Sketch page #1

The thing I am most excited to work on in the future is the Starlings Mobile which is in the upper right corner!

Sandhill Cranes sketch

This is pretty much the exact opposite of how I find myself feeling at the moment- like many I am pretty depressed about the US election results. I can't really say anything that hasn't been said before and articulated better so I will leave it at that.

If you need me I will be trying my best to channel this sentiment!

Hex Sketches

I know we're still pretty far out from Gay Cardinal season... but I thought I would share some new hex sign sketches! I like to place new sketches in a grid of my previous hex signs to see if they feel like a cohesive collection.

Whip-poor-will decoy progress

For the past week I've been painting a Whip-poor-will! I am very happy with how it's turning out so far.

The process behind the scenes...

1. Draw profile silhouette of Whip-poor-will
2. "Inflate" silhouette in Illustrator
3. Get model 3D printed (at actual size!)
4. Create a silicone mold and cast in hydrostone
5. Begin painting

To do...
6. Finish painting sometime in the future!

Shop Update!

Apologies for the lack of updates recently-

The real, brick-and-mortar Pigeon Post shop will be open for the first time ever this October 26 in Scranton, PA for a spooky Halloween art fair!!

My partner and I have been putting the finishing touches on the shop and there will be many pictures coming soon. For now- here is the poster we're putting up everywhere featuring the building the shop is in and bats flying out of our little shop corner.

Red-Eyed Birds Poster or Sweatshirt? (Poll)

I want to make Red-Eyed Birds into another product for my shop! I'm considering either a poster or sweatshirt at the moment. Both would be locally printed in Northeastern PA.

[Updated mockup as I've been notified the original blue color sweatshirt is not available!]

Red-Eyed Birds of North America

It's 95% finished! Thank you for your species suggestions when I posted the more WIP last time. I was able to include some of them! :)

Might adjust the colors a bit, I usually don't make things so gray but maybe it makes sense with the general spookiness and wanting the eyes to really pierce through.

Update...

I played around with the type and layout a bit more!

Red-Eyed Birds Poster 2 Sneak Beak!

This October I am planning on having a much more extensive version of my Red-Eyed birds poster from last year. If you remember- I only picked about 8 bird to feature which quite a few people did not appreciate!

I am also trying to only feature birds with super red eyes this time around- since many birds have eyes that are more of a deep orange. The list so far is as follows... (let me know if you feel there are any glaring omissions!

1. Red-Eyed Vireo

2. Red-Breast...

Moths by Size Lamp Pattern

Something I am planning to paint on a cube-shaped bedside lamp. I hope to share more photos as the lamp progresses!

Arranged by size beginning out from the largest. Took a few artistic liberties to get them to neatly fit within one another!

Spotted Towhee sketch

I have been drawing more red-eyed birds for a "complete" red-eyed birds poster this fall- but in the meantime I wanted to highlight one of them! Here is a Spotted Towhee with some California Poppies. Still experimenting with the colors!

Shrike Strike!

A poster I made for the Bird Union which I am a part of

The Bird Union is the official union representing Audubon Society workers. Long story short is that Audubon is being a jerk and we are prepared to escalate for better conditions!

Black-and-white warbler sketch

I've always wanted to try something bold and graphic with the Black-and-white warbler's pattern. The first couple tries I used a checkerboard pattern but it always ended up looking like a bad ska album cover. Using a shape that compliments the bird a bit more feels much better!
