Tjock - because we all love low-end!

Tjock is a low-end enhancer similar to my plugin Bear but with a huge difference, Tjock finds and boosts the fundamental as well as adding upper harmonics to the signal. Initially created as a mastering version of Bear but soon started to go astray during development to find its own space in the toolbox. The final version ended up as much of a sculpting sound design tool as a subtle mastering effect to deepen the low end without getting too punished with perceived loudness.

Square 2 v1.10

Square2 is an exceptional Equalizer/saturator that doesn't sound like anything else. With Square2 you will be able to dial in exactly the right amount of saturation and distortion to add life and perceived loudness by just adjusting a simple EQ. You can even place it post your limiter and still be able to add 1-3dB of gain without raising the peaks more than a fraction of what you'd normally expect, often without any changes of the peaks at all.

TLDR; Square2 was born from my experiment...

WUT2

WUT2 is an extremely digital processor with the aim to make you feel like tweaking analog gear. It's trying to emulate the analog workflow, not the sound. The idea is that by laying out the controls and letting them react with the audio in a certain way you will be more present and become better at listening. Hopefully, you'll have the same feeling of tweaking this as I do.

WUT2 has 3 bands, weight, mid-thing, and air. They all have similarities with an EQ, especially the weight and air...

A workaround for the "ItemFX Buffer Click bug" in Reaper

If you use ItemFX in Reaper I'm sure you come across "ItemFX buffer click". Without going into too much detail the last buffer risk being left in memory and being released as the plugin wakes up the next time you play the item, creating a click that is very annoying. This applies to random developer's plugins too, not just my plugins (Waves plugins amongst others). If you all of a sudden have a click at the beginning of an item and don't get where it comes from you probably have this buffer i...

Purr-LoR (or Purr-L&R) v1.10

Purr-LoR will automatically adjust your recording to achieve the perfect phantom center for a more focused sound and better mono compatibility. It uses the detection algorithm from Purr-Fect but instead of achieving fast gain compensation, it is utilized to compensate for any differences in energy between the left and the right channel.

It's simple to use, just put it in your signal chain where you find fit (usually that's early in the chain if not first). Play the most intense pa...

Lazy Kenneth - Patreon Version

I found this version of Lazy Kenneth on an old hard drive from 2016. It was our first attempt at 64-bit and Mac versions of our plugins (mine and Patrik, who was part of Noisebud back then).

Lazy Kenneth will help those who don’t know how or are too lazy to use a side-chained compressor to duck bass-heavy elements that may collide with the kick in 4/4 music. That is music where you put a bass drum on all fours, techno, house, trance, minimal, tribal, etc. Put Lazy Kenneth on anything ...

WUT 1.0

WUT is a sound design sweetener plugin. It comes with three bands that use different experimental algorithms for each band to enhance or excite the audio. It will add weight, depth, and air to even the stiffest audio without ruining the original signal.

A couple of weeks ago I went through all the crazy DSP experiments I kept over the years to see if I could find something worth developing further. I found three different experiments that I thought were worth a look. My initial id...

Bear v1.52

Bear got modulated!

Changelog 1.52:

  • Fixed that the setup gave a false positive on Windows

If you used Bear 1.0 in a project, freeze or render whatever you may need before installing the new version. Or, adjust the tone control in the new version so that it sounds the same as with Bear v1.0.

Bear is a low-end enhancer plugin that employs the principle that you will perceive the fundamentals as louder if you add or enhance the harmonics of a...

What's cooking - Week 10, 2023

This post is not about a plugin but a Reaper Script. I wrote this script to change the project sample rate to the same rate as the selected media item in Reaper. I often forget to check the sample rate of incoming mix files for mastering and it is so annoying when I realize halfway through that I have been working at the wrong rate, this script bypasses my lazy brain and sets the sample rate for me.

Here's the code for the ReaScript:

Chokidar3 EQ v1.10

Changelog v1.10:

  • There's a manual
  • Added a button that opens the manual

The first version of Noisebud Chokidar EQ was introduced in late 2015. It had two qualities that made it stand out from other similar EQs; The bands had a flat shape (a copy from an analog filter design) and it was also 100% level compensated, which at the time was rare. These two qualities made Chokidar EQ easy to work with, the flat curves made it possible to boost the mids and highs with...

At the end of the Leaky3 update video, you'll also find info on two upcoming plugins that will be ready in a couple of weeks!

Video of Buhdist in action

I was hoping to be able to show you how I use Buhdist while mixing but couldn't find a mix that I could use publicly without violating copyright laws. But a friend came to the rescue with a beautiful song recorded at a rehearsal session that I could use. It's just a stereo track so instead of mixing, I mastered it creatively using Buhdist to add depth and width to the song.

Enjoy!

This is just a minor update to fix the linked manual, nothing else has changed.

Changelog v2.01:

  • The manual button will now take you to the right manual for v2

Differences between v1 & v2:

  • Removed the Gentle/Mayhem control, instead, the amount knob reacts exponentially so the green area is the former Gentle section and the red the Mayhem.
  • Added a global HP/LP filter
  • Changed the behavior of the tilt ...

DynaRoute

DynaRoute can be a bit hard to set up, it has the same requirements as Purr-Fect so it will need the same signal that's feeding inputs 1 and 2 also feeding inputs 3 and 4 (in most DAW you'll need to use the built-in sidechain functions).

  • DynaRoute Router - The router is made to be used with Reaper to make the routing easier. It will split your audio into two separate streams. One which travels the normal way through your channel strip and one that will use c...

Buhdist 1.0

Buhdist is a plugin that I've been working on for quite some time, the actual distortion algorithm is a couple of years old but right before this summer, I decided to start cooking up a GUI and add some functionality to make it usable as a plugin.

Amount
This one is easy, turn it up for more distortion. Probably the first knob you touch.

Shape
This control shapes the waveform before the boost, the shape in itself will create distortion so t...

Fletchy-Muncher 2

Fletchy-Muncher helps you find out if your mix is too harsh sounding. It does that by applying an inverted Fletcher-Munson curve (the opposite to the plugin Smile). By doing that, the part of the spectrum where our ears are most sensitive will stand out. You should be able to go up halfway without killing your ears.

- Your mix is a little dull if it still sounds good at 100%, add some mid and high mid to your mix
- You can't bear the sound at 50%. Back off around 3kHz with a dB or ...
