Interview Suggestions?

Happy September, everyone! We're finally settling into the school semester, which means that I get my workday back again! I'm trying to get back into the habit of releasing videos at least semi-regularly, so I want to set up some more interviews. I have some ideas of who I want to invite, but I wanted to see if you all had any suggestions or requests! Just drop them in the comments, and I'll see what I can do :D

Questions for upcoming interviews!

Happy Halloween, everyone!

I'm just popping in to say that we have two interviews coming up - one with Dr. Sophus Helle (November 14th), and one with Annelise Baer (TBD). Sophus will be talking to us about the Sumerian priestess Enhaduanna, and Annelise is going to be talking about the Amarna period. If anyone has questions for either of them, please put them below and I'll make sure to ask those first during the Q&A section!

All upcoming interviews can be found on...

Tired of Hearing About Tyre

Apparently Josh's essay on Tyre has disappeared from Patreon, which is incredibly unhelpful, so I'm reuploading it for those who are interested.

Digital Hammurabi Press newsletter

Just a quick note to say that we now have a newsletter for the Digital Hammurabi Press - I'll use it to send updates about book projects, including progress reports, release dates, and any price changes. I'll continue to post here when new books are released, but if you want more regular updates than that, this mailing list is your best bet :)

Patreon-only AMA/hangout

Good morning everyone!

We're (finally) starting to emerge from the fog of life with newborns, as the twins are no longer waking every hour at night. Which means that I finally have the headspace to arrange Patreon hangouts!! Thank you to everyone who's been waiting for your patience, and I'm truly sorry it's taken so long.

We'll be doing an AMA/hangout TOMORROW, Saturday 4th December, at 9am EST. This will be an off-air and unrecorded Zoom call:

Production line!

Just a quick look behind the scenes at Digital Hammurabi HQ. I’m currently oiling a Humbaba plaque cut from cedar! I’m really pleased with how it’s turning out, and I have to say that I absolutely love the wood grain. I’m going to do it in a pale beech also, for people who don’t like the grain so much.

Perfectly imperfect mugs

Hey all!

We recently bought a mug press so that we can offer mugs with my designs on directly, rather than having to go through a printing company like RedBubble. Getting to grips with the press has meant that I have a few less-than-perfect mugs on my hands. Obviously I can't sell them, but if any of you would like to pay shipping only and have me send you one, than I'm happy to do that!

If you want a mug, please comment below and let me know which one! I'll then message you...

Humbaba, guardian of the cedar forest!

Wall  plaques featuring the monster’s face were used as protection, and a  number of them survive from antiquity. I used this example from the city  of Ur (plaque dates to approx. 2000 BCE) as a base for a computer  illustration, which is then turned into 11 individual layers designed to  show the 3D nature of the original.

It’s  a little too thick, I think. They eyebrows come up too high, and the  design needs tweaking…but overall I’m very ple...

Atheist's Handbook to the Old Testament preview

I'm doing final edits now, and the book should be available to purchase by the first of June! The preview is up on the website, but I'm putting it here as well for your ease of access :)

If you haven't noticed, we've also started out 2021 HAPS interviews! The first set is already up on the channel - we interviewed all of the Hebrew Bible specialists last weekend. This coming Sunday we'll be talking to the Archaeologists :D

Update and Tiamat colouring page!

Happy 2021, and welcome to those of you who joined recently; we're glad to have you on board!

Unfortunately, due to the on-going pandemic, things are still not as productive in the DH household as I'd like :( Surprisingly, supervising two children in virtual school, and keeping the three year old distracted enough so that he doesn't gatecrash his sister's classes is not terribly conducive to research or to video creation! It's really frustrating because I feel like my brain is jus...

Patreon call scheduling

We've had a couple of people request a Patreon call - we're actually looking at ending this perk for the foreseeable future due to the shitshow that is 2020 and the associated stressors, so if you want a chat then now is the time!

If you DO want to join us on a call, please comment below and I'll send around a DM for further arrangements. I'll gather names this coming Friday, so make sure you comment before then!

We obviously need to come up with a new perk to replace it, so...

2020 We're-still-here Update

A quick update from the Hammurabis!

Our girls are now back at school, but they're attending virtually. This  means that the vast majority of my time is now taken up with supervising  our youngest daughter's work, and making sure that her brother leaves  her alone for long enough that she can actually complete it. We're still  working on videos when we have the chance, but our update schedule is  going to be erratic for the foreseeable future ;_;

We're still here!

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry it's been so long since my last post - and I'm sorry that it's been so long since we uploaded an edited video. The majority of our output has shifted to livestreams, either interviews or language classes, since the pandemic hit. Partly that's because I just don't have time to research or edit videos right now - all three children are at home, and with the current health concerns we're just not happy sending them to daycare or camp. I'm also 35 weeks pregn...

New HAPS website launch!

I'm proud to share with you the new H.A.P.S. website! This is intended to be the go-to place for all HAPS news - including applications, fundraising information, blog posts, and award announcements. We officially applied for non-profit status this week, and will hopefully have a decision in the next month! Be sure to check out the "leadership" section of the website, to meet our board members - you'll probably recognize most of them!

HAPS interviews starting soon!

I hope everyone is staying as healthy and sane as is possible under the  current circumstances! Things are settling into a new normal here, and  we have some great content coming up for you. I'm working on a complete  narration of the Enuma Elish (I finished it last week and then the  computer ate my audio files ;_;), we have a couple of new HeBANE podcast  episodes, and - most excitingly - we're going to start interviewing for  HAPS 2020!  If you're u...

Pausing Patreon billing until May!

First, I want to say how much Josh and I appreciate the support of everyone who contributes to our Patreon. You help us cover things like equipment upgrades and web hosting fees, and we feel truly honored that you find value in what we do. Thank you.

The main point of this post is to let you know that we're going to be pausing all payments until May - Patreon should not bill you until then! This is partly because the future is so uncertain for everyone, and partly because we just don't ...
