I hate to spoil this at all, though it was already shown on Twitter. I’m planning to show it off more tomorrow in hopes of drumming up more sales for the book. As most people know, I like drawing robots, so this was a blast to come up with.

I’m starting a new thing here. I’ll try to daily (or semi daily depending on how busy I am) to post up 2 sketch underdrawings a day featuring the Sonic characters.
These drawings willl show my initial process for drawing. When doing comics, I start with a loose drawing like this, then I refine it, and finally go to inks.
My intention is that fans or young people who want to practice drawing Sonic and friends will use these. Print them out or put them on a layer in your prefe...

Here are the two main ideas I had for my variant cover for Jughead Time Police #1. I really liked the first one with all the different time periods, but they asked me to do the second one. It’s more straightforward and certainly was easier so I guess I can’t complain. Still fun to get to do something different from my usual sonic art, and I was grateful for the opportunity.

Here again, we see the power of digital and layers. I grabbed screenshots from a YouTube video of the title screen and a cutscene from Sonic Forces, then put those on a separate layer when I was doing the pencils. That way I had a clean background image to ink rather than having to work around all those characters. So, nowe have a clean background which I actually copied and pasted some parts of into page 20 of issue 14 which I recently finished.

And here are the inks. For both pencil and ink I use an app called Comic Draw. It does color as well but not as well as I’d like . For doing black and white comic pages it is simple and perfect as far as I’m concerned.
Comic Draw does ellipses, circles and straight lines for me, and spot blacks are filled with one tap. I enjoy using the Zipatone brushes and I sometimes use a chalk brush for stone texture. The one thing it doesn’t do well, or at all, is automatic curves wit a pen ...

Sorry I haven’t been posting this month. To make up for it I’m going to dump a bunch of pages at once today.
So, we’re starting on issue 9. The first sonic issue penciled and inked completely by myself on the iPad Pro. Here you’ll see immediately the great thing about working digitally. So, here’s a video of me doing pencils on the iPad for a Tangle art print I plan to have at conventions. I've been super super busy drawing Cosmo and Sonic, so I haven't posted much lately, but since the first 5 pages were previewed a while ago, I figured I'd show off the pencils for the first 5 pages. Maybe more in the future.

And here's one Nate and I worked up for Secret Squirrel. DC said they were already developing a book for Secret Squirrel. I've never looked to see if its ever come out, but I've also not heard any buzz about it, so I'd guess it never got off the ground. Totally would have if they'd have gone with our take on it!

Don't think I ever showed this off here before. This was a pitch idea I worked on with Nate Bowden some time ago when DC was doing a lot of revamped Hanna Barbera stuff. (Those books are still going I think)
Anyway, we did this "realistic" take on Quick Draw. Apparently he shows up in the Snagglepuss book, or so we were told, so they didn't want to pursue a dedicated book for QD. Too bad.
Oh, I stole that cloud effect in the background from Terry Austin.
