Cross Stitch: Part One (rough draft)

Trauma can cause many changes to a person, and most of them can be explained by psychology, even healed with therapy. After my father passed away though, the change that occurred inside me was not one that could be explained. It wasn’t something anyone took seriously, so I learned to ignore it, and I locked it away.

I didn’t fully understand this until I met my husband. He was performing a study and needed people who had suffered some sort of trauma in their lives, whether it was an...

Orc Girlfriend: Sonja 2 (rough draft)

Sonja’s truck pulls up into the driveway and your excitement spikes again. All day you’ve been getting ready for this, cleaning, organizing, whatever you can to make the house look nice. The bed is made, not that it’ll matter, and you even got a new comforter. It was a silly purchase, but you made it make sense for at least yourself.

You step outside as Sonja walks up the path, she has an overnight bag in one hand, and a grocery bag in the other. You meet her at the stairs, kissin...

Werewolf Boyfriend: August (complete)

Every year, when the holidays come around, you get to paint the windows at work. Halloween is a big holiday in Hearthway Hollow, and spans the entire month of October. The stores in the downtown area all compete in a decoration contest, and the local artists all try to best the top performer from the previous year. Storefronts look like miniature scenes from scary movies.

You’ve just been hap...

Orc Girlfriend: Sonja 1 (rough draft)

It all starts at the beginning of August, well, it begins way before that actually. Planning for the pumpkin patch, as well as the corn maze, takes nearly all year to get right. From the end of Halloween until the following September, planning and preparing is vital.

Your family had been the pumpkin royalty in your town since your great grandfather, it was a tradition passed down to you, as well as the large plot of farm land, when your father passed away. You share the land with ...

Lizardfolk Boyfriend: Thruun 2 (complete)

I decide to make blackberry preserves in a hurry, hoping I can get them done in time to send Thruun off with some. Maybe I’m being a bit delusional. Thruun could just see me as a friend, or he could like me for the peace and quiet I offer.

Still, I can’t help but remember our day picking blackberries. He seemed eager to be with me, even flirty. He said my dark skin was beautiful and even he...

The God in the Field: Part Three (rough draft)

I walked again, just as I had before. I knew I had to go further and further through the field, until my legs gave out, until my body ached. As it grew dark, I felt an end coming. The path would open and I would find somewhere safe for me. Either at the house or with the god again.

My raven appeared over head, guiding me until the path went into the mouth of a hole. The hole went down and, in the shadows, I saw bone and rotting flesh. I saw the people who had become meals to ...

The inn isn’t usually what I like, but the owner is a dear family friend and I do enjoy helping her out whenever possible. The work is tough, but I tell myself that there are silver linings to everything. Oftentimes the tips are good. The people are strange and sometimes mean, but there are far more interesting and kind people than those.

The Dry Bone Inn was once home to my family and I. My ...

The God in the Field: Part Two (rough draft)

The ground was frozen over, crunching as I walked over it. Every so often, I felt as though something was watching me. I would turn and look around, only seeing an endless sea of tall grass behind me. The deeper I walked, the field turned from grass to corn. High stalks rose further above my head. It soon became so thick, I could barely see the sky above me, only the purple whisps at the corn stalks’ peaks.

I stalled somewhere along the path; it felt like I was going backwards a...

When We Leave the Diner: A Ghost Story 2 (complete)

It’s hard to imagine why they would leave this place in ruins. Fearing a curse doesn’t seem like the logical thing to do. Whether it was money, politics, or something else that caused this town to abandon itself and rebuild further away, I’m sure the fire was just the final straw.

The stillness is what gets to me the most. I can stand stillness in the woods, or when I’m home alone. Here...

Some days people are there and some days they are not. This was something I had learned before I could even read, before I knew anything else of the world. I knew people had to go away and never come back. They walked into the field because that was where they belonged.

I remember the day my father walked in. My mother and I stood away from the field, and I felt so terrified because of how tall the grass seemed. It was big enough that when it would consume my father, there would b...

My mother didn’t know she was adopted until she got sick. Her parents never told her, and when she needed a donor, no one on her side of the family was eligible. After some digging, we found her adoption records. My mom decided not to push the issue. It was bad enough that she was sick and living on borrowed time. Her parents must have not told her for a reason, so she wasn’t going to question th...

Werewolf Boyfriend: Matteo (rough draft)

Having left Hearthway Hollow after high school, I wasn’t sure what coming back would be like. Sure, I came home often for holidays, but moving back and visiting are two different things. Things change though, and after one too many changes for me, I decided going back home would be the best bet.

My family owned an antique store in town, and recently that had expanded to where it also included a used book store, which I had taken over for my mother could focus on the accounting, which ...

Things have been so hectic lately that Finn and I haven’t even been able to think of getting married. We have a ring, although I’ve not been able to wear it due to some swelling. Our daughter Merethe is born on a particularly humid day. I’m absolutely...

Room Monster Boyfriend: Toulouse (rough draft)

In the last few months, fed up with your job and needing a break, you started offering computer services from your home. You recently got to do a pretty big job for a local accounting firm, so you had a few extra bucks to get some necessary things for your new home office.

It was lucky you and a friend came across an estate sale one afternoon. Whoever owned the place was never there and had recently died, so everything was being sold for a reasonable price. You were looking for furnitur...

I’ve become a frequent customer of Lene’s lingerie shop. Ever since the success of the first bra, I’ve gone back several times for more, and I’ve completely replaced my old tattered underwear with things from the shop. I have a mate now, after all, and I like showing off for him. Having really nice underwear for him to tear away has been a treat for us both.

I still have my bad days, bu...

When your grandfather had passed away, you made sure to collect that old cigar box that had originally inspired Gentleman Jack. You had often gone back to it, hiding things inside for later. You took it home, along with some other memorabilia from your grandparents place.

Okay, I have no clue what happened. Well, the posting of the “complete” works was my fault. But for some reason, posts from yesterday in the queue never posted? And I don’t know why. They’re posted now, but I’m still so sorry things were messed up! Thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy what’s out today.

Hunting isn’t something I grew up doing. I’ve never actually had to. I grew up in the city, where the only things to hunt were pigeons and squirrels. It sort of scares me to think about going out into the woods to catch something to begin this courtship, but I’m determined to do it.

I try, I really do. I just can’t do it when the time comes, and I cross paths with many deer a...
