I watched from the top of a building near the collapsed worm bit as the hybrids entered into Purgatory. If I had to guess, General Smith’s little trick co...

Chapter XXVI – Day 532 – The Power Of The Champion

There was an additional presence in one of my buildings. I frowned at that. No one escaped from the arrivals, so it had to be someone new. Now another presence. It was Champion Michael and his lapdog, I had no doubt. I had only left this morning to head towards a level 4 zone to get some more level 4 crystals.

I stopped my army’s advance and spun everything around to head back to the East Bastion. If Michael was here, I was more than happy to kill him. Unless he brought a million crys...

“Ritualist,” I said to the werewolf first.

“Champion Michael. Surprised you are willing to talk,” the werewolf said for the Ritualist.

“Well, after our history, how could I refuse. You accepted my dinner invitation all those days ago. Now I return the favor,” I said hoping to agitate and unbalance him.

“And I survived that first battle between us. Which I count as a victory. Now here I stand, ready to crush everything and drive you into the wilderness. What wil...

Chapter XXV – Day 422 – Fighting A Level 4

It had been quite a hassle to build up my army again, but I had. It was just a matter of time, patience, and using up the arrivals when they showed up. The great pulsing red worm monsters to the Southeast of the East Bastion had been quite a useful find. Replacing my lost were-elephants.

Their size combined with their ability to resist all skills was just as good as my metal hybrids. The worms were better off as summons, since the size of the monsters was the their main selling point. T...

I stepped forward, waving at the soldiers to stay put. He had his hands open and out to the side of his body, clearly indicating he was no threat. But that didn’t mean anything.

“Hello Astrologer. I don’t think I have seen you around before. Quite an odd time and place to show up,” I said. The man let out a long sigh. I couldn’t get a read on his Body stat.

“The Ritualist is a grave threat to the stability of the region. I was content to mind my own business. But he se...

Chapter XXIV – Day 353 – Battle With Uday

The dark skinned people grinding outside the city had fled at my approach. While tempting to try and capture them, I needed my complete focus for the fight to come.

The city walls were in sight was an older man with dark skin and pure white robe, and a staff came out of the city gate. He had was bald, but his eyebrows were white. I noted they had towers and defenses. Time to get his measure first, while I arranged for a massive alpha strike. For this could be none other than Uday.

I felt something poking me. Let me sleep. It poked me again. “Michael wake up,” I heard a voice say.

“Urrg. Getting up, getting up,” I grumbled while sitting up and rubbing my eyes. Clarissa was there with a long stick. “Really a stick, Clarissa?”

“Just to be on the safe side, poking a sleeping dragon. It has been six hours. Our outer scouts have reported the Ritualist is a zone and a half away but is settling down for the night. He will be here mid-day tomorrow. Hur...

Imbue Reform.” I used the skill after getting a restoration. I let out a sigh of relief. My monsters sensed a figure approaching. It was the Astrologer again. I hadn’t seen him after he had explained where to get the skill I needed and some useful level 3 monsters for hybridization. He also explained consumption and said he would be back later once I had built up an army.

I had been a fool and an idiot for missing something so obvious. Of course, there would be power tra...

Captain Terrance

“Alert!” I heard the shout carried by my men and some women. I was only half done putting my uniform on when the shout went up. I quickly grabbed my sword and shield to head up to the gate. Dammit, this was the time when new arrivals were about to go out to grind. Which one of them had done something stupid today?

“Open the gate in the name of Champion Michael!” I heard the loud shout and moved even more quickly. I hurried outside and was ...

Chapter XXII – Day 333 – Allies of Convenience

I had used the new arrivals as hybrid fodder and was slowly building back up. The main issue was the constant pain that coursed through my body. It ebbed and flowed. It was barely manageable. Curse Michael, I wish he went and died.

I gritted my teeth as I gathered up more crystals using hybrids outside of the city. I was sweeping around the city of Heaven as quickly as possible to gather all the level 1 monsters. Efficiency was key. Efficiency would allow me to kill Michael and avenge m...

Chapter 249 – Day 534 – Let The Bells Ring

The walls of Purgatory were in sight just as light source was sending its initial rays into the sky behind me. I reached the gate where there was a summon monster outside.

“Open the gate in the name of Champion Michael!” I yelled out as I raced into the tunnel. I heard movement and the gate quickly opened. Soldiers in the red uniform of the RMPF quickly saluted me. A Captain came running out of the tower, half dressed. I saw several people in gray outfits standing around at the near...

The stonelands were right in front of us. A midair turn, showed that the Ritualist was still keeping pace with us, about half a mile or kilometer behind. Stopping to think was just asking the Ritualist to catch up with us, but it would cut down on the monsters after us and his forces.

“I will take the lead, and clear a path,” Naran said and leapt away before I could respond. I let out a sigh of relief. That was the true power of teamwork. He stepped up exactly when he needed to, to ...

“I got point, watch above and my back,” I said to Naran.

“Might be better if I engage, since I am faster,” Naran said.

“No, we don’t want to get caught up. Once we reach the stonelands, it will be too difficult for the Ritualist to chase us. Also I want to use up my energy and regenerate it,” I replied.

“Ah, and I would get tired,” Naran added as we raced through the East Bastion towards the West gate.

“Yes. I have no doubt he will try to slow us do...

Chapter 246 – Day 532 – The East Bastion Is A Factory

The city came into sight in the distance. We had crossed over into a level 1 zone. Lots of white rabbits. I could easily kick one and it would die, turning to dust and dropping a crystal in the air. There had been no sign of the Ritualist or any kind of response.

There were no people outside the city either, which wasn’t a good sign in the middle of the day. I noted there were towers above the gate and an actual door that was open. There was no movement. I listened, and there was no s...

I coaxed Ajani to tell her story and listened intently once she started. “Over 150 days ago, many monsters came to East Bastion. I was out in the fields and saw. Deformed humans, forever cursed. Great power. We all fled and Uday went out to confront the great evil.”

“I did not see the fight. But Uday lost. The city shield was used before the great evil could get inside. Many great warriors and shamans came together. They rushed out of the city. They all died screaming. Many stayed...

“We are pushing onwards. We handled a level 4 monster, we can handle whatever nonsense that comes up at level 3. Just watch your footing,” I said as I eyed the large boulders strewn ahead of us to make the stonelands.

“You taking point or me?” Naran asked. That was a good question. He had the higher Body stat, but I had the higher Perception stat. I was also the best equipped to deal with any monsters that might show up. In the end

Chapter 243 – Day 531 – Level 4 Poke

We left very early in the morning, all bundled up for the frostlands. The first monster were level 3 yellow foxes. They were quick and fast, and sent out bursts of light before moving into attack. It was disorienting, and annoying, but not hard to deal with.

We kept pushing North. No sign of a tower or any other terrain feature. The next monster was a white fox. Both Naran and myself could easily take their attacks and powered our way through the monsters with ease.

We crested a h...

Chapter 242 – Day 530 – What Direction?

We set off to the East the next morning. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before Naran called for a halt.

“The energy in the air,” he waved his hand like that was supposed to mean something to me.

“What is it exactly?” I asked.

“There is a void zone ahead of us. I can see the energy changing directions, blowing towards us,” Naran said. I frowned at that and looked at Fethee and Heba. They barely had any Spirit, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to get close to ...

The level 3 chicken bosses were easily killed. Honestly the dungeon was a nothing burger, except for its horrible location.

The first skill was Force Wall. It appeared like a weaker version of what the light blue gargoyles had been using in my level 3 grinding spot by the tower. That was how the light blue chickens were double jumping.

I would have considered replacing Aqua Sphere, but the issue with the skill, was that it was very weak to energy attacks, other s...

“Oh, what is it?” I asked as we got up for the day.

“It is a repair skill. It is stretching out the physical properties of what it is used on. That is why it didn’t feel right when I used it on myself,” Naran explained.

“So, if you sword was hit with acid, it only fix the pitting by pulling from the rest of the sword,” I worked out.

“Yes, at least that is what it feels like. Based o...

“Detour?” Naran asked me as we looked from the swamp line to the Northwest. There was a large dead tree in the distance. It reminded me of the tree from the swamp with how it spiraled up into the air.

“Why not, the cats aren’t so tough,” I replied. We had been killing red cats. They were quick and fast and had fire tipped claws. Not that it mattered much with how easily they died. We easily killed our way through the cats to the tree. They were regular sized cats, and with the...

“I want to poke it and get some information. I am curious about the skills. Also, it is on the way,” I replied.

“I suppose, outside first?” Naran asked.

“Yes, clear the perimeter, also good practice for Fethee, right?” I asked looking over at the man.

I had camped out at the edge of the swamp the previous night and set off first thing in the morning. I was not about to be stuck in a swamp in the middle of the night again.

Acid Shot. I took out a large level 2 brown slime floating its way towards me as I kept plowing through the stagnant and smelly water. After this, we could hopefully stay away from swamps for a while. I wasn’t hopeful, but I was just about done with them.

Oh, a large green slime now, new monster typ...
