UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 522 - Take it All

Zisathass stared at him.

“I said, take it.”

“I heard what you said,” the lizard replied, his voice gruff and harsher. “You do realize that when I take the experience and levels, you will also lose all the stats you have gained from them.”

Chuckling again, Max shrugged.

“So be it. I’m ready. Stop stalling and take it.”

Zisathass frowned, tapping a talon against his scaled chin.

“Are you certain? I think you do not understand how much this...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 521 - The Fourth Piece

“Another artifact piece?” Fowl asked. “All you need is one more now!”

“One more?! He has three?!” Tanila exclaimed. “How… I mean… never mind, of course Max has three.”

Max couldn’t help but stare at the black piece in his hand.  It vibrated, almost as if it sensed that he had three more stored in his dimensional space.

“It’s a shame you don’t have another,” their ranger continued. “Every elf knows the legends of what those could create.â€...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 520a - God Games

“There are more here than I had expected,” Wekime said as he watched the line of gods moving toward the room with the watchers. “How long has it been since such a thing occurred?”

Hogroothu said nothing for a moment, his sight set upon the dozen gods still waiting to enter, each shrouded in a cloak that hid their presence.

“Ages… this one has stirred up the game in a way I hadn’t imagined possible in so long. We both know why it has happened. That fool of a youngling...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 520 - Conversations with Chromie

“You five have reached the last stage of the tower.  Know that so few reach this point and those that do, some stop right here, choosing not to go further.”

“Wait, tower climbers, stop? Even coming this far?”

Their host nodded his shiny head slowly at their healer.

“Yes. I will explain why in a moment, but know that with your accomplishment comes many rewards.  All five of you have now reached the first tier in your stats. That milestone is not one most b...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 519 - Leading is Hard

Max patted his sister’s knee and squeezed it.

“Welcome to the hardest part of being the warrior,” he said softly. “Loss is… hard.”

Stacy nodded, taking a deep breath and letting it out.

“It’s my fault. I pushed them too hard.”

“Do they blame you?”

She shook her head. “No. I mean, not to my face at least, but I can see it in their eyes. They hem and haw about whether we should go into a dungeon. They're scared, and I’m unsure if it's the ...

Max watched as his three friends stared at the pulsing yellow gem in his hand.

I am glad that this is bound. You need to use this. Every other time, you have given away the tower rewards. This one is different. You can feel it.

I can… but do we really need any more abilities or–

We do not know what it grants.  You could be giving away something of enormous power.  Think about what has been acquired so far.  It would appear...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 517 - Loot Time

Fowl’s hand trembled as he held a sun-colored potion. It glowed in his hands, and everyone was silent, shocked at what they saw.

“Is that… really one of them?” Cordellia whispered.

“Yeah… I… I didn’t expect this,” their warrior replied, his voice almost unable to be heard. “One is unheard of in the lifetime of an adventurer. But two?”

“Well, stop standing around and drink it,” Max said, patting his friend on the shoulder. “Let’s see what you get...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 516 - Praying Something Works

Max grunted as the boss let out a salvo of attacks, the giant sword moving so fast it was almost a blur for even him.

Twice now the barrier had broken, his shield stopping the attack as it rained down strikes that would crush most people.

Another attack came, and as the blade was about to connect with the bone shield, the image of the boss blurred, its weapon passing through his defenses.

The golem’s blade passed through his torso, cutting him in half.

“So… it appears you’re a master not only at fighting but also at trading,” Sog’thollech said. “Tell me, Max, is there anything you’re not good at?”

“Being humble,” Fowl interjected, causing everyone to laugh.

“Thanks again,” Max said as he shook his head. “I couldn’t have done what I did without your help.”

Snorting, the demon shook his head as a portal appeared behind him.

“We all know that’s a lie. After you bamboozled that imp and h...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 514 - Shopping for Something

The sounds of so many people talking filled Max’s ears as his sonar revealed nothing beyond the noise.

When his eyes finally worked, he felt himself straighten. He saw a large corridor made of purple-worked stone similar to his dimensional space that ran for half a mile.

At its end was a portal, but all along the walls were what appeared to be shops with tents and overhangs, each filled with items and different beings shouting out and talking to others who perused the good...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 513 - Some Things are Hard

[ Heaven’s Storm ]

His mana pool felt the loss immediately as the storm that hadn’t dissipated above the boss grew darker and the air became noticeably colder.

Thunder rang out, matching the sound of the boss’s steps, right before bolts of blue lightning descended upon the insect.

Max could feel the electricity in the air, and his vision had afterimages of light. He tried to watch and not stare at the destruction being rained down upon the boss.

The storm assault...

Max laughed as Tanila let out a groan.

“Hey, share the bed!”

“Please,” she replied as her arms and legs reached out to the four corners, taking up most of the mattress. “You try carrying a child and see how well you sleep. Especially when they decide to dance all night long.”

Sitting up, Max leaned over and kissed her bare stomach where their child was causing her skin to occasionally rise from its movements.

“Be kind to your mother, little one. ...

Weekly update

Hey all - I wanted to give a quick update on everything going on with writing and life.

So first - thanks to all who reached out and prayed. I'm going to share some heavy stuff that is starting to get better but isn't there just yet.

Obviously it's a bit private and personal but I'm a believer in sharing things like this only to help others who might get caught in it also or know someone.

Many years ago when one of my sons was 15, an older girl did things phy...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 511 - Wedding Day

Standing on a platform raised in the Colosseum, Max tried to understand how everything had come together so quickly.

All around him were flower garlands, strung together and covering the open area as a canopy from the sun.

Each seat was packed, and one’s station in life didn’t matter as a lottery was conducted, giving everyone an equal chance to attend such a moment. Pauper and noble sat shoulder to shoulder, and none complained as each person watched in anticipation of a wedd...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 509a - Plans Working Out

The two laughed, hugging each other in a rare exchange of public emotion.

Hundreds of other gods had left, and the truth was that many small groups huddled in different places, discussing moves to make based on the council's decision.

“She screwed up far more than we could have hoped! The webs we laid finally trapped her!”

A shake of the head was all her cloaked friend gave.

“No… she is not trapped yet and it appears you were right after all this time. This Max...

A rush of power flowed through him, and Max felt pain as magical energy washed over him.

You… did it. For a moment… in that domain… his control was more than I had anticipated.

Bob’s voice was strong, and it helped Max through the pain he was feeling right now.

His sonar showed him how he looked. A monster to any who saw him, his body cracked and broken, the only flesh there was what grew back.

Bones were forming, having shattered under the effects of the cold he had experienced.

Savantus grew even larger as his body rejoined.

Easily twenty-five feet tall, everything about the elf also transformed.

His skin became black, his gold eyes and hair turned red, and claws, like those of a predatory beast, formed upon his fingertips.

“Someone worthy of this… imagine that. She said you were strong… but I didn’t believe her till now.”

His laughter echoed off the half-mile-wide dome, every inch covered in blood.

Every spell Bob sent continued to be deflected by a barrier that surrounded Savantus on every side, at least five yards around the elf.

Getting in close had failed when at least a hundred blood spikes went...

UL1 Book 9 - Chapter 504 - Making a Statement

Shouts continued coming from the halted army as Max sat on the throne he had set up in the field.

He easily summoned stones from under the ground, creating a base over ten feet tall. It attached itself to the throne he had taken from Mylho Alora and used it as a seat.

All around him, the ground was covered in arrows, almost like someone had planted them in hopes that more would grow.

Holding the gem Everett had given him close to his lips, Max channeled a slight amount of ma...
