Dorothy/Walky refined pencils, from the archives

My impetus for this one, other than, y'know, being horny, was to draw somebody mostly clothed?  Like, not topless, at least.  I went back to Dorothy's old Liz-Lemon-Interviewing-For-Adoption blouse/skirt from 2014.

We've discovered the reason why Dorothy's anatomy "up there" was just a triangle in yesterday's early pencils.  When I draw my characters clothed in the comic, like, that's about as complicated as I ever construct the anatomy.  It's all triang...

So I guess I don't have to only show my process for the NEW drawings, right?  Sometimes I can be, like, sure, here's some pencils from some old thing, soon to be followed by other images from later in the process.

Well, "old" in this case means, like, 2021.  Both Dorothy and Walky are in their current hair.  Probably why I'm, like, sure, check out the pencils.  The anatomy isn't, like, 2013-ish terribleness.

Shortpacked! Mike and Amber, from the archives

This is Hard Drive Smut #8, from 2013!  And you can tell, probably, from the primitiveness.  Look at those weird steak fry fingers Mike has.  Can I do boob physics yet?  well we're trying, we might have to draw hundreds more of these to hone our craft

look it's okay they're doing this, they're married, no sin detected

Objectified, sexualized Lucy: for Science (from the archives)

I'm sure some of you have noticed that, hey, some of my characters I sexualize more than others.  *coughcoughAmberJenniferDorothycoughcough*  Meanwhile, there's folks like Dina and Becky who honestly I only draw sexy-style for an audience.

Lucy was another character I didn't really think of in "that way," and in early 2021, when she started her relationship with Walky, I was thinking, hrm, I might have to draw a Slipshine or something with these two eventually.  So...

Flat colors, colored lines, plus some tweaking of the lines here and there.  Mostly trying to convey skin being pressed against other skin or actual hair between clutching fingers!  He's not just wearing a helmet, I swear.

oh no this patreon is where ships go to die

I figured, hrm, maybe I should do some art of these two while the iron is... lukewarm?  Look, I dunno.   Unlike Walky/Lucy from last month, these drawings could've happened.   Just a coupla hot people feelin' each other up all the time, you know how it is.

But since we get plenty of views of Jennifer in here, I figured I'd try a top-down where we see mostly Asher.  Plus, drawing a mess of tangled limbs, with...

Colored linework and color fills!

Usually I upload this stuff to show progress, but hopefully it's also interesting to show backwards through progress?  If not, oh well!  I already put these all up.

*points at title*  yep, that's what this is

I actually decided to not fill in the blacks on this layer (belt, button) so I could more easily apply shading to those parts later, but here they are filled in here, whatever.

I usually update in the other direction with these, from start to finish, but oh well!  Christmas surprises means finished art first!  NOW pencils.

Billie/Ruth, from the archives

I like drawing feet -- they're interesting (AND YET I CAN'T DRAW SHOES??? wtf) -- but I don't have, like, a foot fetish.  Or DO I???  So, in *checks file data* 2018, I drew something to see if I did.

Turns out, no, I don't think so.  I even had to shove Billie's hand down/up Ruth's pants to make it interesting to me.

But if you do, then Merry Christmas to you I guess.

This was hard drive smut #221.

Jennifer pin-up finished render

Spent too much time on this!  There's bits and pieces where I'm just trying stuff out, like -- "can I additionally render the hair out from the lineart" and I'm not sure if it's successful, but I left it, because I guess it was important that I experiment, I dunno.  These side drawings which aren't the comic itself are where I can mess around like that.

i guess sometimes you folks might get one of the first ten thousand drawings before i get good at something

Color flats and colored lines!  also i tapered the hips a bit because i'm not sure it'd make sense otherwise if i extended the art beyond the borders

usually i don't call out minor inking changes but i ran out of useful things to say

Oh!  Also I guess I gave her a hint of eyeshadow, I dunno.

Robin/Leslie (Shortpacked!), from the archives

After last week's "Notty!," this is a Walkyverse chaser, and since it's Black Friday, here's everyone's favorite toy store employees.  It's from the archives, it's hard drive smut #54, it was drawn in 2013, and, unrelated, sorry for the sudden onslaught of Mariah Carey, everyone.

Joyce/Walky "Notty!" redrawn panel, flats

I grabbed the colors from the colored version of the original strip that spawned this scene, just to make sure the palette was It's Walky/Joyce&Walky-esque enough rather than the colors I use today (aka the same eyedropped colors since 2010).   Mostly it means Joyce's colors are a little more ashy than usual.

Joyce/Walky "Notty!" redrawn panel, re-re-penciled

Figured out what was throwing me.  The original pose, as drawn, was untenable!  The intersection of legs and legs and crotches and legs wasn't precisely allocating to real physical space.  If Walky's butt is on the ground, Joyce's thighs need to aim forward rather than back -- of course once you do that, you start obscuring Walky's butt, which I'm trying not to do, because I'm kind.  And so I'm foreshortening Joyce's legs forward towards us instead.  That's the soluti...

I dunno, something about this isn't clicking with me.  I may need to go back to, as the guy in the first Raimi Spider-Man movie says, "back to formula."

But I thought I'd show you where I was at anyway.

Joyce/Walky "Notty!" redrawn panel, pencils

I'm flirting with the idea of redrawing one panel from page 6 of "Notty!" if only because I'm wondering if I can, like, de-DumbingofAge-ify the characters in an artistically satisfying way.  In these rough pencils, it's so far manifesting in, uh, unlearning how I've adapted the way I've drawn their hair over the past 13 years.

Also, wondering how/if I can take into account how their bodies may differ between universes.  Walkyverse Joyce and Walky were way more physical...
