Sooo we voted on having a small tutorial that is a quick summary of the entire Anime Shading process, but I was wondering if you would also like to include the "Pre-Process" which is taking a sculpture > retopologizing it > and bringing it to Blender ready to be "seamed"? My retopo process has changed quite a bit from when I started the Anime series, and it is a pretty significant part of the whole ordeal - This tutorial would take about 60 seconds, maybe 2 minutes on the long end. Othe...

Took a few more days than expected, but I finally got the 3rd Character textured and ready for animation-!! This guy actually has the cleanest topology of all the Anime Textured Characters so far - I've learned a lot of tricks since we were texturing Exa, so there is a WORLD of difference between the topology workflow for her compared to this guy lol
Also, I think the Yellow Eye turned out really well - Thank you everyone for voting, I think we made the right choice :)

So, Generally the enemies are going to be dark colors, so a black base, with gray skin, and a highlight color (Which is the color the eyes and lights glow) -
(Example Here: https://youtu.be/CEH51tkAle4?t=5 )
You can see on the character above, the highlight color was red. Different enemies have different weapons, attacks, and amounts of health. So, I would like each enemy to have a different highlight color in ord...

In the next video, I'll be demonstrating the Anime technique on our Bacteriophage - Now, originally I designed this character as a "bad-guy", however, my med-school friends have informed me they are in fact good guys - So, my conundrum is should they also wear "good guy" colors?? In our game, the good guys generally wear white armor, so maybe just to be clear they are on your side, s...

Alright Squad, this is the plan to finish the Anime series - It's been a LONG journey, but we are finally approaching the end - This last phase in may ways is one of the most difficult. There's so much subjectivity that comes into play when it comes to designing the Albedo and AO maps, that finding a coherent way to explain it quickly has been tricky. In anticipation of this complexity, this month I've made the decision to account for a few extra days in between each video to make sure the de...

To all the new faces, welcome to the Squad - please make yourselves right at home :)
As for the debriefing, here's what we accomplished last month: Not a bad run - I really wanted to do more, but all things considered, we got through the meat of the series - While it might not show in the report, I learned a lot about technique and tested many variations on how to get the most out of our Art Style. I also acquired a some new software, and a few assets for sculpting that have DRASTICALLY in...

Today, I'd like to share some good news-! I can now say with full confidence that the Anime Shader has been a Success - It's a come a long way from 2 months ago when I was first trying to figure it out, but above you can see what one of the bad guys in the game looks like when the shader is applied and rigged-!!
It's also Motion Capture compatible so I will be able to save a lot of time animating him by simply hiring someone to move around and pretend to be a Virus lol Really hope you...

Soooooo, now that the Sculpting phase for the enemies is completed, I've been trying to find the most efficient way to quickly retopo things from zBrush to a usable character we can rig/animate in Blender. It has quickly become apparent to me that manually retopologizing all 9 enemies takes up WAY too much time. It would be impossible for me to finish the game by this year doing all this manually. The most valuable resource for me right now is time, so I decided to test things out in Maya bec...

Hey Squad, just some quick updates - very recently I just learned that for some reason, our allies in the YouTube Members have not been getting notified of the posts I make for Squad - Everything was fine, until 6 days ago when I started to notice unusual activity. I WISH YouTube would share what kind of changes they make with us Creators, but for whatever reason the Members who Support monthly are NOT getting notified when I post Squad updates.
Long story short, I've been trying to fi...

Big thanks to everyone for voting and leaving feedback in the comments last poll - While the results were very decisive, a lot of you brought up some pretty good points about staying consistent with our own short format, and gave me a few ideas for the future.
First thing I've concluded was that this "workflow" video will indeed be short. It's not going to show everything at 100x speed. Instead I'm just going to show highlight the main parts of the workflow, and talk about what was goi...

I've been working on Anime Texturing the Virus Enemies. And, since I am going to go through the entire Anime Texturing process all over again for each character, the idea occurred to me that maybe I could record one of the whole processes and compress it into a single "Workflow Demonstration" video and post it at the end of the series. It's a bit of extra work, but if it's something you'd like to see or if it's something you think would be helpful, I don't mind recording my work for one of th...

It took me a while to get used to the new video software, but I think I'm able to upload in 1080p now - I think it's important you have a clear idea of the purpose of this technique and why it was used so heavily in Guilty Gear - It's quite simple in nature, but a little extra information never hurts -

So, some general updates on my experience practicing Sculpting. It's been a few months now since I started sculpting. And, overall it's been a very eye-opening experience. I've always heard and seen how awesome sculpting was, but as someone who's been 3D polymodeling for over a decade, the idea of learning how to model all over again felt sort of daunting. But, after forcing myself to practice every day. I've learned how to model characters at a speed and quality that would have never been po...

Since we have so many new faces here, I thought now would be a great time to get everyone up to speed on the plan - As many of you know, on my "spare" spare time in between tutorials I work on the assets for our upcoming game.
Something important about all these characters/weapons is that I will be releasing everything to the community when the game is over/complete. Each one of these models/characters takes entire days or sometimes weeks to complete. And, we've had a long discussion h...

I wanted to let you guys know that I was finally able to afford to upgrade to the newer version of Camtasia (The Software I use to record my screen and make tutorials) - I've been using the 2015 version for the last 6 years. And, because of that, I was never able to export high quality videos (720p was the max). I ran a test today and it looks like I can finally export in 1080p now! Or, at least so it seams - lol
I've already recorded most of the next tutorial with the old Camtasia and...

Alright, Squad - As usual, we got A LOT on our plate this month, and no time to waste-!

I would like to make this character in Anime style, and it would be created using ALL of the techniques I've shown thus far. Anime Style Materials, UV Maps, Texturing, AO, Diffuse, and adjusted Squaring - It would also be equipped with one of the weapons we have created for the game. The po...
