A Welcome!

Welcome! For you new members and maybe a few of you that have been around a little longer, here's kind of how this place works, reprinted from an earlier post:

First and foremost, I wear two hats. I have two "day jobs"- a machinist and small-time manufacturer by day, and cartoonist by night. (I have the cape and everything!) So traffic here is part of both- mostly extra art, but as I've gotten into making simple videos of the machine shop stuff, there's some of that, too. I know some of...

The Pirta Pinup

From Wednesday's filler comic. As I said, I'd been meaning to clean this up into a good pin-up for... well, a very long time.

I needed a break from a wild week- several weeks, really- in the shop, and we haven't had  any really good cheesecake in a while, so here y'go! Hope you like it, I thought it came out well.

At least, I'd like to think so. :)

Lemme know what you think. There's a couple of not-all-that-hidden Easter eggs in there for ya, too.

The new Mrs. Roger

Made a few changes, and will probably make a few more, but already quite a bit better than the first "Roger in Drag" attempt. :)

I reserve the right....

To continue to tweak Mrs. Roger's character design.:)

I tried a more human/shapely shape like Sandy and Pirta, but it didn't look right with what was basically Roger's head. Change the head to better fit the shapely body, and she no longer looks like the same kind of raccoon as Roger.

But give 'er the same body style and... well, she looks like Roger in a wig.

The proportions work a little better in a swimsuit, but that head and hair... I dunno. It took me a while to get Car...

Wednesday, high-rez

By request, the third panel of Wednesday's strip, in higher resolution and without dialogue. (And a few other minor changes.)

Still not happy with Swamps' torso, but I'm workin' on it. :)

Wednesday, just in case...

So far we've had two glitches this week- Monday's was my fault by mistyping a file name, and Tuesday's was some unknown. Just in case there's another for Wednesday (and because I'm pretty happy with how the third panel came out :) here's that next strip.

Expect a lot more experimenting in the next couple of weeks, trying to draw the guys. I've never tried to draw a toned male before, and it'll take me a bit of practice before they'll probably look right.

Picked the wrong week to quit Inkin'!

Sorry, ladies and gents, and anything in between,  but it's looking like this may stretch out into a filler week.

I'd  hoped for just Monday, possibly Tuesday, but I kind of dug myself a  hole in the shop (metaphorically, not literally :) and if I can keep this  momentum up for a couple more days- depending on who wins this tug of  war between my heart and the caffeine- I can have my tables largely  cleared by the weekend, give or take.

At wh...

A video and a favor to ask....!

For those of you who are into both the shop stuff and paintball, here's a video from this weekend, of a little project that's been taking up some of my time. :D

And for those of you that aren't paintballers... that thing's only supposed to have one barrel. :)

And, I'd like to ask a favor of you ladies and gentlemen.  Kathy Garrison, the author of Carry On, would very much...

ATTWBCVA #1!

I hope you all are enjoying this week's stunning and colorful art in the comics! I spent a lot of time and sweat on them, I hope it shows! :D

While we're waiting for the lights to come back on, I thought we'd try another AMA- or rather Ask The TWB Cast Virtually Anything! :)

I know a ton of questions got asked last time, that we never managed to get to, so feel free to either ask ...

Caption it yourself!

Had a hot day in the shop, got a fun project done for a client, but got back in from the shop late and I'm pretty fried. Basically totally blanked on a proper comic,  figured I could use Radar for a quick filler.

Aaaand... the first idea I had for a caption wasn't much better than "gosh, I'm lost!" And it took way too long to wake up my humor lobe, get some coffee into it, and get it to spit  out today's kinda lame gag.

I should be back to whatever passes for normal afte...

Quick Book Sketch #1

I have a stash of sketches from the last two book runs- that is, photos of the sketches I drew in the books- and I've been meaning to at the very least clean up and color a few of them. I've been needing to take a bit of an 'art break' the past couple of days, so I dusted the first of them off and here we are.

More on the way. :D

Happy New Year, and Fair Warning....! (Re-Updated)

Thanks to yet another ferocious windstorm last night, I have a dead tree hanging across my powerline at the moment.

Power's  still on, and it's a dry tree, so it hasn't shorted yet, but it's still  a little on the windy side so anything can happen. At the very least I  expect if/when the crews come to take it down, they'll disconnect power  at the street, first.

It shouldn't affect finishing and uploading Monday's comic, but it could. ...

Now's your chance!

For a scene in this coming week's storyline, I may want to use Roger's full name.

I have never really thought about it, and it's never really been necessary, but just for part of a gag, it'd be fun. Especially if it's faintly ridiculous, like his middle name's Aloysius, or something. (Though I'd want something a little less likely to be mispronounced. :) )

Kind of like the character "Bull" Shannon from the old TV show Night Court, whose real name (only used in one episode...

That's it, ladies and gentlemen!

As of the last two orders going out today or tomorrow, I am, only for the moment, officially out of books!

Not completely, but there's some pretty big holes in the collection. :) I'll have to spend some time, although not 'til probably well after the first of the year, building the ol' inventory back up, and at some point rework the stores so you all are finally able to order singles if you'd like.

As always thank you very much for your support, and...

Welcome, and Happy Holidays!

I'd like to officially welcome all our new members, who were apparently entirely too eager to see Roger killed- though I now wonder how violently they wanted him killed. :D

And I'd like to officially thank all of you- new, old, lapsed or otherwise, for your interest and enthusiasm in the comic, and for your generosity. You all have no idea how much I appreciate that.

That above is a sampling of this years' book sketches. Several from this years batch I'd ...

Another Machine Shop Video!

Yeah, I know most of you would like to see another drawing video- and I am working on those. :) But I'm still primarily a machinist, and I know a few of you like the mechanical stuff too.

In this case, I had some pieces of heavy-wall pipe to bore out for a local client yesterday, and since I already had the camera and a tripod out, I whipped up a quick video.

One of these days, I'll get that whole "sound" thing figured out, too. :D

First TWB Video: How To Draw Miki!

I've been promising you ladies and gents some 'behind the scenes' videos on the making of TWB, for... well, several years now. :) I had the tripod arrangement and camera out for a shop video earlier this week, so I set it up and recorded sketching a customer "Fanboy" book.

The pose is one of my favorites for this run, and several of you got a variant of it- Miki was  basically the most requested character this year.

Unfortunately, for an ad-hoc setup, the camera and mount was...

A quick bonus comic for ya! The best kind; old jokes and recycled art! Nothing but the best for you lot! :)

Speaking of books, every order received as of about 2PM ADST on Tuesday, has been shipped! The Priority stuff seems to be running on time, and I can only hope the overseas First Class is either also on time or at least not delayed too long.

Thanks, Ladies and Gents!

Stop, stop! I give up! :)

I figured there'd be some interest in some of the characters who haven't gotten much screen time. I'll certainly see what I can do. :) I will say that, for the moment I'd rather not start up anything that might turn into another long storyline. On the plus side, if I do a series of short sketches, we'll see more characters.

This coming week, in part thanks to the book run, which always adds a bit of additional hectic to my usual workload, will be basicall...

Who's next?

Who would you like to see in the next storyline? (That is, starting Monday, so don't dawdle on your answers. :) )

We just saw Sandy and Swampy, a little of Doc and Cara, and of course Jinx and Kasi.

Who haven't we seen in a while? Who'd you like to see have a turn in the spotlight? :)

Fresh, New Books!

Finally, the latest two new TWB books are here! And you ladies and gents get an early chance at them, before the rest of the unwashed mass... er, that is, the regular readers. :)

The downside is that, as you might expect, the cost of, well, pretty much everything has gone up. Paper, binding materials, especially toner, and of course shipping.

On the plus side, two books fit neatly into a Flat Rate envelope, and can get anywhere in the US for just $9. The same style of envelope can...

More art for an upcoming project. This is the original line art, with no changes. Just scanned, reduced to pure B&W (no greys) and cropped.

Piece is already finished, and came out nicely, I think. If all goes well, I'll show it later this weekend.
