Oh... I think I forgot to mention that the last image was a WiP. I'll be coloring this one and making it look good. I made some changes here - most notably to King, to exaggerate his reaction. Still not sure about the thought balloon. I like it, but I don't know if it's totally necessary or not. Guess we'll see what happens when we start coloring!

Page 39 Process (steps and write-up)

Page 39 is what you might call an moment of improvisation. As I’ve mentioned before, things are going *slightly* off-script. The script, of course, still serves as the basis, and provides direction, but little things change as I take advantage of opportunities along the way. This page took a long time, but here it is. Figuring out how to do the curvilinear (fish-eye) perspective, and what I wanted with the four panels below took some finagling, but I'll have a full write up on the process for the higher tier, plus another character image before the month's end.

Progress was slow this week, but we're getting there. 

On that note, I'm officially a crazy person... Curvilinear perspective is no joke, and I can't believe I went full on with this background. There were a few reasons. For starters, we haven't had a full character-background shot in a while, and making sure you see shots like these help to ground the reader and remind them there is a place (I think anyways). The fish-eye perspective also helps give you a greater sense of Marvin's...

Working on some structural lay-in stuff! For this page I wanted to have a big wide shot of Marvin testing out his strength as he lifts Billy up into the air while the girls continue to work him. I'm a bit of a stickler for proportion and placement (much to my detriment), and managing a scene with multiple characters is no easy task. So it's taken a few revisions to get here. Page 34 Wip and Page Analysis

This page is quite a doozy and has taken some time to figure out, but I think I’ve finally got a handle on it. I’ll break it down here and describe what we're looking at. In the previous page we saw a shadowy figure present Marvin with a tantalizing offer. At the beginning of this page we find him ever resistant. “No!” he cries in the top panel, “I- I need to study for the chemistry exam!”, looking away from the shadow's influence.

Screen Tone Tutorial

Here's a tutorial covering some of the toning techniques I've used on recent pages. In it, I talk about how to achieve darker tones and some tips to keep the patterns looking nice. It's a bit technical and may require some knowledge of Clip Studio, but I figured plenty of you would be into this even if only for curiosity sake... and hopefully it may be helpful to a few of you :)

It wasn't obvious to her whether Mr. Thornton was entering the closet or just peeking inside... so I darkened the room to reinforce that the feeling that he is retreating into the closet (and pulling the door behind him).
