Particles

Previously, in the graphics settings, you could see an inactive element called “Particles.”

In update 0.6.9, we will add several initial particles, one of which will be snowflakes. Particles will be the final detail in a series of atmosphere updates.

About the book

For quite some time now, we've been doing an English translation of our book. We are happy to announce that “The Dance of Nine Flames” is almost finished and we have a few finishing touches to put on it!

The book is a 16+ book with a psychological twist in the fantasy genre. It will tell Yoki's story before her move to Tail Valley, her experiences and dark thoughts.

Triggers

In the next update, we plan to add triggers to change the exposure and volume of the wind. Depending on the player's position on the map, the sound of the wind will be turned down and the eyes will start to get used to the darkness. This will also work in reverse.

Such an innovation should improve immersion in the game. At the moment we are thinking about the technicalities of how to make this both beautiful and optimized.

World Update

We are slowly getting closer to standardization in level building in Nine Lives of Yoki.

We've added 2 new layers to the foreground and background to create more of a depth effect. The new layers are not meant to be moved around and serve as decorative or auxiliary layers, but maybe you will find these island pieces on other islands (levels).

Final visual touches

Tailscript

We've created our own alphabet for our universe!

Tailscript is the symbolic language of the anthropomorphic beings of the YJ universe. Its symbols were formed from light and ash, carrying ancient songs, oaths, and tales. Each symbol flickers like a dancing flame, whispering the breath of the timeless world.

Legend of Frostpaw

In old menu concepts you may have met the "Frostpaw" button. The functionality of this button will only appear in the 3rd phase of the game development, when the open world with quests and npcs will appear.

In the next version this button will return to the menu and will inform about "future content". The same sense has the same meaning of the "Gallery" button, the functionality of which will appear much earlier.

Yoki UI

New interface inside the game. In addition to updating the design, we will slightly improve the game logic:

- Instead of fire there will be mana, which is spent when using a magic attack or when using a shield.

- The scale under lives, as before, fills up when destroying enemies and restores health and mana when full. It now has 3 divisions instead of 4.

- Under Yoki's icon there will now be indicators of buffs and debuffs (they will be used later)

Parallax effect

From the very beginning of creating the background for the menu we wanted to make a parallax effect, but we had to give up this idea because of the difficulties in adapting to different screen resolutions. Nevertheless, we managed to solve the problems: we finalized the background layers and changed the pixel alignment settings.

Now the background of the main menu will move when you change the position of your cursor!

What's next for us? After we finish the series of atmospheric updates, we will be updating the gameplay. Earlier we planned to allocate 2 months for UI improvement, but we decided to include UI improvement in the current series of updates.

Graphics Settings

In the 0.6.6 update we will add the ability to customize graphics, which was added at the beginning of the sixth series of the atmospheric update (0.6.3).

On the screenshot you can see the settings window: manual settings on the left, presets on the right. The standard preset includes all possible “effects”, the vanilla preset disables all settings, and the ‘Low’ preset disables the most resource-intensive “effects”, while leaving the visuals acceptable.

UI update
