What do you think of Septem so far?

Now that we're in so deep and most of the players have been shown, what's your opinion of the Singularity as a whole?

If you want to expand upon your choice in the poll, please leave a comment down below explaining why you voted the way you did.

(CiP)[FRW] Chapter 13

Still mulling over title options. Not sure yet what to call it.

(CiP)[Hereafter] Chapter LIV: Court Mage

Don't forget your mountain-climbing gear.

EDIT: A certain someone chewed too much of the scenery, so this ballooned and the actual journey to Mount Etna will be next chapter. As a result, I decided to change the name.

[Hereafter] Interlude A I: A Genius of Hard Work

Is that a Naruto reference? That's a Naruto reference. Kinda.

This chapter will actually make a lot more sense when it's read immediately before next chapter, or at least the very beginning and end of it will. I won't be surprised if you guys come to the correct conclusion anyway.

For now, though, have some of Aífe's backstory and a look into her head. Yes, I kept the ages in the first part kind of vague, but only because the timeline is really tight for how things have ...

Not entirely sure this will be the next chapter, need to discuss it with the editing team, but it's going to wind up somewhere in the rotation, so I'll put this out there.

[Hereafter] Chapter LIII: Caput Mundi

(Special translation: "Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream!")

But if you read really closely, you can hear what Fou is really trying to say to Taylor at the end, there.

If this chapter had you laughing and/or smiling at any point, then I succeeded. Also, Nero's boobs are filled with helium — headcanon confirmed.

EDIT: Down all the way.

[Hereafter Material] Florent Sanglant [Noble Phantasm]

Florent Sanglant [Noble Phantasm]
Blossoms of the Bloody Flower

The secondary Noble Phantasm of Lucius Tiberius.

Owed to his legend of gathering together every magical beast remaining on the European continent, this Noble Phantasm is a corruption of the blessing of the goddess of flowers that allows him to “spawn” them and form an army of Phantasmal creatures to fight at his beck and call. Although their performance is lesser than it might have been while h...

Florent Cruentus [Noble Phantasm]
Blooming Blood-stained Flower

The Noble Phantasm of Lucius Tiberius Caesar. The form of the tainted holy sword that is sibling to Clarent, a symbol of the owner’s rule over the people of the European continent. A beautiful, resplendent weapon worthy of awe.

As the last emperor of the Western Roman Empire, Lucius Tiberius ruled with an iron fist and a strong will, and he dyed the plains of his empire red with the blood of his ...

[FRW] Chapter 12: Prognosis II

Whew. What is it with FRW and Hereafter's chapters getting larger and larger all the time?

In any case, we're reaching the end of the setup chapters, and soon enough, I'll be using some more short timeskips to push things ahead a little further. That's how a training montage works in a written story, right?

Funny story, I really was all set to trace back names for all of the feats using my mediocre skill in Old Irish, and then I remembered that the translation I have for The C...

"Mac Anu."

No, but really, Rome. Finally, over ten chapters in, we're getting to Rome itself. Septem has really kind of ballooned, but I think we're about two thirds of the way through now. The pace should definitely pick up after they visit Mount Etna.

For now, though, have a bit of fluff, a bit of bonding, and a bit of Nero being Nero. And Rika being Rika. And Aífe holding a little bit of a grudge. Against who? Well, I'm not telling.

EDIT: Down, down, down...

Tohsaka Twins

Was playing around with Artbreeder yesterday and decided to take a shot at making the twins.

Yukio winds up looking a little more Japanese than he was meant to, but I'm generally pretty satisfied with the results.

Ferrea Voluntate Scaeva [Noble Phantasm]
My Sword is Sharpest When Dull

A cumulative Noble Phantasm. A combined strike that gathers power over time and unleashes it in a single, devastating blow.

Derived from the legend of his holding action during Gaius Julius Caesar’s war with Pompey, this is a Noble Phantasm that grows more powerful the longer it is kept in reserve. The longer Scaeva can hold out in a battle, the more powerful this Noble Phantasm becomes.<...

Pax Romana [Noble Phantasm]
Let There Be Peace Throughout the Empire

The signature Noble Phantasm of Constantine the Great.

Representing his achievement of establishing and ruling over the Roman Empire in one of its most stable and peaceful eras, it is a powerful Noble Phantasm that replicates those effects on any area that has been determined as “his territory.”

That is, so long as the battle occurs within the space of Constantine’s dominion, it is...

Marcus Cassius Scaeva [Heroic Spirit]
The Left Hand of Caesar

The most trusted subordinate of Gaius Julius Caesar.

A soldier who served under him during early campaigns into Britain, Scaeva distinguished himself in battle against the Celtic tribes, but was forced to retreat in shame. Instead of condemnation, however, Caesar rewarded him, and from there began their relationship, forming the beginnings of a bond of loyalty.

[FRW] Chapter 11: Prognosis I

I wish I could give this enough focus to have chapters for it out more frequently, but Hereafter has just been consuming so much more of my attention.

In any case, there was so much infodumping the last few chapters, so now we can finally start moving forward again. I actually went back at the suggestion of my editing team and added another 700-ish words to this chapter, adding some flair and flourish and a little more emotion here and there.

Honestly, I'm a little impatient to ge...

Wrote about 3000 words today. 2500 or so went into the next chapter of FRW, so expect to see chapter 11 of that sometime in the next day or so.

Finally, we can get to Rome itself. I hope.

[Hereafter] Chapter LI: The Mad Emperor

Relaxed a little over Easter this last weekend (April 17th), so this is a few days later and a little shorter than usual.

I confess, I wasn't super confident about how this chapter ended. The rest of it, however, I'm very pleased with. I think it turned out really good, and I hope everyone enjoys it, including some of the hints and implications and plot threads that got established here.

Also, who on the design team decided that Caligula had Herakles tier Strength? For th...

[Hereafter] Chapter L: Honored Uncle

I could have had the whole team sit down and dialogue their way through planning out the trip from will-one-day-be-Thiers to Rome, but it felt like it would be bloated and unnecessary, so I just had Taylor summarize a lot of it. It would not, in some ways, be wrong to call this chapter filler, in the sense that it doesn't really do all that many important things for the plot, but it has to be here so that the pacing doesn't get weirder than it already is.

Some of the interactions in her...

[Hereafter] Chapter XLIX: Romeward Bound

Rika and Nero getting along really is a scary thought.

Like with this chapter, things are going to be fairly mild for the next few chapters. Lots of setup, lots of character interaction, but not much in the way of fighting, since things are moving away from the Gallian front.

And once you see that moment... It can be easy to forget, but this story is just as much about Taylor learning how to save herself as it is her saving the world (again).

I'm not sure I can dare presume ...

[Hereafter] Chapter XLVIII: Conscription

An extra long chapter to make up for it being extra late.

This gave me some difficulty, not the least of which because I'm still getting a handle on Nero's personality. That's why it started late, and why it took longer to finish than I would have liked.

You can thank the editing team for that ending, though. "Haven't things been grim and dour for a lot of the most recent chapters? This one should be funny and light," was basically how that conversation went. What you saw was actu...

Taylor is such a munchkin, isn't she?

Well, here we go, moving things forward a bit. There's some downtime, some lessons learned, a short heart to heart, and the explanation for why no, Taylor and the twins will not be pulling off ridiculous Celtic kung fu and matching fists with Servants.

Although, strictly speaking, Sca could have taught Ritsuka that in canon. Setanta proves that a specific Celtic martial arts form exists in Nasu, even if the name chosen for it was pathetic and ...

[Hereafter] Chapter XLVI: A Flesh Wound

Originally, this chapter was going to focus a lot more on the titular "flesh wound," but, well, the characters got to talking, and they filled up 3500 words before I knew it, so I went, "Yeah, let's let them keep going until they've covered everything they need to cover." By that point, the titular wound had almost been pushed entirely out of the chapter.

Good trouble to have, I think.

Constantine's Noble Phantasm really is quite bullshit, though. I mean, it's appropriate, b...
