Many hands make light work, part I

Update: 1.2 dropping on Saturday

Hi everybody!  1.2 is just a few short hours away from being releasable, but it's 0040hrs here and I've got to work tomorrow, so I can't pull an all nighter.  :-(

A titillating new feature

A cool feature of the new wardrobe system is that it can keep multiple images of every clothing item, and intelligently select which one to display based on game conditions.

For instance, I just upgraded the agent's grey t-shirt with a "pokies" version that loads if the agent goes feminist.  

The game is now smart enough to decide when to use the pokies version on its own, which is a really big step forward.  In version 1.1, I would have had to carefully manage when the avatar ...

Current task: Developing the story & integrating the Sex Engine

After weeks of writing nothing but code, I'm excited to have the chance to write some story again!  Before I can integrate the Sex Engine into the base game, I need to push the plot forward to cover the date with Max, so that's what I'll work on next.

Then I can copy the Sex Engine into the game.  Then it's a little more story development to finish the action in Dubai, then I think I can release 1.2!

Current task: Upgrading character customisation (and blondes)

One of the most requested features was an upgrade to the character customisation options.  People wanted the ability to directly enter their character names, and also better navigation through the other options than the "shuffle" buttons I put in the last version.  So that's what I'll be working on next.

I'm also recolouring the blonde hairstyles away from the nasty banana colour towards a more natural "dirty blonde" look.  In future updates I'll create more natural blonde shade...

Current task: avatar system upgrade

I rewrote the avatar system from scratch recently.  This wasn't strictly necessary for the Sex Engine, but is a big "under the hood" improvement that I wanted to make before the game gets much more complex.

The new system simplifies the avatar code and reduces the number of art assets needed for certain clothing items.  It also paves the way for planned future improvements like nipple piercings, different eye/brow/nose/mouth shapes picked at character creation, and hairstyle...

Current task: upgrading the clothing system

Clothing in 1.1 was handled very simply: the game only needed to know what clothing to dress the avatar in.

However, the sex engine needed a lot more information about each clothing item.  (For example: groping the heroine should present different options if the top she's wearing bares a lot of cleavage.)  So I had to rewrite the entire clothing system as a set of extensible objects, along with some specialised code (for doing miscellaneous things like remembering the outfit the hero...

State of the game update

Hey guys!  I’m sorry this update has taken so much longer than I promised.  Building the Sex Engine turned out to be a much more complicated task than I was imagining.  I’ve been working on it solidly for weeks, and the Sex Engine alone weighs in at 20,449 words and 3,746 lines of code.  I also had to rewrite the base game’s avatar and clothing systems from scratch.

Still, the good news is…it’s now working, at least enough to show it off!  $5 Patrons...

1.0.1 P (interim version for $5 Patrons)

The 1.1 release is nearly ready, but for you guys here's a sneak peek of the work done so far.

Operatives: interim update release schedule

If you're reading this, you're a $5 Patron.  Thank you for your generous support at such an early stage, it means a lot to me.

1.1 Progress update

Hi everybody!  Just a quick update – I was aiming to have a release out by now, but the avatar art change has taken longer than I'd expected.  (I've had to redraw basically every piece of avatar artwork in the game.)

I think I will have all the artwork upgraded tomorrow.  (As you can see, I'm up to the suntanned avatars now!)  Then I need to create the character customisation screen, and the 1.1 update will be complete.  I now expect to release this early next week â...

Progress update

I've finished redrawing the basic avatars in the new improved style.  They now have faces and some shading, and next to the 1.0 avatars, I think they're a big improvement.

Coming in 1.1: avatars with faces!

My original plan was for faceless avatars.  I thought it might be better to leave facial features to the player's imagination.  Here's some of the feedback I got about that design decision:

Current task: better Barbies

Female Agent loads the agent's image in layers – first a sexless "underbody", then the sexy bits, then the clothes.

Over on http://www.reddit.com/r/lewdgames, a Redditor named FightHerTightHer fed back that, if your computer loads slowly, your agent looks like a sexless Barbie doll.
