When the Han SSN sails on the surface, the underwater toilet cannot be used. Only the water surface toilet on the side of the control tower can be used. A crewman must ask permission to use the toilet, "Bridge! I want to be convenient (relieved)." (Chinese to English translation is best guess)

The first HAN SSN began sea trials in the Yellow Sea in the mid 1970's. We had assets in place to observe her testing. The Yellow Sea is very busy with fishing trawlers and coastal merchants running up and down the coast. This made finding her difficult, not because she was quiet but because she was just as loud as the merchant ships.

China's first nuclear submarine, Type 091 hull shape was modeled after Kenner's 1965 toy submarine. This saved Hydrodynamic testing and development time. Source: Huang Xuhua, Chief Designer

Mao Zedong said "China will have a nuclear submarine even if it takes 1000 years!" after the USS Nautilus successfully sailed from the Atlantic to Pacific and back again.
This will take about a week to produce.

Orange segments are exercise or training segments. In this case, that is the warhead segment. The rest of the body is a warshot. This is typical for war games and torpedo exercises.

It's a combination of Kilo II and Japan's Soryu. Interesting Hybrid design. The difficult thing about China's Navy is I haven't found reliable sources. If anyone has a recommend source that discuss China's ships and submarines, leave it in the comments. Thanks.

RDP has no mechanical link to the engine room of a submarine. A nuclear powered or electric submarine powers the motor that is housed in the sheath of a pump jet. The electric drive has no mechanical link, just an energy field turns the propeller without a shaft.
