experimenting with cross-section maps.

If there's one type of image I LOVE, perhaps more-so than maps, it's a good cross-section map. I've been fascinated by these types of maps since I was a child, when I first got a book of star wars cross-sections (I now have every such book made by DK, including a nice collected edition), as well as a few cross-section books by Stephen Biesty, which I adored.

PATRON POLL! which colour palette do you prefer?

Hi all, its time for a poll!

I've been using  the standard topographical palette for years, pretty much since the start of the Atlas project. this is the same palette you will likely come across on wikipedia pages and other creative commons licences across the internet.

However... I've been enamoured (as much a one can be enamoured with the map colours :) ) with the palette used by the Pergamon World Atlas 1968, which uses more reds and pinks.
