Yesterday I was hanging out with Combustible Lemonade - and we started a livestream.
It has turned into a more-than-3-hour party with people who came in to ask questions, hang out and say hi.
It's a new and exciting experience to me. I have tried some livestreaming before but I tried that alone and doing it with a friend feels much better - also I didn't expect anyone to show up, but at peak there were 20+ people watching, around 15 people have probably stayed there for at least 2 ...

As you may know from the previous post. I wanted to do something beautiful and animated to put my album "Suppressed" on YouTube.
So I decided to do two things:
1. Create a continuous mix of the tracks, adding some freshness to the sound and how the tracks play (and overlap) together. I had some ideas how I'd play the tracks in a DJ set, where I'd want to have transitions etc.

I initially wanted to release this in December 2017. However it turned out I can't do it so fast. I didn't want to just concatenate all tracks of the album, add a static cover art and slap it on YouTube. That'd be cheap and I felt wouldn't do justice to this album's music and cover design. So much effort went into both the sound and the cover image, I knew the video version has to be something on par.

Here's a quickly done (only one evening, yay!) rambly video.
I wanted to talk about problems that I've encountered while working with MIDI sequencing in Ardour 5.12.
I also talk about other random stuff, so it's more relaxed, causal video.
I think the ending turned out pretty funny.
I hope there's some useful information here - I wanted to warn the users and let the developers know what currently bugs me the most about Ardour's MIDI workflow.

In most unfa vlog videos I'm making something as you watch - here I take a different approach and dissect something I have created off-screen.
The good thing is that this video is way shorter, and hopefully more efficient with the information, because all the mistakes, and experimentation happened before I recorded it. That can also be a downside.

I've made a track today. I wanted to make a theme song for the upcoming Ardour Guide video series, but it turned out to be unsuitable...
I started an ominous drum&bass track, with sparse sounds and nice breakbeats. 100% synthesized with ZynAddSubFX in Ardour 5.

I've been listening to a lot of Skrillex today, I felt inspired to try out some ideas I got off of that.
And here's what I've created during the evening with Zyn-Fusion and Ardour 6.
I found a few bugs - fro example Ardour 6 adds some MIDI notes when I save, which was a bit annoying, but also created some cool accidents that I ended up using in the composition.
If you're going to download this session, you might need to fix some problems.

I think this might be a useful abstract concept to help you analyze and develop musical works.
I expand on the subject covered in UV#20 - talking about limiting, parallel compression, sidechain compression, deessing and multiband compression. I also cover some technical details related to the compression like what is peak and RMS measurement. Some sound demonstrations too.
I must say I like editing videos with Kdenlive more and more.

If you know me, you know ZynAddSubFX is my favorite software synthesizer. I have made entire albums with only it. It's the most powerful open-source synthesizer in existance - and also I believe - one of the most powerful synthesizers period.
Mark McCurry has taken over ZynAddSubFX, after years of stalled development, and he has done amazing things with it. Both under the hood and in terms of UI development, building the new single-window interface.
