I'd like a t-shirt with "Oustanding at Mediocrity" on it. I imagine it'd be gray.

Again, my take on Norm and Ashley is they aren't actually attracted to one another. Norm is always looking for the "bigger better deal" and Ashley is attracted to risky behavior, like flirting with her unavailable boss.

This is based on the most common question we used to get on the strip (aside from "Why isn't Norm with Ashley". Ugh. :( ) Also, I love when Mel draws bugs/arachnids.

Early Max sketches. Somewhere there's a pic of Max as an octopus, Our editor told Melissa to draw the characters however she wanted the first time around. She changed Maureen from a horse to a fox, and Max from a dog to an octopus. King Features approved the new Maureen, but rejected the octo-Max.

Thanks for the responses to yesterday's poll.
The overwhelming percentage of vote for the unlucky, one legged rabbit made me curious. I'm attaching the "Chopper and Hops" pitch we did for Frederator.
Let me know what you think needs to be improved. If we get enough feedback, I'll share what Frederator wrote when they rejected it. I know since we don't really know each other, it'll be tough to be tough, but it is the internet, so let loose! :D
Thanks!

Which do you think would be funnier for a character trying to become the next beloved children's cartoon character, and failing?
A. An anthropomorphic line whose claim to fame is that he appeared as a curtain rod in an episode of a Batman cartoon.
B. A dung beetle (using Jeff's ex girlfriend Summer as a representation, but could be either a male or female) Tag Line: "I was created to be the next Spongebob by a cartoonist who obviously subconsciously wants to fail!"
C. ...

I was very happy writing an end to Jeff's crush on Maureen instead of having it drag on like many comic strip subplots. Of course, the strips I'm talking about have lasted decades, so I guess I was wrong. :D
