Without a zombie. :)
Cara is only annoyed that they don't actually drink anything, and Miki is simply happy to finally have a chance to use that axe she found in one of the back rooms.
Art for an upcoming project. Stay tuned!

One of several things that has been drawing most of my time and attention for the last month or so. Yes, I know this will come as a surprise to some of you, but I, with... *ahem*... a little help, bought another machine tool. :)
Finally moving into the 21st century with a real production turning center!
Had to do a few very minor repairs and give myself a head-first crash course in how to program the bloody thing, but she's up and running. And with a little more practice I should ...

Sometimes I get a little too tied up on one part of a strip (in this case, the sound effects, all of which came from actual Don Martin comics) and neglect others. Upon re-reading, it occurred to me that the sound effects needed at least a little action to make them "fit" the strip better. So I added some parts and tools being flung about, which I think ties it together a bit better.
I also redid the fellows' arm in the last panel to make the pose look a little more natural, added a bit ...

For those wondering at my sanity, yes, as several noted, it's a sort of "magic eye" 3D effect. I accidentally noticed it a few strips ago, with Swamps and Cara at the Coffee Shop, and since I'm doing so much copy-paste this week, I thought I'd give it a more intentional try.
The results are not exactly stunning, I'll admit. But it is, again, a very first try. I haven't looked up any how-tos or tutorials, but the technique is simple enough. I just need to practice what and how much to of...

With this final installment, the little Hardinge project is done! The machine itself came out well and has already proved itself handy, and I had a lot of fun doing it up as a video series, rather than my usual photo-blogs. I learned a great deal on the process, and am looking forward to making more.
And, considering that you ladies and gents have been very patient about the "milestone" video promise from, oh, about four years ago, now :) I will start on those very shortly.
Again,...

In this penultimate episode, we clean and reassemble the motor with new bearings, and fix the compound slides that UPS managed to break despite heroic efforts at packaging and protecting by the eBay seller.
Also features our first use of a sound effect. :)

A little better editing, but a lot more disconnected. I'd been busy with other projects at the time, and also kind of getting frustrated at times, so I didn't manage to record parts of many of these operations. So it kind of jumps around a bit- even for me, and I was there when it was being done! :)
But, as I've said, one of the primary reasons for even doing this in the first place, was I needed the practice at shooting and editing a video. I have in f...

For the five or six of you wondering where we are on the little lathe project, I just uploaded Part 3 of the build!
Keeping in mind this is really little more than practice. I have a few things I want to make videos of, and of course I owe you lot some TWB "how it's done" videos. And prior to about three months ago, the last time I'd used any kind of an editor was on a Win95 box. :D
I have in fact learned a bunch over the last few videos, and have had a lot of fun doing it.

I've owed you ladies and gents an extra comic for a couple of weeks now, and finally, through the magic of cut-and-paste, I've finally had a chance to put it up! :D It'll be up on the main page at the usual update time early Saturday morning, but here it is a bit early for you generous sorts.
Enjoy!

One of the great many things that has been occupying my time lately. Finally had a chance last night to edit some of the clips I've shot of the project, into the start of a proper rebuild video series.
Don't laugh too hard. :D
I'd forgotten to turn the cameras external mic on more than a few times. and so had no sound whatsoever for much of this video. That forced me to try and add some music- the editing software came with quite a bit of royalty-free stu...

One of the many, many things occupying my time at the moment is yet another machine rebuild. This one is much smaller and simpler than most, though, and as it's not time-critical, I've only been working on it in those rare few spare moments.
Also, I've been trying to do this little build up as a video, rather than my usual photographic build-blog.
It's... not going well. :)
Besides being a total noob at staging, shooting and editing a video, my attention is being split...

I added more of the cast to Wednesday's strip- the way I wanted it originally, but simply didn't have time for. Unfortunately, also due to time constraints, the revised strip will effectively be Thursday's update.
However, to make it up to all of you, there'll be another update on Saturday! Stay tuned!

My apologies for the ongoing lack of color. Spring is always a busy time for me, and this year we have the added attraction of trying to catch up on some lingering issues left over from last year.
I plan to sit down and spend an entire day doing nothing but catching up on the color, but it's gonna be a bit. Last week was pretty hectic, and this coming week is shaping up to be even more so.
In the meantime, have a book-sketch Mikibutt. :)

This time, turning a bit of titanium!
This is very much just a practice video- a single, simple project I could record and edit, basically just for the practice of... recording and editing. :D It's literally the first time I've ever tried piecing together more than like two or three clips.
It ain't great, but it already taught me a lot- I need better lighting, I need better tripods and camera mounting, I need to work on sound control, editing and pacing, etc. etc.
I'll never...

I was digging through some old files looking for a particular bit of artwork for another project, and came across this original drawing of Radar.
It's basically a finished version of the very first sketch I made of the character. She got a little simplified for her first appearance, and unfortunately, when I'm not paying attention, I tend to draw her just as a more svelte Jinx. :)
This is more h...

Way back in 2010, my old print shop and I were getting ready for another big holiday sale- books, T-shirts, etc. One of the bright ideas was a poster-sized print, and the bright idea for that was a "Charlie's Angels" pose, since the new remake movie had recently come out.
I did up the art, and the print shop guy added an explosion in the background, and "Doc's Angels" movie-poster titling. Wasn't a big fan of the title, but I was assured "those guys will buy anything". We had ten poster...
