Joe fingers Joyce, prototype pencils, plus unused strip

This is a version of the recent Joe/Joyce artwork that I drew in late 2023! This is the original version, with hand OVER the sweatervest, Joe in his purple luau shirt, and Joyce in boots! I never inked or colored it, and it sat on my computer like this for a while as Hard Drive Smut #482.
I also had a hand-under-sweatervest version, but still with the boots and luau shirt. (see above)

There! I did the airbrushing! I almost didn't, because, like, I dunno, the "simple shading" version looked fine. Even Maggie was like "the sharper one looks better" so whatever. But I did it! It's airbrushed!

Took a detour on the way from Simple Shading to Airbrushed this morning, if by "detour" I mean "uh this took all morning and way longer than just airbrushing." That's right, it's an animated gif. Despite all the crazy lighting! I made it work!

For the regular comic-style "simple shading" pass, I used the same dark room palette as the scene in the strip used. Dark blue overlay, with some light blue highlights!

Sometimes when you're coloring you find things you still gotta fix -- for example, as I started to color in the argyle pattern on Joyce's sweatervest, I realized it wasn't actually long enough to fit it! And so more folds get tossed in.

Yup, those are sure inks! Some small fixes. Joyce's shins and arms are a little longer. Remembered to put that laptop back there.

While the Book 14 Kickstarter has been taking up almost all of my time the past few days, I've been trying to sneak in some work on the promised redraw of the older Joyce art.

I dunno! None of my pencil gestures are speaking to me so far. I'm not sure what it is. I'm gonna keep trying, though, and you can have a look at two attempts in the meantime. Tell me which one is obviously better, and I'll say NEITHER!!!! Y...

We've got... another 100 active members??? (I'LL say) So I was like, hrm, I should, like, redraw the old reclining Joyce art that helped push this along, maybe, as a thank you? Spitballing. But after pulling up the original file for reference, I was reminded there were pencils under here! So have those while I work on the newer version.

Realized: hrm if this is Comics Shading, then I should probably un-translucent the glasses into the way they appear in the comic. So here y'go. Comics-style glasses coloring!

yes the pubic hair is still shaped like her noggin hair, because that makes me laugh and i refuse to end running gags no matter how stupid, but i did try a new rendering style on it that makes it look a little pubier

I spent a lot of time un-inking and re-inking a lot because... I felt like I was making the shapes too complex. Needed to be like 20% more cartoony, or it'd start looking like a real-life human with a cartoon face on top. Making the lines a little thicker helped.
