Patreontober #20 - "Wheatfield"

Here's day 20 for Is' prompt of "wheatfield"! I drew this last night when I didn't really have that much left in the way of eyes, so it's just a little blurry. But hey, colourful!

Today, I've mainly been watching and rewatching and analysing the new intro for Critical Role. If you've been enjoying my art of Orym and the rest of the Bells Hells but don't know much more about them than what you've been seeing in my art, this is the best introduction in the world you will ever get! Patreontober #19 - "Sweets"

Today's pic is Jester's hands holding a blueberry cupcake, for Deidre's prompt of "sweets"!

For those who haven’t watched (Campaign 2 of) Critical Role, this moment is iconic to the campaign and pretty much Critical Role at large. The Mighty Nein are in the hut of the fearsome hag Isharnai, who put a curse on Nott turning her into a goblin. The hag thrives on misery, so to remove the curse, Isharnai demands a sacrifice that will cause more misery. Jester, the fun (and sweets) loving b...

Patreontober #18: "Horse"

Corine gave us "horse", so here’s a rather quick Asfaloth (I'd allotted two hours at school for this today, but then I had to jump in for a colleague and one of the two was gone). Quick digital watercolour. =)

Second page filled! =O

Patreontober #17 - "Smith"

Here's today's image, for Matěj's prompt "smith"! I did briefly think of Matt Smith, but Fëanor (very dignifiedly) bumped up and down to be done in an ink style. I love that style SO much, and it's suited so well to black hair and fire! I will definitely do more of it.
Done with the "fuzzy fineliner" from my "Pencil, Ink & Hatch" set. Plus a bit of colour added with the charcoal from the same set.

Page is filling fast!

Patreontober #16 - "Namarië"

I always wanted to do very soft sketches, like Alan Lee or John Howe, and I found time and time again that I have too much of a bold stroke. Now I can just sketch boldly and then take back the boldness. 😁

Blade's prompt of "Namarië" resulted in, fittingly, Amarië, Finrod's beloved. It actually started out as Galadriel, but didn't quite fit her.

Patreontober #15: "Fire"

First off, thank you all so much for all your words of support and courage yesterday; that really built me up again.

For a warning shot, it seems Friday's eye episode could have been worse. It doesn't bother me much (apart from the occasional cat at my right heel), and it made it clear I need to keep more of an eye on my blood pressure, as that seems to have been the catalyst again.

With that in mind, I started on this one yesterday, with a bit of a more elaborate style, as well...

Patreontober #14: Party tree

Juliette's prompt of "party tree" was overshadowed by a new eye episode, so I guess they're not over yet. 😖

The new blind spot is pretty large but, thankfully, not central, but bottom right of my right eye. I will probably be running over cats a lot. Even more than normal, that is.

Still dealing with it, so a rather quick pic today.

Patreontober #13: Avari

Paul's suggestion of "Avari" prompted Eöl, most prominent of the Avari! I went with a properly inked piece, a look which I’ve always liked but don't do as often as I should. (With the fineliner brushes from my last brush set).

You may remember the general image idea from my painting of Aredhel a few years ago.

Patreontober #12: Sailing

Elizabeth gave us the prompt "sailing", and Fjord kicks off the second sheet of Patreontober. One of the things Critical Role (and Travis Willingham) achieved: it made half-orcs sexy. 😂

Had a bit of a bad coupled days and thought I'd fall a lot more behind, but I just might make it to "Avari" tonight. Fingers crossed!

Patreontober #11 - "Sea-longing"

Zane gave me the prompt "sea-longing" and of course my mind went to Legolas!

First page filled! This is still such a fun exercise, I'm so glad we're doing this!

Etsy restock!

I just added ten new prints, as well as a large deluxe version of Caleb in the library! Etsy still has an ongoing sale for today, so now's the time! =D

Patreontober #10 - "Glimmer"

Hannah's prompt of "glimmer" made me think of the light of Valinor in the eyes of the Noldor, so here's a little Fingon looking into your soul!

Done with my coloured pencil brushes in Procreate this time.

Patreontober #9: Mischievous

Brit's prompt for today prompted - Fearne, of course! There was a lovely interview with Ashley, her player, a while back, where she said what she loved most about her character was that Fearne has a little tail, and every time she gets ready to do something delightfully disastrous, she imagines her tail wiggling with excitement. 😄

Expanded the image! I'll keep it at eight total though, I think.

Patreontober #8: "Heartbreak"

We spent the entire day at Essen Games Fair (SPIEL) yesterday, and though I‘d already finished this on Saturday night, I didn’t find any time to post it. For Dorte's prompt "heartbreak", the first thing that came to mind was the man responsible for serving up the largest amounts of delicious heartbreak over the last two years: Liam O‘Brien, player of Vax'ildan , Caleb, and Orym. This is drawn from the scene where he (as Orym) tells Keyleth about her dead lover, his former character Vax,...

Patreontober #7 - Bunny

First difficult decision: Watership Down or Agnes? I felt more like Agnes today, so here she is for Isabella's prompt "bunny"!

Done with a ballpoint-pen I'm developing in Procreate. I love the look and feel of ballpoint pen, all the more so when it doesn’t fade - or smudge when you erase! When I think about all the pieces I‘ve ruined because I didn‘t wait long enough before erasing my sketch! I used to draw in my "homework book" with ballpoint pen all through University.

Patreontober 6: companion

Here's today’s prompt, from Michelle C! Trinket, Vex' animal companion extraordinaire, after being yarnbombed by Vax and Keyleth. (Trinket was a lot more okay with it than Vex.) 😂

Drawn with my pencil brushes. 😊

Patreontober #5: Leaf-crown

Here's Liv's suggestion!

Thranduil was painted with my new watercolour brush set (which always means two hours of painting and three hours of fiddling with brushes).

Today, I had this idea to combine several sketches together in one scrapbooky thing, which I really like. I'm just going to accept the fact that Inktober is always a weird search until day five. At least I cut that process short this time by not starting until day four! 😅
Here's the two pieces together - ...

Patreontober #4: Parting

Here we are with KN‘s suggestion: "Parting". Absolutely had to kick this off with Orym saying farewell to his mom, leaving Zephrah a few months after the loss of his husband and father in law.

I'm going to shake fandoms up a lot this month, and I already have pretty good ideas for the next few days, which is definitely good! This was drawn with my pencil brushes, but tomorrow's "leaf crown" definitely needs a splash of colour. 😊

Here's the final prompt list!

Patreontober!

Let's see! I really want to do a little thing, doing some art every day, maybe coloured, maybe not, give the new brushes some exercise... and that's where you come in!

I'm a few days late, but give me 28 prompts I'll draw over the month of October! (If I fall behind, I'll extend it into November). That way, we'll make a personalised prompt list! If any of you would like to join me in drawing, that would be awesome!

Prompts should be relatively open, simple...

An unexpected MagicCon

Has anyone ever missed a con by accident? I nearly did.

For years, MagicCon Bonn was the same weekend and the Games Con in Essen, so I very obviously looked up the latter and simply assumed MagicCon would be the same weekend (i. e., next weekend). I had planned to do new signs for my table and have the Caleb print done over the next week. And then, on Thursday at break, my friend Becky sent me a text saying she was stuck on the train and didn't know when she'd be in Bonn.  View Post

In your dreams

"I'm in your dreams now/I'm just a man on the moon."

Is it just me, or is Liam planning for another tragic character death? It doesn’t seem to me as if Orym is planning to see the end of the campaign...

Also, I made a ballpoint pen in Procreate for inking and I’m totally in love with it!

Study Time - finally finished!

This took ages, and in between, I thought I’d abandoned it. It’s weird how much this wip scared me. I never had that with traditional watercolours. There seems to be something liberating about NOT having an undo button, for some reason.

But I’m so, so happy with how this turned out, and of course, in the end, it all basically painted itself. This was done with my new watercolour brush set, but it doesn’t really show it off that much, hee.

I'll have prints of this mad...

Pencil, Ink & Hatch set is online! =D

Here's the Etsy link to my brand-new pencil set! It started out as a sort of waste product of just a handful of brushes that didn't really fit into the first set, and now I'm obsessed with it, hee. I was going to paint the Molly one in watercolours, but I think this one suits him far better!

FOREST GUARDIANS: I'm going to post it for you all for free on here in a bit. =D

JACKALOPES: I'll put together a little sampler, as I did for the last o...

Butterfly wings

This is the "critter" that came out of my previous post! My brain bounced off of Megan's alicorn suggestion the most, but I wanted a lot of colour, so butterfly wings happened.

I am very, very much in love with the coloured pencil / watercolour pencil looks here! I'm going to finish up the set soon and will upload it to my shops. I wonder if I need to do a video tutorial this time. The last one was really well received, but the brushes here are pretty self-explanatory. What do you all t...

Orym in pencil (but it’s really Procreate!)

New version:now with darker background and white highlights! 💚💚💚I'm utterly in love with this look.

I LOVED doing pencil portraits when I was younger - before there was the Internet (or at least, before I was aware of it) I used to buy the Star Wars Magazine and trawl it for good photos of, let’s face it, Mark Hamill. At some point, I stopped, because I moved away from close photo reference and towards the images in my own head, but pencil portraits still held a lot of a...

Ashton to the rescue

A warm welcome to new Patron, Elizabeth! =D

Orym has a lot on common with my characters - he can be at two hitpoints (out of close to 100) and Not. Back. Up. (I always think, the other guy is just as low as me, all I need is one hit...)

So it takes a friendly Earth Genasi Barbarian to tuck him under his arm and haul him to safety.

Also, look! Pencil brushes! I've made a set of different pencil brushes, including hatching and shading and smudging plus...

"I'm just Me!"

Last episode will be remembered for an inch-long little dolabo (lizard fairy) whom FCG dubbed "Me", who helpfully offered his people's secret to evading a terrifying serpent-creature: rubbing themselves in teal-coloured dolabo poo.

Having fun with my texture-heavy new brushset! And I made a brush specifically for smeared poo. XD

POV: a day at the leisure park

My daugther celebrated her sixteenth birthday yesterday, so I took her and her two best friends to Phantasialand (a nearly-local leisure park), did four rides on "F.L.Y.", the "Crazy Bats" and "Colorado Adventure" just to feel justified in paying 62 Euros for a day of drawing, then found the coziest spots of the park (there was actually one very lovely one, almost devoid of people and utterly devoid of the ubiquitous loud music behind the "Würmling Express" boating lake!), and drew for most ...

Smolfindel with baby Asfaloth

Heeeere's the September suggestion! 😊

I researched "when do white horses turn white" extensively, lol. Because they're obviously born dark, which gave me the opportunity to fine-tune my new "texture galore" brush set and do some gorgeous dapples. You may notice that the effect here looks a little like the pieces I did earlier this year with my painted and scanned textures - I managed to build brushes from them, so this is now all achieved with brushes, no textures inserted! ...
