Final Bear 2.1 release is imminent

Dear Patrons,

The final release for Bear 2.1 is imminent and it is time to announce few things :)

New hardware

As announced in my previous post, the official Bear 2.1 kits will come with custom Bear t-nuts and screws !

In case you missed the post, those new t-nuts are stiffer, smaller, have a quality thread, are resistant against corrosion, make the assembly easier and more importantly they do not damage the extrusions!

An update on Patreon.com sales tax

Hi everyone,

This is a bit boring post but important one. I promise to come with something nicer soon :)

Due  to new laws passing in several countries and US states, Patreon.com will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st.

Patreon.com has created a customization tool allowing creators to optimize and so reduce the taxes. We can all thanks them for that, this is a very nice idea we all appreciate.

I took time to optimize the tiers...

New t-nuts and screws

I am really happy to share this secret news with you :) . Those are the new t-nuts and screws that will start shipping with 2.1 Bear Upgrade frames.

The biggest problem we faced was to produce custom t-nuts at an acceptable price. We have tested a lots of different manufacturers and several in-house made versions until we could validate those. They are 100% made by LDO Motors.

T-nuts and screws are stainless steel to avoid rusting in humid countries and to bette...

Thank you ... and some updates

Thank you

I really want to thank you again, Patrons, for your precious support during the development of BearMera. I really enjoyed doing it and big part was because of you! Thank you! <3

Some news from the development

  • We are working on a firmware for the BearMera to make it easier to use. It will be based on Prusa firmware 3.9.0.
  • I have received the BLTouch for making a BearMera adapter. After lots of tests in CAD, it will not be possi...

Project Overview

Hi Everyone,

We know that the Bear project is sometimes hard to follow and today we are announcing few things we have made to help with this.

One of the issue is that we share "development in progress" files (the  "dev branch"). We think it is important to get feedback during  development and to give access to anyone that want to get latest iterations. It also allows you to be part of the development which make  the Bear not just our project but a community project....

Happy Easter

Little Easter egg game... There are 10 Lego (flat, square, 1x1 and red) on this picture, can you find them?

Happy Easter everyone. Stay home, safe and strong!

For those that are curious about my setup:

As I disassemble a lot this printer and can't carry too much weight (health issue) I am using heavy rails made for servers (with self locking mechanism). When the drawer is extended the printer goes out completely.

Under the printer you have ...

Almost not sick anymore

Hi everyone, sorry for my absence of these last weeks, I have been sick and it is a very slow recovery. I am feeling better but still not 100%. As they don't test everyone in my country, I don't know if this is COVID or not, some symptoms are similar but not all.

I hope you guys are all safe and strong. I wish you can use your Bear unlike me that can't touch it to avoid contamination. I send you positive thoughts to pass through the pandemic as easily as possible.

I hope to publis...

BearMera Updates

Just want to share some updates on what I did these last days on the BearMera. All those updates will be available soon on my Github.

In the mean time, you can find the new parts in attachment of this post (except the new shroud as I am still working on it).

Nozzle fan duct (shroud) - First picture:

I did a lot of testing on the shroud. Unfortunately, don't expect a huge improvement on it, once again I could confirm that the shape has only a small...

New profile picture!

A week ago I was in the Swiss mountains (in Valais) for some rest. While  it was snowing outside we warmed the chalet with the fireplace. It was  the best place to start building a new profile picture! What do you  think?

Hemera print surface

So I have few good and some less good news :D

The good:

  • It prints!
  • Assembly on the frame went as excepted
  • Safety margins when extruder is full left or full right are perfect
  • Print surface is 240x205mm (the red perimeter on the image)
  • Print surface on MK2(S) might go up to 210mm on Y axis

Less good news:

  • On MK2.5(S) and MK3(S) the Pinda is getting very close to the little screw on the back of the heated bed (those to...

Hemera mount vs Bear extruder weight

Some of you have asked about the Hemera weight and here is a little comparison.

Hemera mount is at 570g and Bear extruder at 585g. The Bear extruder includes the filament sensor so I can say they are very very close.

However, the Hemera has most of the weight lower which might make it more stable compared to the Bear extruder with the stepper on top.

Note that the Bear extruder is using a genuine v6 directly from E3D, not a Prusa version (which has custom heatbreak and non g...

Bear Hemera coming soon as beta testing

Some news from the dev side for the Bear Hemera! It is going well and I will start printing with it very soon. Once the first prints are done and validated, I will share the files with all Patreons for a "beta test campaign".

The wiring is finally done (was not easy) and supports different type of wire thickness (like LDO nozzle fan, Pinda v1 vs Pinda v2, hotend fan with 2 or 3 wires and so on.).

The heated block is at 135° compared to original position. This helps to make a mo...

Details on linear rail development

You have probably seen my post about the linear rail development. Here are some more details exclusively for you dear Patrons.

Florian designed a special carriage to test different rails configuration you can see on those pictures. We tested two different rails from Igus, 20x60 V-Slot and CPC (similar to Hiwin quality). We also read lots of datasheet from other manufacturers and made some pricing research. We made some calculations on lifespan and implication of belt/wagon positions. B...
