Morning, y’all.
We are going to have a video this week, but we’ll be a tad later than usual. We’ll be uploading on Sunday instead (though you’ll get it earlier than then). No massive reason – we’re just a tad behind. I know they say always upload on the same day, but… well… whatever. I think Cheapshow are doing some sort of special episode on Friday for another of their many anniversaries, so we’ll get out of the way of that too.
Next week I desperately need to catch up on day job stuff, so we’ll be re-uploading the Doggerland video up to the new channel, as we seem to have picked up some people who are new to us. And, frankly, that video deserved to do better.
With all that in mind… Biffo’s Brain we’re moving to Sunday night at 7pm, if people can make that. Don't forget!
Also, at some point next month we’re going to hold another quiz night for all Patreon tiers. We really enjoyed the last one.
Iiiiiiiiin other news. I just want to share the above video with you, because I don’t think I’ve laughed this hard in years – not since we last did Digi Live.
Quick bit of background. This YouTube channel was set up by the Australian comedy team Aunty Donna, to give a platform to other alternative Australian comics. Nippers is one of the shows they put on there – frankly, it deserves more views than it got. It’s not for everyone. It’s pretty gross. Very shouty. Proper anti-comedy. I laughed a lot. BUT…
…We watched a couple of eps last night, and there was this one tiny bit in the second one that literally had me wheezing and crying. I don’t even think it was scripted – probably most likely something they did in the edit. I mean, Sanja too, but at some point I think she just started laughing at how much I was laughing.
I'd love to know how the channel is funded, because the views aren't huge for a lot of the things, and they're pretty high production values (at least in a lo-fi way). Makes me want to do stuff like that again.
But tiiiiime and moneeeeeeey! There's never enough of either.
Anyway. I've linked to it – I’m not going to tell you which bit it was, because that would ruin it. But I genuinely wanted to know… when was the last time you laughed uncontrollably like that, and why?

Hello, BYAMPOD listeners! I know we said we'd share the missing episode with you, but... we've just re-recorded it, and this one is much better. You're not missing out on much to be honest - just meandering more around points that we make much better in this version.
This is probably my favourite episode since we came back. And here it is for you early!

2025-08-18 12:45:06 +0000 UTC View PostMorning all!
I was meant to post this yesterday, but then I got my leg bitten off by a shark. It was SO awful!
I’m not entirely sure why, but we’ve fallen a bit behind with everything. Thus, Bubblegun will be late this week, we recorded a BYAMPOD in error (which, yes, for those who are interested in Sanja’s honest unfiltered reactions about the neo-prog band IQ, we will upload on Patreon), and I’ve still not gotten you the Nottingham outtakes or the last Bubblegun Extra we recorded. Leave it all with us. There never seems to be enough time to get everything done.
We’ll do a Biffo’s Brain this week. Possibly Thursday, but we’re also filming (yes – again!! See us go!) so it’ll depend on which day(s) we’re out and about. Will confirm as soon as we know.
The new video has done fine – kind of what we expected them to be getting when we started the new channel. Down somewhat from where they were before, but good in the context of the number of subs we have, and the fact we’re effectively brand new. Plus, we just feel so much clearer being away from Digi’s baggage, and that’s the main thing.
The big irony is… after all that fuss, I’m just enjoying doing lighter dicking around vids at the minute. We’re going to keep that vibe going over the remainder of summer where views are generally lower on YouTube anyway, and build up a solid foundation. The last three videos have been such a joy to film knowing they’ll be shown to subscribers who get us.
I honestly hadn’t realised how much where I was at had been reflected in our more serious output. We’re still planning big, epic, videos, but right now… it’s just a relief to be feeling lighter.
Talking of, we’re off on our next nonsense ghost hunt in a couple of weeks, joined by those of you who volunteered yourselves to be part of the night. No idea how that’s going to pan out, but if it’s anything like last year’s… well… That will be one of at least two ‘spooky’ specials we’ll have out for Halloween month. And, of course, we have our return to the live arena at Chunky Fringe on October 4th. Would love to know how many of you are planning to attend.
Anyway. Next vid. We’ve a couple of candidates. We thought we knew where we were going, and then… yesterday we stumbled upon an idea that’s too good not to do, but is going to take a couple of weeks to set up. So, we’ll put a pin in that while we wait for some stuff to arrive and we fire off a few emails.
And on that note… we need your help with it. Now… let’s say – hypothetically – we’re setting up our own country, and all of you are citizens of it…
Doesn’t matter how ridiculous or stupid they are. They can even be serious. But leave a comment below with your suggestions for what should be included in our new country’s constitution, and suggestions for a possible name for it.
My first thought was the Republic of Bifftopia, but that’s a bit egotistical… We'll try to include as many of them as possible in the video.

Yes, sorry - barely early access. But it's short enough that you might still get to watch it before bed.
Enjoy our day in Melton Mowbray, where we try very hard to find ways to make it interesting WITHOUT mentioning the pies. We fail. Of course it's all about the pies.
2025-08-14 20:39:12 +0000 UTC View PostEvening, all. New video is uploading now. Should be with you sometime after 9pm, and up for everyone else tomorrow.
Hilariously... I appear to have made myself ill by eating - quite literally - all the (pork) pies. I've had a gastritis flare-up the past couple of days! These are the sacrifices I make in the name of content!
Other than that, this is another easy, light-hearted, one - just easing everyone into the channel before we drop a phatboy. it's a break from our recent Britain's Most Boring City tours, and instead we seek to find out if there's more to Melton Mowbray than just pork pies and stilton.
Annoyingly, there are a couple of tiny editing errors - which you probably won't notice, but I don't have it in me to do it again. I also have to apologise, because I completely forgot to put in the Patron names. Sorry, gang. Next time. We'll get the top two tier names in the description if there's space. Told you I felt rough!
Lastly, we did record a BYAMPOD today, but with hindsight it wasn't really enough about Marillion. We might put it up as a Patreon exclusive though. So, that means we'll be skipping a week, as there's not time to re-do it, but - hey - given our return was unexpected, that's not the end of the world.
That's it for now. Video is on the way!

Just a quick one to say the event page is now up for Chunky Fringe. We owe David Walford, and all those exhibiting, a big thank you for putting on this entirely free event. And, also, for encouraging me out of my aversion to public performance and crowds over the past year.

Well, because I'm cursed apparently... we had (expensive) car trouble yesterday, and had to postpone our trip.
We're going Monday instead, and doing some filming nearer to home this week. But! It meant we had time to get BYAMPOD recorded. Sorry we didn't get this to you early, but it was all a bit last minute.
Blurb: This week, we take a trip back to the 80s, to ask why WERE Marillion lumped in with the likes of IQ, Pendragon, Pallas et al?! Also: we stumble upon a mystery Marillion single that I bet none of you have ever heard. Out now on all the podcast places!

Morning!
Out the other side of a thick chunk of script work at last. It has been a full-on few weeks. My fault for getting behind with things last month and in July, and having deadlines absolutely pile on top of one another. And then going away to film last week and now this weekend.
It’s a lovely feeling getting it done, but maaaaaan… it can be debilitating. I’ve always describe it as “brain squash”. It’s exactly how it feels: my brain literally feels compressed, so that I can’t even think straight. It even makes me feel off-balance physically. Always takes a few hours to recover usually. Sometimes even the next day I can still feel a bit… off.
I know. Probably isn’t healthy, but I don’t really know any way to work other than full-on. I find writing needs a degree of momentum, and breaking that to do something else can make it harder. Easier to just go flat-out, even from one project to the next. It’s faster in the long run.
I’m not sure we have time to get a BYAMPOD done this week. We know what the next couple of eps will be, and I’m back listening to Marillion again, so rest assured we’re not going away again. Bubblegun might be slightly late too next week, but you’ll still have it at some point on Monday. But! You will at least have a new video. And we WILL get you the Nottingham outtakes.
Quite by accident, we’re back in that area for the next video (might be the next two videos, if we have time to get a second one done). This is one we’ve wanted to do for a while. We were meant to be filming it last month, but we found out that the key place we wanted to visit was shut on Sundays, which is why we ended up in Lincoln.
Talking of, we’re re-uploading the Lincoln video to the new channel tomorrow. If you can find five seconds to comment, or play it in the background, it would be much appreciated. The Nottingham video has done far, far better than we expected for our first video, and we’d like to keep things rolling. The move has worked, and we’re definitely being pushed in front of new people, who are finding us for the first time.
The next few vids will keep the same light tone as the Nottingham day out, then we’re aiming to – finally – head a bit further afield for our next big one. Wales beckons, but we also want to get up to Scotland, down to the South West, and over to Northern Ireland (we hear you, Bea) at some point. And Newcastle! Never been to Newcastle, apart from a disastrous meeting just outside it a couple of years ago. I spilt an entire cup of coffee all over the table within a minute of arriving.
Oddly, I very nearly grew up there. There was a chance that my dad’s work was going to transfer him, and my parents did – briefly – look at houses in the area. Imagine me with a Geordie accent!
Right. I'll leave you alone now. Going to try to decompress a bit before I have to do a three hour drive.
We'll post pics!

Again, thanks for the lovely birthday messages yesterday. Sorry I'm behind replying to things. Up to my eyeballs clearing the decks so we can film this weekend.
BUT! Big news. Big big news.
Many of you will recall that running alongside previous Digi Lives we had Chunky Fringe - David Walford's kind of retro-tech fest thing, with a firm emphasis on all things Digi.
In lieu of an official Digi Live this year, David has VERY kindly decided to put on a standalone Chunky Fringe, in our usual home of Harrow Arts Centre.
It's happening on Saturday October 4th, kicking off at 2pm, with a full programme of talks and panels.
And - hey - Sanja and I are going to be there of course.
Chris Bell of Super Page 58 is hosting a panel with me entitled Digipedia: Biffo and Bellston’s Best of Digitiser, and Sanja and I are aiming to do a LIVE recording of the Bubblegun podcast. If you've listened to recent episodes, you'll know that literally anything could happen.
This is all confirmed. Further details to follow as I get them. David is very organised, so I'm sure there'll be a website up soon. But if you want to come... book hotels, travel, whatever - you can go ahead.
See you in October?
2025-08-06 11:21:06 +0000 UTC View PostThanks for the birthday messages.
So far, I have worked all morning. I didn’t mean to, but because we’re away Thursday/Friday, and because I am behind on EVERYTHING, I had no choice alas.
I thought I was done, then I got an email reminding me that there was something I’d completely forgotten to deliver. Nice to be busy, but still… also nice to have a life sometimes.
I did get some lovely gifts though. Some "slides", because Sanja is sick of my feet being dirty (she said there were feathers on them the other day), and lots of books, as is my way.
Among them is one we’ll probably discuss on the next BYAMPOD: A Playground of Brokenhearts – The Progressive Rock Revival 1984 – 1989. Takes me right back to my misspent youth. I also got a book on the history of Britain and Ireland, and one called Thing Explainer - which is excellent.
The real treat is The Book: The Ultimate Guide To Rebuilding Civilisation. It’s a big, thick, tome that acts as a sort of a multiversal guide to… well… everything you might need to restart the world. It’s full of gorgeous, Victorian-style illustrations of weird machines. Exactly the kind of book I’d have been obsessed with as a kid.
Such is the way of things now… I saw a comment on Reddit decrying its use of AI (in fact, it’s all hand-drawn – beautifully so; see below). See also the graphics I’ve been doing for our videos…
Right. Bunking off the rest of the day. Going to watch the new Jurassic Park finally, if I can, and have a bloody takeaway.

Morning! Hope you all had a lovely weekend.
As you’ll have seen, the latest Bubblegun is out now. This is mine and Sanja’s favourite episode so far. I generally don’t listen to them back outside of editing, but I’ve listened to this one three times. You are not ready for the boy called Knack-Knack…
New channel is off to a better start than expected. We thought we’d get around 1,000 views for the first video, but it’s actually more or less in line with what we had for the last couple on the Digitiser channel. Not bad for a video that’s just a kind of city guide thing. Also, subs are at nearly 1,700 which – again – is about four times what we expected at this stage.
I’m mentioning the views only because… well… we’ve both felt pretty kind of unwanted the last few years, and this year in particular. It’s just nice that there are a few more people than expected who are willing to watch us. Ultimately, the only metric we’re really caring about is that we’re on a channel where people are there to watch what we want to make – doesn’t matter how many there are, so long as they’re there for the right reasons. It makes all the difference, and we both feel like a weight has been lifted.
The comments we’ve had on the car video we put up on the Digi channel kind of confirmed everything we’d long suspected – that the audience was completely split down the middle. I did get exasperated over one comment on Saturday and go into over-explaining mode. He was being a little rude, but mainly it was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.
It has been a tough transition over the past couple of months, but feels like we’ve shifted the energy.
We’ll probably move the Lincoln video over to Paul and Sanja this week. We don’t expect you to watch it again, but if you were able to, I dunno, find thirty seconds to comment and have it play in the background while you’re doing something else, it might help. Upper tiers should have the outtakes video this week too, in which we take you on a geeky tour of one Nottingham street.
We’re filming again this weekend, so you should have another video next week. We’re back on the horsey big time.
We’re also only a month away from filming our Halloween special, which some of you are going to be a part of. Very excited about that! Thank you again to TJ for sorting it all out.
Oh! And just to say… sorry if you’ve commented on here and I haven’t replied. We’ve been juggling comments in about 20 different places over the last week. We’ve read and appreciated everything though. We’ll aim to be better!
Right. Need to crack on. It’s my birthday tomorrow so I want to take the day off, and then we’re away Friday, so got a lot to get done.
Thanks again, gang. And hello to the new Patrons!

Afternoon, all!
Well, we’re a bit… blown away, I guess. The new channel is closing in on 1,500 subscribers before we’ve even uploaded a video.
Honestly, we hadn’t expected that. We knew people watched us, but because of the way things have been… we didn’t actually feel that many Digi subscribers actually wanted to watch us. We were expecting maybe 400 or so subscribers would come over, and we’d have to build from that. But no. We’ve also lost a lot of subs on the Digi channel since the announcement, which again reaffirms we’re doing the right thing; we clearly have two completely different audiences.
Also, SO many comments that underlined we’re doing the right thing by ditching the Digi baggage for Paul And Sanja.
I do wish we’d taken this decision sooner, but it needed to be the right time. We’ve done it now at least.
It's going to be weird putting this up. We're not expecting the usual views, but if there's anything you can do to push it out... thank you. Commenting and watching in the next couple of days will give it a boost.
Also, I don’t know if this is just internal for me, but you’ve might’ve detected a shift in our content over the past month. I mean, we’ve got Bubblegun now, we’ve brought BYAMPOD back, we’re figuring out all the Digi/Paul And Sanja things. It really does feel like I’ve got my creativity back. Finally feel like I'm out of the tunnel.
And just to say, we’re both resisting the urge to share next week’s Bubblegun with you early. It’s our favourite episode so far. You are not ready...
Have a great weekend, everyone. And thank you for sticking with us.

We've decided to upload new videos for the public on Friday, as that was our original day of choice for new Digi videos (but Gannon panicked that it'd somehow impact Cheapshow).
Anyhow... here we go. Paul And Sanja's Big Fat Quest begins.
2025-07-30 18:53:33 +0000 UTC View PostG’evening, g'ang!
Hopefully you've seen that there's a new Bubblegun up featuring Third Bird. We were too busy filming yesterday to do a post. It's very silly.
Talking of yesterday... I’m now nervous, because - after all my fuss - we have filmed a very, very stupid video about Nottingham; all caves, gnomes, Robin Hood, and cool skateboarding moves (sans skateboard). Is it the right video to launch the new channel with? Heck knows. But we had a fun day. There'll be a lot of outtakes.
Though I didn't find out until we got back last night, after he commented on my Instagram, we were spotted by a viewer! He served us in a cafe though apparently didn't recognise us at first. We feel so under everyone's radar on the whole that it always puts a smile on our face when we encounter one of you in the wild. Should it happen, never feel you can't say hello, because it kind of makes our day.
I’m just waiting on Sanja to finish transferring the footage, then I’ll get the new video edited. It shouldn’t take too long, and you should have it this week. Along with another BYAMPOD and Bubblegun!
Are we spoiling you? Yes. Yes, we are spoiling you. Oh and yeah – there should be an Upper Tiers Bubblegun Extra with a couple of new film reviews, as some of you seem to enjoy those, and a special video edition of Writer’s Club (hopefully, if I can fit it in around earning a living).
See? Spoiling you.

In other news, day job work was slightly held up this morning because our eldest grandson wanted to Facetime with us.
We’re going through a lovely phase with him; he has just been through a bit of a shy and unsociable stage, but now he asks to call us and just watches Sanja and I like we’re a TV show. Big smile when he sees us. Love this age.
I mean, part of it is because he’s gotten into Transformers, and he likes watching us attempt to transform the only two Transformers we own (thank you to Bea for one of them). He Facetimed the other day to show me his new Batman figure and then watched me drawing Batman on the iPad for the best part of an hour.
For a long time he was obsessed with nothing but tractors. Literally obsessed. I mean, from the moment he could talk he could tell you things about harvesting crops that I’m pretty sure some farmers wouldn’t know. His other grandad is a farmer, so he’s had that influence from the day he was born. Tractors and that are cool, but - as you might expect - to finally see him show a flicker of interest in the geeky stuff that Sanja and I are more at home with, is an important moment!
His younger brother Otto is too young to really be into anything other than biting people and eating (not eating people), but he’s kind of painfully soap-advert-cute. Can’t talk yet, but he blew us a kiss and waved goodbye earlier.
Sorry if this is all too mushy, but they make me melt. Obviously I love Sanja and all my kids to bits, but there’s something so pure about having grandchildren. It’s a brand new sort of love that I’ve not really experienced before, probably because I’m just that one step or two removed from having the actual hands-on responsibility of raising them. I think about them CONSTANTLY and would spend every hour with them if I could. I had it for my grandparents – my maternal granddad in particular.
I know the day will come when they’ll have more important and interesting things to do than hang out with us. It happened with me and my grandad, and I still regret I didn’t make more of the time he was here. I was so lucky to have had him in my life, and I hope that Bruce and Otto feel the same way when they're my age.
Anyway. Sorry to gush. Just been really enjoying the time we've had with them lately.
Should our YouTube videos still be online when he's older, I've no idea what they'll make of them. If he knew that only yesterday I was crouched in the corner of a cemetery carpark putting on a pair of green tights...
Talking of... Sanja's just handed me the hard drive with the transferred footage on it.
I'm going in!

We made a last-minute decision to save the video we were going to make for when we go to Wales (where it was originally conceived for). Which means you won't find out the contents of the Quantum Box just yet...
We thought a better start to the new channel would be a second instalment of Britain's Most Boring Cities. You know: something more dignified.
It'll be with you this week, hopefully.

Off to film… Bought Sanja a gift… or did I???
2025-07-27 10:48:39 +0000 UTC View PostThe second ep of Digi Level 2 has been re-uploaded to the main Digitiser channel if you fancy a re-watch.
We’re filming on Sunday and Monday for the new channel. At last! Time to get this ball rolling.
Though... man, this video has been a tough one to a) Schedule, and b) Wrap my head around enough to present it in a way that is accessible and fun. Think we’ve got there now. It’s going to be nuts: gnomes, VR, and Robin Hood. And, ironically, as I said on Biffo’s Brain the other night… despite us trying to have a fresh start, the video kicks off with a trip to somewhere I last visited in 1994 with Digitiser.
We were originally meant to be filming this in Wales, and instead we’ll be in Nottinghamshire… so it might not quite have the same sense of scale visually, but in terms of the core idea it’s the biggest thing we’ve ever dealt with. It feels like a good statement of intent; big idea, bit of history, bit of ridiculous Forteana, but all building towards why it matters today.
Elsewhere, BYAMPOD ep 141 just dropped for everyone, then on Monday there’s a treat for your ears in the form of the next ep of Bubblegun – which features the return of Third Bird. Also, another SURPRISE character shows up to teach Sanja a lesson.
It feels like I’m finally starting to get my mojo back, which is a relief. It's still feeling a bit like I’m walking on ice that I’m not sure will support my weight, but I'm steadily making it across the lake.
You may recall plans we had some time back for a brand new edition of The Man’s Daddy’s Joke Book. I’ve resumed writing it – I want it to be at least a third all-new material – with a view to putting it up for pre-order once we’ve finished the Digi Level 2 rewards. We’re also considering doing some other new merch as well, selling directly rather than through Redbubble. If there's anything you'd like, let us know and we'll see what we can do.
Righty. We'll post up some photos from filming once we have some, but if I don't speak to you before, hope you all have a splendid weekend.
Paul
