There are 4 different backing tracks in the video and I'm going to make them available in 4 separate posts.
This one is a simple G to A minor groove.

Hello all,
Today I'm continuing my occasional "Adrian Attempts" series with a look at reggae guitar. The basic premise of this series is that I'm going to be looking at artists or styles of music that are slightly outside my usual musical comfort zone.
But essentially this video is a beginner's guide to reggae guitar. It's a fascinating style of music to explore and hope this might inspire some of you to get into it a bit more deeply.
Tab can be found below; I think most of ...

Hello all,
This week I'm taking a look at one of my favourite alternate tunings: DADGAD. I first discovered this tuning through listening to Jimmy Page, way back when I first started playing guitar. It sounds beautiful, and is relatively easy to get started with since a lot of great sounding chords can be played with just one finger.
I've tabbed out most of the examples found in the video below. I've also written out the little piece I play right at the start of the video.&n...

Hello all,
Hope everyone's doing well. There was a great response to last week's Patreon-only video, so that's certainly something I'll start doing on a semi-regular basis. Next up will probably be some kind of Q&A session next month.
This week, I wanted to take a look at one of my favourite songs, a song often put forward as one of the greatest ever: Wichita Lineman, originally recorded by Glen Campbell. There are 3 parts to the video: I go through the basic chords for those ...

Hello all,
Something slightly different this week: a lo-fi, Patreon-only video, in which I give you a brief update on what I've been up to lately as well as a little tour of my studio setup. Hope some of you find it interesting.
The main tutorial videos will of course still be the main focus of what I do, but I thought it might be nice do the odd more spontaneous and relaxed video like this one. Let me know your thoughts about this, and I can try and make it a semi-regular t...
2023-02-17 14:27:43 +0000 UTC View PostThis week, a tune from one of my favourite songwriters, Syd Barrett. I set to do a simple acoustic strumming kind of lesson, but got a bit carried away and ended up doing a full version with extra electric parts on top.
Here's the link -
The acoustic parts are pretty easy if you know your major barre chord shapes. For more of a challenge you can try improvising...
2023-02-10 20:11:29 +0000 UTC View PostHello all,
I wanted to keep it simple and - I hope- fun this week with a look at another track from one of my favourite records ever: Raw Power by Iggy and The Stooges. Here's the link to the video -
Nothing fancy here, just some incredible riffs and wild soloing from the great James Williamson. I've tabbed out the 3 basic riffs and made a few soloing suggestions. (D...
2023-02-03 18:14:32 +0000 UTC View PostHere's the backing. It's really just a 12 bar in G that goes round and round, but there's a 4 bar intro on G before the 12 bar cycle starts. Use it to practice the main theme, T-Bone's solos, or just have some fun doing your own thing.
2023-01-27 17:54:18 +0000 UTC View PostHi everyone. This week, a must-know blues track from the hugely influential T-Bone Walker. It's full of great bluesy and jazzy-bluesy vocabulary, and I particularly like his rhythm and phrasing during the solo.
Here's the link to the video:

Hope you enjoy working on it.

2023-01-27 17:53:33 +0000 UTC View PostHi all,
Some country guitar this week! I've put together a short solo that contains many of my favourite country licks and devices. There's lots to get stuck into here: melodic double stops, hybrid picking, mixing minor and major sounds, steel bending, outlining the chord changes...
As I say in the video, this is not just for country players; the things you learn from this style can be fairly universally applied to any musical situation.
Here's the link -
And here's a version of the backing with no guitars at all, in case you want to play it with another guitarist, or work on the rhythm parts.

2023-01-13 17:01:03 +0000 UTC View PostHello all,
I wanted to do a surf tune this week - it's been a while. This is a fabulous early 60s track from Colorado band The Astronauts, which I recently discovered was written by the great Lee Hazlewood.
There's a great palm-muted main theme, some tremolo picking, and a lovely melodic bridge section.

2023-01-13 17:00:34 +0000 UTC View PostThis version of the backing omits the rhythm guitar part. So use this if you're working on the Ocasek part.
2023-01-06 16:38:22 +0000 UTC View PostThis version of the backing contains none of the lead parts, so use it if you're working on any of the Elliot Easton parts. Maybe try and play it as EE does live, combing the various parts you hear on the studio recording.
2023-01-06 16:37:57 +0000 UTC View PostI'm going to upload 3 versions of the backing, and you can use the one that fits best with what you're working on. This one has no guitars at all. Use it if you're playing the song with another guitar player and just need a simple backing, or if you want to record all the parts on top yourself.
2023-01-06 16:37:36 +0000 UTC View PostHello everyone. This week, an in-depth look at a proper classic. This one is so epic in terms of the guitar parts that I've given it the full 2-part treatment. In the first video I look at all the rhythm parts and fills:
Then, in part 2 I look at Elliot Easton's awesome guitar solo:

2023-01-01 13:11:38 +0000 UTC View PostHello all!
Hope everyone's doing well. I just wanted to let you know that this week's video will be launched on Sunday. It's a New Year-themed video, with ideas about what to practice in 2023, so I thought it made sense to put it out on New Year's Day rather than the usual Friday.
Speak Sunday,

And this year I decided to try putting together a solo guitar version of one of my favourite Xmas songs, from one of my favourite Christmas records: the Low Christmas album. I realise there's not been much acoustic stuff lately, so I thought I'd fix that by looking at a beautiful fingerstyle track from one of my favourite singer-songwriters, Townes Van Zandt. Here's the link -

2022-12-02 18:19:30 +0000 UTC View PostHere's a quick backing I made to play over at the start of this week's video. Key of E, with a descending Portishead-y kind of bass line. Anything in E minor will work well over this, particularly E minor pentatonic and E blues stuff. Have fun!
