Patron Q+A #17 - now up on YouTube

Hey Ipsters,

I had a lot of fun doing this one live, though apparently I should have communicated it better to you all. If you are up for a second one to do this as a stream, I would do it again. It is just a bit more natural.

Premiere today: Eko Computerhythm

Hey Ipsters,

Today I will sit down with one of the rarest instruments out there, the Eko Computerhythm. Created in 1972, this is the first modern drum machine, with 16 step programming, individual outs and memory (with punch cards).

Enjoy!

New Album Out Today: Home Stories

Dear Ipsters,

Today my new album „Home Stories“ is put, my fourth on Seil Records. It is record exploring transformation, using re-synthesis to take the known and turn it into something that trancends it.

I hope to make a video on that process, if I can find the tiny hard disc with all the footage of how I made it.

For now, enjoy the record!

Premiere this Monday: The Forgotten Synths of Marche Region

Hey Ipsters,

This video was a massive undertaking and important to me, so I took a lot of care editing it to bring across the story of the synths of Marche region as best as I can.

Watch the premiere with me this Monday, and of course there will be a special sound pack and music from this for you.

Home Stories - Official Music Video

Here is the video made by nearest neighbors Julian & Felix Moser:

"The title track and single of Homes Stories is accompanied by a cinematic video made by long time Hainbach collaborators Felix & Julian Moser.

It makes the album theme of transformation its visual motif - by investigating on energy transition and the nuclear phase-out. Portraying a landscape shaped by energy and environmental policies, forestry, agriculture and mining.

New Single Out Today

Hey Everybody!

Here is the first single of my new album on Seil Records - Home Stories. It is available to stream everywhere now.

The album itself will be out on vinyl/tape/digital on the 24th of August, via Seil Records Bandcamp and a bunch of IRL stores. Available for streaming two weeks later.

I made this track in the Black Forest, transforming my mother’s piano into a shimmering pad using re-synthesis. The whole album is a reflection on how the ...

Hauntology Techno With a Soviet Wire Recorder

I have been wanting to release this track for a long time, but somehow held of. Feels good to have it out!

"I realize I am obsessed with the tone of old recording equipment such as tape and wire recorders, because it adds a feeling of "realness": instruments or voices sound like news broadcasts, interrogation room recordings or nature documentaries. It is like moving things into a past they never had, creating something new in the process. The MN61 wire recorder adds that sound to the m...

Premiere: How to make music with a Nuclear Instrumentation Modular | SRS BOXCAR AVERAGER

Hey Ipsters,

I put on a night shift and finished this video early. It is about one of my most favorite tools in the whole world of test equipment, but also the oddest one: the SRS Boxcar Averagers.

Soundpack/music coming too. See you at the Premiere!

Can you power a tape Machine with USB?

Yes, you can! I personally can’t wait to replace my bulky Nagra supply or the dozens of batteries with a USB bank once the Myvolts Kickstarter is done. It performs perfectly with the Uher, Nagra should be no problem then, as that is also exceptional at regulating its power.

Enjoy the video!

My video on the new library with Spitfire Audio

This was so weird to film at first, because Spitfire did a great job with their videos. I decided to tackle this from a different approach: what can you do with it? So I made music across a few genres and used it in two scoring projects I am involved in right now. Then I put in music by some fantastic artist friends in the video, which honestly is my favorite part of this, together with the interview I had with Leo, the developer.

Enjoy!

New album out today / listening party

Dear ipsters,

Today my second album of 2021 is out, Landfill Totems. This brooding collection of tracks was recorded on three statues of test equipment at Patch Point last year. After each track I sat down and recorded variation upon variation from each instrument, sometimes while they died under my hands. This resulted in an accompanying library instrument produced by Spitfire Audio.

You can order the Album and Instrument as a bundle and get a free cassette on top here:

Adding test equipment to a Synthesizer setup

Dear Ipsters,

New video today that I hope you will enjoy and maybe have time to watch with me:

“In which I do the thing I had forbidden myself both for technical and artistic reasons: using test equipment to control synths and let synths process test equipment. With the oftentimes wildly varying out levels of measurement instruments this is risky, but if you know what you are doing, it is a fun way to add just a touch of scientific-industrial sound to your setup. In this example...
