It’s a nice Thursday morning, I’ve had a great time responding to comments from my desk with a mug of cocoa listening to Oasis and I’m ready to start the real work. Replying to comments doesn’t feel like work which is good, but also bad because then its nearly 10 am and I haven’t got any work done… (In my mind).

When filming Oisinn and Anne... and err Barry, there is a way of directing it that gets the most out of Hog. You can't have it too tight, or Anne can't improvise. This is a character sketch, and as much as you've put hours into a script, you just have to leave room for new lines, that come in the moment. Behind the Scenes Diary - Thurs 3rd June

Ever since 'Alcohol went to Therapy' a sketch about well, alcohol going to therapy, we learned a valuable lesson. Silly characters need silly costumes.  Would alcohol have been funnier in a giant beer costume? Almost certainly, especially delivering more serious or deadpan lines - contrast principle and all that.  But just as importantly, it visually explains the situation in an instant, "there's alcohol, he's on the couch, I understand what's going on, okay i'll watch."

Set Tutorial - How to Make a Super Believable Psychiatrist Office

One man and his set. The Simpsons said it best, in order to make a horse look like a horse on film you need to string a bunch of cats together. A psychiatrists office is no different to a horse. There maybe more of these depending on how boring or complicated the sets are in future... This one was quite boring but someone has to do it you see cats won't string themselves together.

Foil loves a good design job. He disappears into his world, silent for hours, save for the occasion click, click, click. His head turns from left to right "to see the colours differently", but otherwise his face doesn't change, a poker face of concentration. Set Photos - This Thurs Sketch 20/5

So we're experimenting... again. Is it really 'something different' now if we do it every week? I'm not sure. The script is something we could have done before, but the way we tried to film it is hopefully not... We're going for something a lot more cinematic, think 'Alien'. 

The silver lining to not going on tour is having extra time to research filming and editing techniques and we want this one to look like a movie, albeit one with a very limited budget!

This was a tricky sketch to write, but a very fun one to film. For the second week running, we're doing something different. Fueled from a place of anger and disbelief, we wrote a sketch that deals with a frustrating issue in Ireland, hoping to lampoon the peoples involved - the goal is still to make people laugh!  Usually, with a serious issue, we'd subvert the idea, using surrealism, take it to a different realm, or use exaggeration or silliness to disguise the message, so as not to be...

"Does anyone have a script?..."

Its Thursday at noon, and we're filming on Friday. Usually we'd have a big backlog of scripts, some we're keeping, others needing re-drafts and many (oh so many )that have been rejected out of hand in previous months, but start to look a lot more attractive as the pool of options diminishes. 

Today, however, we're looking for something new and there is a script! Oh to be thankful for my hard drive, and my NEVER delete anything policy...

Hats off to the set designers - cant say i had much input! here they are in all their glory. I wont tell you too much about the sketch, but it had a nice amount of costumes and make-up. I'll bet some of you have an idea though... Not sure the lads trust me to do their make-up, they insisted on each other or themselves... Lots of fun on this shoot, even if it did run a little late - we know a shoot is running late if we can hear the squeak of the cleaners hoover coming through the m...
