After a LOOOONG time looking for Anime special effects that could compliment our Anime style game shading. I have finally found one I think will work!!! Specifically the first "4 seconds" of this video are EXACTLY the kind of flare, bullet, and collision dust style effects I was looking for - If we combine these with our characters, animation, and shading I think we'll have a pretty sick looking art direction, can't wait to glue it all together-!!

So, we're actually almost done covering normal editing. There's a few more tricks and tools I'd like to share, but before we complete our "normal journey", I was wondering if you guys would like a short tutorial about binary vTuber style shading for the face. vTuber face shading is usually either ALL on, or ALL off. It's very simple, so I wasn't sure if it was worth covering. But, is it something you'd like me to cover real quick?? If not, we'll be going STRAIGHT into "Abnormal" -
I'l...

So, the conclusion of the Shotgun Poll was extremely close. I was very surprised to see how tight the votes were coming. Thank you to everyone for both voting, and discussing your reasoning for why you voted one way or the other! I was perfectly happy with either option, but in the end, the 2 handed design had the most votes. So I've already begun concepting the basic outline and shape for the shotgun you'll see in the final game - Can't wait to show you guys how it looks, but as soon as it's...

I've been getting ideas for the next weapon design (shotgun), and I'm stuck between 2 possible directions. One or two handed?? I feel like the classic shotgun shape is a beautiful thing - It's simple, clean, and easy to recognize from far away. However, in my search I also found some cool single hand shotgun designs that I honestly think would look pretty cool, and be a little more unique. Wh...

Because of all the new faces here, I thought It would be a good idea to get everyone up to date on what we're working on, and how far we are into it -
The Anime Series is on schedule, and so far I think I've lined up the information into a fairly cohesive plan. In between each tutorial with my spare time, I work on "Macrophage" which is our upcoming game project. I'm particularly excited about this game because it will be the first project I attempt to do with Anime Style Characters. ...

I noticed there was a spike in Patreon Subscriptions this morning, I assume many of you are here after watching the Proxy tutorial, and are really looking forward to seeing the full walkthrough from Ruki. She actually gave us 2 videos. The first one above is the "full" version. She also created a simplified tutorial for you here :

Alright Squad. It's taken a lot of thought... Originally I had planned to teach Square UV Mapping next, but after running through multiple ideas for how to explain things as cleanly as possible, I've decided to cover normal editing BEFORE we cover Square UV Mapping. In real application, you always make sure you're shadows and topology are good before finalizing the UV, so it didn't make sense to do it out of order.
Now, I've been trying very hard to handle teaching editing normals. It'...

Well, Squad - There's still ALOT of information left for me to cover before we've completed the Anime Shader series, but I think we're off to a pretty good start. Now, that we're through most of the "conceptual" and basic shader set-ups. Next month we'll be getting into the tricky details and specifics that a lot of people have trouble with like squaring, mapping, and editing normals - I'll be posting the July Objectives video Line-Up soon, so hope you look forward to that!

So, in the last poll we voted between 2 designs on the left elbow. It was really tough for me because I liked both designs, and even more, Patron's voted overwhelmingly for 3 spikes, and YouTube members voted overwhelmingly for 1 spike lol. Both sides left very reasonable and good points to me, so I wanted to try see if I could find a middle ground.
Basically, the argument for 3 was (It looks cool), the argument against it was (It looks too much, and attracts too much attention away fr...

I've been tinkering with some final touches to the model and I have 2 possible ideas for the left arm. One has a single large spike on the elbow. The other has 3 small spikes on the elbow.
I had this idea that the spikes could project a small shield web that could deflect shots aimed at the torso. But, I'm not sure if it looks "too much". I kinda like it, but ...

Well, I finally finished my 2nd sculpt - I'm honestly still taking a bit to get used to sculpting. It's a very VERY different experience from low-poly modeling lol. But, I DO feel like I am slowly making improvements to my technique.
One of the biggest feedback a lot of you guys left was he had no depth perception with 1 eye lol. So........ I gave him 3 eyes!!! - He's got 1 main eye for sniping. The left eye is thermal vision, the right eye is x-ray - He can also see through the scope...

P.S. (It's all low poly, really just picking silhouettes for now - The final designs will be much more detailed, higher, rounder poly)

Thank you to everyone for putting in your vote last poll. I was actually quite surprised to see where the numbers led. To sum up, the total results adding both the Patron's and YouTube members was in favor of the eye video. However, the comments helped make clear that it's not something we should dwell on as it is a bit of a tangent.
So, here's my decision, instead of going in depth on how it was created over a few videos, it will just be covered in 1 single short video. I will upload ...

1: Originally I designed it as an easy way to bake whatever eye you designed as a texture map onto your character. However, it turned out that Blender's EEVEE does not have ...

Hey Squad, been doing a lot of work behind the scenes. I'm still not entirely sure how well the environment and special effects are going to mesh with our experimental shader in Unity. But, I guess we'll cross those bridge when we get the...

So, I just wanted to give a quick heads-up for what the timeline is here, It's taken a little longer for me to start the series because of the sheer amount of stuff there is to cover -
We're basically cramming an entire workflow into a single subject, when in reality, this look is impossible to achieve without the right, modeling, topology, shadows, normals, materials, colors, and shader. Shader really is the smallest part of the process. So I've been crunching real hard to organize th...
