In the 1940s, Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in the San Francisco Bay was a state-of-the-art facility. Deemed to be completely escape-proof, convicts from all over the United States who were regarded as dangerous and incapable of rehabilitation were often transferred to the gloomy island prison.
Despite its reputation, on May 2, 1946, several armed inmates embarked on a plan to break free from Alcatraz. Their mission would have deadly consequences.

North Carolina residents James Napoleon Taylor and Raymond Reid died 13 years apart from seemingly natural causes, and doctors felt there was nothing suspicious about their deaths.
But when another man was admitted to hospital with an apparent case of food poisoning, it triggered an investigation that would expose a shocking link between all three victims.

When Brisbane based real estate agent Gerard Baden-Clay woke up at 6 AM on the morning of April 20 2012, there was no sign of his wife, Allison. This wasn’t completely out of the ordinary, as Allison sometimes went for early morning walks around their Brisbane neighbourhood. She was always home in time to get the couple’s three daughters ready for school, but when 7:15 rolled around, there was still no sign of her.
Gerard called the police to report Allison missing, sparking t...

Case 49: The Moors Murders
"Remains of the Moors Murderers' first victim were kept by police for 30 years without her family's knowledge.
Ian Brady and Myra Hindley admitted killing 16-year-old Pauline Reade in 1963, while in prison in the 1980s.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it "recently became aware" some of her remains were kept "for investigative purposes" and has since returned them."

When we research and produce Casefile episodes we never set the running time – it all depends on the available information and access we get. However, we are curious what do you prefer? Longer episodes or shorter? And why?

The Weinberger family was emblematic of 1950s suburban America. Husband and wife Betty and Morris lived in a modest home in Westbury, New York, where they were raising their two-year-old son Lewis and their newborn baby, Peter.
July 4, 1956, started just like any other day for the Weinberger’s. After feeding Peter his bottle, Betty put him down for a nap in his stroller. It was a warm summer’s day, so she parked the stroller on their front patio and then went inside. Just a fe...

It is time to kick this off. There will be 7 teams! The team lists were created at random.org and you will find them below. Exchange your email or contact details with the other people in your team. (In the comments below is probably easiest).
Organise a group email/facebook group/skype/google hangout etc etc and get to know each other. Each team will submit a list of cases they would like to cover (maximum allowed is 5 per team - one each. But it doesnt have to be that many). From there, the ...

Obviously, if there are too many people things could get a bit hectic, so there was the suggestion that teams could be formed which is a good idea.
Don't worry too much about distance, if their are people ...
