I'm really happy with the light colours and rendering I've been doing recently. That, as well as using a magnifying glass for facial and other tiny detail. It's addictive!

All quiet on the Eastern front

... really, mum. They're just horribly misunderstood creatures, Ironbellies.  Pyotr, the Chief Warlock of the Beast Division here in Tarnopol, is a staunch supporter of the Tsar and has named all the dragons after members of the Muggle royal family.  Nikolai is positively sweet. Anastasia can be a handful, though,  but nothing we can't handle. 

I've found out she's really scared of the sound of barrage, so I'm trying to keep her out of the action while the Muggles are at it...

Expelled

I can't wait to learn more about the circumstances. For now, I'm assuming that he was expelled in his sixth or seventh year - he definitely had apparition lessons. Or he's a bloody natural. ;)

I'd have said an eleven-year old normally doesn't have those circles around their eyes, unless I had the living counterproof living at my house! 

I'm finally managing to not drown stuff in rendering, and even leaving stuff unfinished, which is really, really hard for me.

Happy Place for Erin

Hi Erin - I finally got round to finishing this; apologies that it's taken so long! 

Elrond and Elros on actual ponies this time. ;) Pencil and white pencil on Strathmore mid-tone paper. I just got this paper and I absolutely love it! It's smoother than most pastel papers, but has some amazing "tooth" to work with white pencil, which most smooth papers won't do.

I decided to make the hippogriff resemble an eagle chick slightly more. They're so fluffy! 

Makes you wonder whether Newt and Hagrid ever met. They'd have got on like a house on fire.

Starring Cheddar and Boo the Puffskeins, Pumpkin Pie the Kneazle, and Nipper the baby Hippogriff. He very probably bottle-raised it. 

Modelled again by my son, bless him. With a pillow over his shoulder. Loki wouldn't stay put long enough. 

I managed to modify Eddie Redmayne's face into a younger version, AND put him in a sailor suit for good measure. Hey, it's 1908!

I love love love this music. It's very similar to the guitar duo my brother played in in the eighties. They called themselves Die Fleißigen Erdbeeren (the industrious strawberries). I wish any of their stuff existed in digital format!

Trying out a few new techniques and practices I've picked up working with Rebecca Guay. Tonight's the last class with her. A couple of gallery people are coming round to look at the participants' work - I know I have exactly zero chances of getting into galleries with the work I currently do, but that's all right. Whenever I see a piece one of my classmates did that was picked up by a renowned gallery, my train of thoughts goes from wow to jealous to "I'd get bored to death doing that sort of wo...

Jobberknoll - lineart

If you've been with me for a while, you know that obsessions happen. One of them is happening right now. While I drew this, I couldn't stop grinning because Newt is just so frigging adorable. <3 

And if you feel the term "obession" is far-fetched, know that I researched the First World War yesterday, especially on the Eastern front, along with winter gear of British troops, for a future piece of Newt with Ukrainian Ironbellies. If only I had the slightest idea what he...

"Is that - a Jobberknoll?!"

Went to see "Fantastic Beasts" again with the kids and my parents yesterday, and oh my, there are so many fanart-inspiring moments in there... Like when Newt is asked, "Are you a seeker of truth?", and he replies, "I'm more of a Chaser, really..."

So obviously, he played for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team in the 1910s. I image he wasn't that good at it, mainly because interesting creatures captured his attention far more than the Quaffle, or Bludgers from the opposing team...

Sorry, not being coherent. This is like a landing point for the SAS semester. It's what I've been trying to do for years, and never really knew what I was doing wrong. YAY.

Newt closer to done and musings on SmArt School

Just one more class to go with Rebecca. Looking at this, I feel so glad that I entered SmArt School last year! There's no way I could have pulled this off like that last summer. It's the balance. A lot of the parts I could have done, but I learned so much about composition, and importantly, about watching out for compositional issues while you paint.
