Here's our monthly pin-up!! It's a character that has appeared some times in the pools, so it's nice he's got his chance to shine (:
It gave me the opportunity to do some experiments with lighting and background, like a daytime open sky piece, along with a more nature oriented backdrop! (I noticed I mostly do cozy/indoor lighting?)
I gotta study some more about other types of lighting, but I'm satisfied with the background tbh!! I'...

Actor costume testssss! Wasn't very sure of the path to follow for his design before doing these... For instance I was in doubt if he should be more on the fancy side, or the correct shade of purple I want him to be. I did have a strong impression of him sporting purple so I just went with it!
So yeah, it helped me with a direction :D

Outfit exploration for the monk! The nations will have different aesthetics - the Alchemist's is more leaning towards Victorian and early 20th century, while the Monk's is more aligned with retrofuturism - imagine feudal japan with late 90s early 2000s.
Unlike the Alchemist I had the mental impression for his colors very early on - deep navy blue with an energetic lime green. This combination feels very dynamic somehow!!! But even then I experiment a bunch to discover new combinat...

Starting from shapes is a very good exercise when the idea on your head is a bit vague. Some key elements I have in my mind when tackling him is... rough, but not unfriendly - and a cute overbite, with a big mouth for a big smile! (:

Finally, you can meet another one of the protagonist trio - make some space for the Monk!
These are a bit dated from when I was in a creative slump in the end of the last year, so at the same time that these have the basic essence for the character (body shape, general color palette, head and face), after I've resumed designing him this last month he had a lots of improvement on his design!

Hey!! In my pokeball crafting piece I said I had a personal setting in mind, which was a meiji era inspired setting!! It's mostly an excuse for romance for two old dudes with daughters from a previous marriage LOL it's an old setting, when mega evos were still a fad!!

Color experiments for the alchemist! You know I've been confused about his more definite color palette, so I kinda stopped experimentation with him there to proceed with other characters - I think it'd be clearer what palette he should have once I see him next to the other two characters!

Lately I've been very focused in researching and experimenting for my webcomic project!
