Snake Sees Fox Complete

Another small shot that's needlessly taken me about 100 years to finish. First I wasn't satisfied with the cloud break up, then it was Snake's reaction which was originally a bit too expressive. But I think I've finally got it down to something I like... for now. Something I've had to realize and admit to myself - I'm too much of a perfectionist to a fault.

I've also attached a previous shot I mentioned in my last post which I wanted to fix, which was just a single frame, the fir...

WallCollapsing Complete

I'm going to be a broken record, but sorry this one took so long. I fear I'm suffering from burn out, but I'm going to keep fighting through it due to the support from all of you.

A previous shot, the closeup of Gray Fox turning to the camera, I'm thinking I will go back and reanimate that shot as I'm unhappy with it. Just something doesn't seem right, especially because when I was working on it I was forcing myself to do it and I feel the results have suffered from it. I will not be charging ...

Wall Collapse WIP 3

Finally animated Snake busting the wall down... now to finish it off with Fox's reaction. Hopefully I can get that done this week.

Edit: Added three more frames at the end.

Wall Collapse WIP 2

So as usual, apologies for nothing complete this past month. Same excuses; life. I was having trouble with this shot, not just the actual wall collapsing, but Snake himself. I've uploaded two attachments, one with how Snake was originally going to animate once the wall fell and a final version. The original version I became so frustrated with how it didn't look right that I lost motivation with the project for a bit, making it not only harder to come up with the somewhat simplified final version...

Wall Collapse WIP

I've been having trouble with exactly how this wall will collapse as the previous shot ends with Snake's fist lodged in the wall and nothing else. I may cut halfway through his fist smashing through then have the entire wall come tumbling down right as we enter this shot.

I'm desperately trying to get my mindset back on the project as my job and personal life have distanced me away from it. I won't give up on it, sorry it's taking so goddamn long.

Wall Fist complete

This took a little longer to finish without that much added from the last post because I wanted Snake's hand to go back through like I said, but it ended up not looking right so I left it out. Instead we'll move onto the next shot from Fox's point of view where Snake will finally meet him.

Wall Fist WIP

Apologies for the lack in updates, I'm slowly getting back on the ball these past couple of days but we're not out of the woods yet with this shot. After the debris has fallen Snake will pull his fist back through the hole, look through the hole, then the wall will collapse which will work as the transition to the next shot. Let's do this.

Fox Closeup Complete

Finally got this tiny shot finished. I won't lie, I've been barely working on the project as of late. A co-worker left my job and now I've had to take on their work which means more hours and less time for this project. I've also been feeling depressed lately, unfulfilled, uncertain of the future and what I'm doing with my life which has affected my work flow.

So I apologize if this thing is taking longer than it should. Anyway, onto the next shot.

Fox Closeup

Now to animate him in reverse turning his head away from camera, then to draw the background in. Let's go.

Fox Reaction Complete

Just a short shot for this one. Now for Fox's close up as he stares at the wall in anticipation as to what's behind it...

Fox Reaction 2

This one has taken a bit longer because the original version of the shot (attached) didn't really convey what I wanted so I went back to make Fox a little clearer from this angle. Still need to draw the background and animate a crack on the wall appearing to the left side of the screen then we can move on.

Fox Sit Up Complete

So... contrary to my previous post I got this finished two days later. I have to step up my game. Anywho, next shot will be from over Fox's right shoulder as he reacts to the sound of Snake beating on the wall to his left prompting yet another reaction.

Fox Cell

First off, want to say thanks for the positive feedback in the previous post, I'm slowly pulling myself back from the dead, it's all part of the creative process I suppose. So with this shot I started with something else but felt that the previous version as a composition felt flat and plain. I've added what Gray Fox looked like in that shot but no background as I ended up never completing it.

This will be a reaction shot of Gray Fox having his body slumped forward and then quickly popping up ...

Project Update

Just want to yet again apologize for the lack of updates with the latest shot. Yet again work has given myself little time for the project, plus I've been at a loss with the current shot and have decided to scrap it and go straight to the reveal of Gray Fox reacting to Snake breaking through the wall to his cell. I won't be able to start on this until Thursday as I have deadlines until then.

Again I'm sorry for the lack of updates. I've been receiving a lot of enthusiastic feedback about the p...

Wall Inspection Background

Now to animate Snake into the shot tapping on the wall and listening for any hollow points, then throwing his arm back to take it down.

Prison Wall Crack

Another insert static shot close up on the wall before we move onto the longer shot of Snake inspecting then taking out the wall itself.

Snake Looking At Wall Complete

Sorry for taking so long with this one, my day job has put extra pressure on me lately with work so unfortunately this hasn't been top priority meaning my time's been restricted.

Just had a patron cancel their pledge due to a lack of engagement on my part, so I'm wondering... how do you want me to engage with you? I don't have much to offer other than just working on the project when I can. If you feel as though your pledge is being wasted on me I completely understand because, let's be ...

Snake Looking at Wall

Wasn't sure what to call this. Still need to have him moving his eyes up and turning his head and little more toward the camera, as well as draw in the background. Another small shot.

Snake Sit Up Complete

Sorry for taking so long with an update. As mentioned in the previous post I was having some artists block and unfortunately it began to ramp up making it difficult to continue. Which is funny when you consider how innocuous this shot is, not much happens, but maybe in its mundanity I became... bored for a lack of a better term? I dunno.

As you see a bit of the wall chips off, the next shot will carry over from that with a reaction from Snake as he turns to then notice the giant crack, c...

Snake Sit Up Continued

Apologies for the lack of updates, work has had me busy and I've also suffered a bit of art block but I've gotten through it. Had trouble trying to get this to look decent, I may have mentioned it in the past but sometimes the most simple movement can be the most complex due the subtlety of every body part working together in unison. I'm thinking of having Snake look around the room a bit and even go to reach for his microphone only to realize it isn't there, followed by a piece of the prison wa...

Snake Sit Up

Now to animate him in reverse lying back down therefore having him sit up when played forward. Afterward I need him to look around the room until he notices the crack in the wall to his right. Well, enough talking about it and time to actually do it, instead.

Snake Eyes Closeup Complete

Now to a longer shot, where Snake will sit up and after looking around not knowing what to do, a little surprise will occur.

Now to animate them slowly opening.

Prison Cell Complete

Still image for this shot. When it comes to sound design I want the sound of a prison door slowly slamming to transition from the previous shot and crescendoing into this one. Next shot will be a close up on Snake's eyes and he comes to.

Prison Cell WIP

Actually struggled with how to introduce this scene as I couldn't figure out  what angle to go with, the size of the cell (because it's pretty big in the original game), the colours and what detail should it have as it's simply a dark green room and most prison cell interiors are devoid of colour variation or patterns. In fact the crates probably shouldn't be there but for the sake of visual information and consistency I'm gonna leave'em in.

The shot will begin with the cell do...

Broken Nose Soldier

Just a still without animation for this shot. Was contemplating on an eyebrow raise but I think the stark image of his face will suffice. Now to Snake dropping into his prison cell.

View Post

Gun to Snake Complete

Now for the close up on the soldiers bloody face to finish off this whole damn scene. Hopefully back in a bit.

View Post

Gun to Snake

Originally I was going to have the shot from the point of view of the soldier pointing the barrel at Snake but I just couldn't get the angle right so I opted for something a little more straight forward. Basically the barrell will quickly point to Snake's head and Snake will quickly turn to first look at the barrell then look upward with an eyebrow raise before we get a close up shot of the soldier.

View Post

Snake Captured Complete

Nearly finished with this capture sequence, the next two shots will be a close up first on Snake as the left Soldier points his barrell at him and then a close up of said Soldier, showcasing his bloody broken nose as he glares at the Snake. Onto it.
