Radical Rekt II: REKT AGAIN (Early Access)

Prior to our Extra Life 2020 marathon there was an ongoing community campaign to keep Extra Life 2014's "RADICAL REKT" in Gatorbox's "top 3 videos in the past 48 hours" listing on my YouTube dashboard. With very few exceptions, the video remained somewhere in that top 3 for MONTHS leading up to the marathon. The intent was to generate ad revenue for the charity, since RADICAL REKT was an Extra Life video. And it worked!

Since Cool Spot, the game that spawned the original video, was on t...

Hauly-Moley 2: November 2020 Edition (Early Access)

Decided to try another one of these, and I ramble about nonsense for so long that you can literally watch the sun go down in the window in the background.

These are pretty fun to do, I like recapping and talking about random things I find especially since not all of them are always video game related, such as the case with some random collectibles and DVDs that turn up in this video.

Pretty much everything in this video with only a couple of exceptions cost me $5 or less, so this ...

"Will you be there with me, when the world ends?" (YLS2 SPOILERS)

THIS POST HAS SPOILERS, I DON'T KNOW WHICH APPEARS FIRST -- THE PICTURE OR THIS TEXT.

The final episode of Your Level SUCKS 2, "Special #12 (Part 2)", is debuting on YouTube this Sunday, November 29th. If you caught the broadcast live you know how it ends, Draco gives a short speech recapping his experiences producing the show (the full VOD's have been on our Twitch channel for all to see this whole time).

HOWEVER -- for the edited versio...

"Hauly-Moley!" - A Test for Supporter Content!

I know there isn't much on the Gatorbox Patreon page and that's largely because the majority of the benefits y'all get are things in our Twitch stream like badges and emoticons, so this page sometimes kind of languishes even though I really should keep up with it more, even if only to write up some "Behind the Emote" posts like I used to.

This post is for Supporters ONLY, so please don't share the link. This is "early access" to a test video I've made and named "Hauly-Moley" ("holey mol...

REVIEW: Crimson Room Decade (PC)

Well this page certainly took a break (and a beating too if all those broken image links are anything to go by). But sometimes life just kicks in your door and punches you in the face. I've been meaning to write a lot more of these reviews than we've published so far (1), so here's the second one. You know that old adage about the journey of a thousand miles starting with a single step, well here's the other foot doing its fair share too I suppose.

The previous (and first) game I wrote ...

REVIEW: Trigger Man (PS2)

In the past I've talked about wanting to write-up proper reviews of some of the games we've featured on the stream and I've decided to finally do something about that. The first review that I've written and finalized is one for Trigger Man, that awful mafia game that gave us so many laughs with this awful graphics, boring music, and terrible gameplay.

A long time ago I used to write about games and review them in a more professional manner, so it's nice to be able to use those talents o...

PATREON EARLY ACCESS: Mountain Dew Game Fuel Taste Test

Happy Saturday, patrons!

As teased in yesterday's livestream, today some early access content has gone up for you all! (Again as usual, please do not share links to the video directly as it's just an unlisted YouTube upload. Feel free to link to THIS Patreon post though!)

Every once in a while Mountain Dew will partner up with some random "AAA" game to bring back some themed "Game Fuel" sodas featuring characters from the game on the labels and usually some kind of "double XP" cod...

Patreon Exclusive* Content Coming Soon!

What's in the glasses? You'll find out soon enough when our next patron-exclusive video is posted to our channel! We'll just say that the glasses themselves are worth several times more than their current contents in this photo. Naturally.

A pledge of even just one dollar is enough to get access to this "Off Air" series video when it is posted!

*The video will be uploaded and visible only to patrons for early access, however it will eventually be made public as I do not believe in...

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE, YOUR LEVEL SUCKS.

Nintendo has officially announced Super Mario Maker 2 for the Switch, set for release later this year. That can mean only one thing... it's time for Draco to don the hat once more and wade into the sea of trash known as "The Super Mario Maker Community".

Your Level SUCKS was the first of its kind on YouTube, launched mere days after the release of the original game. While other channels and streamers were quick to praise mediocrity, Draco took the road less traveled and told it like it ...

#ThankYouPatrons

I'm a little late in posting this because this "surprise" hashtag campaign was like a month or two ago. I hadn't yet run the stream where I planned on thanking Gatorbox's patrons because we took two weeks off after Christmas. Better late than never though!

Anyways this is a video meant to thank everyone who's supported the stream (not just on Patreon alone, but of course Patreon is one angle of it). To help illustrate how your pledges have helped the stream I've got a few things to show...

The Gatorbox Advent Calendar (Days 1-25)

Merry Christmas! For a long time now I've been wanting to create a 24 or 25-part playlist for the YouTube channel featuring an advent calendar. Naturally, an ordinary one won't do so it was going to have to be a "special" one with that Gatorbox flair you all know me for.

Back in 2014 I found an empty Playmobil advent calendar at a thrift store complete with all of its boxes. Since then I've wanted to do this project every single year but for one reason or another it just didn't come tog...

Nuts & Bolts: What Do We Build Next?

This is Gatorbox's first Patron-only post, a sort of test drive if you will. Lately we've been streaming Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts as our "chill" hangout game during the week. We've beaten every mission and we're in the process of rounding out the Trophy Thomas challenges to 100% everything.

That said, there's still some goofy stuff we can do in the game like building very impractical and silly vehicles, and that's where you come in! We've already built some wacky stuff like "Not Minotau...

Let's get those Twitch Pennies rollin' in!

It's no secret that we use the funds raised through Patreon (and Twitch, etc) to reinvest in our stream and make it better, funnier, more engaging, unique, you name it. One of the first things we used Patreon money on was the ill-fated Loot Cam 2000 -- which we still have -- but we encountered some technical problems as well as struggling to find a way to properly incorporate it into the show.

Not everything is a winner like our Prize-O-Matic, a mechanical random number generator. The Prize-O-...

Behind the Emote: "Muscles Gator" (GBmuscles)

In the previous "Behind the Emote" we took a look at "2cents", which was one of the inaugural emotes associated with the Gatorbox channel. 2cents was part of the first 25, however by donating to FrankerFaceZ they gave us another 25 slots in return and to this day we still maintain all 50 of them. (These days we reserve the last five or so slots for potential Patreon supporters though -- a $10 pledge gets you your very own emote!)

Back when we were restricted to just 25 slots we added a whole b...

Did You Know Gatorbox?

I'm always working to improve the stream experience for viewers. Making content that is palatable for Twitch is different than YouTube, with Twitch you're always "on" so even when you have to toss to a break or whatever it's still important to keep the broadcast engaging. I recently rolled out some updates to the "Be Right Back" scene of the show that hopefully does just that.

Previously the BRB screen rolled through some random pictures, screencaps, fan art, and memey graphics referencing thi...

Behind the Emote: "2cents" (GB2cents)

Wow that preview picture looks awful. I guess that's what happens when you take a 32x32 (approximately) image and blow it up 10 times its normal size. Kinda hard to tell that those are pennies, eh?

"2cents" is not the best or prettiest Gatorbox emote, but it holds the distinction of being the oldest one on the channel. Not only because 2cents was among the inaugural set of 25 emotes for the channel (of which only 10 are still in use today) but because the creation of this emote actually predat...

Now with over 1,000 action phrases!!

One of the earliest side projects we ever worked on here at Gatorbox was putting together an amusing Twitter bot. This process actually goes all the way back to the days when the "Gatorbox" name was originally concocted in 2013 and even predates it by a few more years as something that I was once working on just for the hell of it with Monkeymafia, a website coder who would eventually be involved with the Gatorbox project in 2012-2013.

It all began with @MysteryKon, a Twitter handle that I reg...

It's Rasta Otter Time!

Hey patrons! Over on the pledge page I mentioned how your contributions go toward helping fund side projects and one-off specials here on Gatorbox, and here's one such example.

Back in 2015 we began working on a "game repaint" project where we'd be taking a PC game and completely messing it around. New graphics, sounds, music, in-game text, the works. We ended up anagramming ("SHUSH OR HUSH") lots of the existing titles and text and the phrase "RASTA OTTER .ORG" was birthed from "READY SET GO!...

GATORBOX LIVES!

It is with much excitement that I am able to present to you the first *NEW* Gatorbox video posted to YouTube since our hiatus. Friday's stream was a huge success and we could not have done it without your continued support. As such, the first video uploaded just so happens to be a bunch of goodies that arrived at our PO Box over the past 9 months.

Behind the Emote: "Scary Face 2000" (GBscary)

"Scary Face 2000". Bet you didn't know that not only did this emote have a proper name, its name is also nearly a short sentence on its own!

Between 2006 and 2011 Draco formerly ran customer service for Club Penguin on a popular gaming website & forum. In lieu of using regular emoticons, this forum elected to use the emoticon set from the Club Penguin game itself because most of the popular expressions were in there. Naturally, one of the emoticons was your generic :D or "big smile" face. ...

Behind the Emote: "Alter The Spicy" (GBspicy)

(Trying out another new featurette here on the Patreon page where I give some insight into the background behind some of our emoticons.)

"Alter The Spicy" came about from a spot of Engrish on the menu of a Chinese restaurant that Jumon, one of our moderators, frequented. Printed in bold red Times New Roman, the menu let you know that if something was too spicy (or not spicy enough), the spiciness could be altered. We've run into other funny iterations of "alter the spicy" such as "add or delet...

The Month in Review: April 2017

Going to be trying something new here to hopefully make Patrons feel more appreciated, and to hopefully bring more of them in. Starting with this past month, I'd like to recap Gatorbox's shows for the month and help show exactly where your money is going and how it's helping the channel.

April saw not one but two streams of Angels With Scaly Wings, a breakout hit on the channel in the form of a literal dragon dating simulator (which was its original name at one point). "Tuna Boat" Tony B repri...

New camera, thank you patrons!

As some of you are aware, the live camera we use for Gatorbox has been having a ton of stability problems ever since we updated our PC's to Windows 10. The video feed will stutter, jump, and sometimes just straight up completely freeze requiring one of us to unplug and plug it back in to "reset" it. Obviously, this is highly undesirable because it makes the show look bad.
